new season upon us and we have jerome & lafferty

@The Canary Fan

That is a hell of gamble all things considered. We have 5 matches before the end of this window. What happens if Jerome goes down injured 15 minutes into the Blackburn game? Or he loses his rag with an opposition defender and does something to get sent off and suspended for 3 games? We''re then left with Lafferty and Morris while we battle to get reinforcements over the line.

It''s not an ideal and my patience is wearing thin with the whole situation.

However

We are in the market for the top players in this division. Those transfers will take longer. We could go out tomorrow and sign 3 or 4 no doubt if we wanted but they won''t improve us.

We''re all going to have to sit tight
Jerome deserves the benefit of the doubt. yes it''s a concern our only other striker is Lafferty but Jerome came down last time after only scoring 2 goals and playing a lot of games for Palace and scored 20 with us, inc a vital and well taken goal in the play off final.

He scored 3 (4 really) last time in the PL for us while sharing time with Mbokani, there''s no evidence he''s worsened as a player so he should have a good year again.

Even we wouldn''t go into this season with just those two, but Jerome is more than capeable of holding down the fort till more signings arrive and to be honest at about 20 of the other Championship clubs, he''d be the main striker anyway.

Panic if we haven''t got anyone in with a week to go before the window closes. As it is now it''s just a concern if Jerome gets injured
Yes he did but we also had other players like Johnson, hooper and grabban weighing in with goals

Can''t see at this moment one of our midfield replacing johnsons goals. We desperately need another top striker or we''ve no chance

@Mickdundee

Yes that is a problem that doesn''t seem to be mentioned much. People mention us having basically the same squad as last time we went up but Johnson, Hooper and Grabban accounted for about 40 goals that season. Will Naismith, Canos and co cover for that deficit?

So what is your solution? Bring players in whatever the cost?

Not at all. The three players I mentioned earlier all moved for nothing or a small fee (obviously wages fro Fletcher were bigger). I would have worked harder to secure someone (loanee, free transfer etc) earlier in the window so we had greater depth, allowing us to chase our number one target (McCormack, Assonbalonga etc) to the end of the window without leaving our squad short.

Other teams have managed this. The fact we can''t is a worry.

I think sometimes people forget that Brad Johnson only scored 6 goals in 3 years for us before that season in the Championship. I certainly would not have picked him out as a midfield goalscoring maestro.

Howson might start controlling games with his obvious talent. Wes might take his Euro successes and turn them into goals. Josh Murphy could channel his inner Huckerby. Hell, Lafferty might even score a few.

You never know who will pop up.
