pete 318 Posted July 30, 2016 Looks like we need serious reinforcement at both ends of the pitch hope we can get in some useful loanees. However our recent record hasn''t been good Jarvis, Bamford, Elmander etc. etc.Expect PL clubs to have surplus players not available until squads finalised as one of the supposedly better Championship clubs could we benefit? As regards foreign loanees don''t expect our scouts to have identified any possibilities.
If wed only kept Howie.. 3 Posted July 30, 2016 rather than ask which players we could bring in on loan, or maybe whether permanent transfers are more effective, or who should play the wages of loan players, or a thousand more interesting points - instead you use this as an excuse to have a pop at the club you pretend to support.F Y

Move Klose 303 Posted July 30, 2016 And. Just because theres no emergency loans doesnt mean you can''t loan anyone. Just means you can only do it inside transfer windows.

militantcanary 0 Posted July 31, 2016 Sadly he has a point about our scouts as they appear to be completely useless in the foreign marketThere must be better value that McCormack for 12m out there surely??Wilson Man U?Joel Campbell Arsenal?
lake district canary 4,531 Posted July 31, 2016 Said it on another thread, but two good strikers for us would be Bamford and Ricky Lambert, either on loan or permanent signings.
Michael Bates 9 Posted July 31, 2016 Fraizer Campbell would be a good shout if we could keep him fit. Very different option to what we currently have and knows where the net is at this level.

We are talking about the championship where he is absolutely proven. After all we have Jerome who was prolific enough in the championship yet struggled in the premier league and who we will need to score more heavily in the championship again. You can''t knock experience and at 34 he is not that old if he is fit enough. Teddy Sheringham and Kevin Phillips for example. We need to buy/loan success and a year''s loan or purchase of Rickie Lambert to me would be a no brainer and far better than risking £10-12m for someone like McCormack. kick it off 1,948 Posted July 31, 2016 and that LDC, is why most of your posts are not taken seriously! Jerome is 5 years younger than Lambert. Lambert scored a goal every 411 minutes played for Liverpool. He scored 1 in 951 minutes for WBA. Admittedly, that''s not a lot of football (which brings up another point entirely), but it''s not a lot of goals either. You think a 34 year old (who never played at a level as high as the Championship til he was McC''s current age), who has played the equivalent of 24 full games in 2 years and scored slightly better than bugger all, is a better option than McCormack, who is 5 years younger and proven in the division, and has been banging them in for fun for years in poor teams?McCormack is overpriced, but at the end of the day, he''s worth whatever someone is willing to pay for him. To say Rickie Lambert is a better option is just silly though.

Give him a run of games like he had at Southampton - which he hasn''t had at WBA or Liverpool - and you would likely see him back to his prolific best. If you are going to ridicule the suggestion, then you would presumably ridicule Jerome''s chances this season, as he only scored three last year.

kick it off 1,948 Posted July 31, 2016 But Holt got a run of games aged 34 in the Champs - why wasn''t he back to his prolific best? Lambert is reportedly on 43k per week at West Brom so after dumping our high earners who couldn''t score, we''d be adding another one.Jerome scored 18 in the Champs the season before and IS FIVE YEARS YOUNGER. Lambert has barely kicked a ball for 2 years now. Not the most logical comparison to make.Lambert''s "prolific best" came largely at league 1 level and below. He had one good season in the Champs (5 years ago) and 2 fairly decent years in the Prem. Since then he has had 2 years of not playing much football and getting older. To put this another way, last season he had a worse record than RvW did in La Liga (which is comparable to the Prem). Ricky scored one in 617 mins and Lambert scored 1 in 618 mins.Regardless of all other comparisons, the point was that you said you would rather have him than McCormack. Which is absolutely ludicrous. Which is absolutely ludicrous.[/quote]My main complaint about McCormack is the over priced and record championship amount required to buy him, not necessarily his ability - and the point is that Lambert would cost next to nothing up front as a loan deal or indeed to purchase outright - and he would score goals. Also, the money saved on paying an extortionate amount for McCormack would enable money to be spent on an up and coming player more like a Callum Wilson type, or dare I say, Grabban type player, which is what the manager seems to prefer.
