Would relegation be so bad?

Recommended Posts

Provided we return to the PL in the next two seasons, is it naive to suggest that relegation this season is not necessarily a bad thing?

We get to:

trim the squad

Bring young players through

Sign new players within our wage structure

Play more games

Win more games

Benefit from parachute payments

Possibly another Wembley outing

Win a title, or promotion

What''s not to like?

Get McCormack from Fulham, maybe even Bamford, and I''d be excited about an immediate return to the Prem!

In the last twelve seasons we''ve been promoted three times and relegated four, guess we''re going to have to get used to a roller coaster ride each year. Never a dull moment.

It''s the way things are for us under the leadership that we currently have. It''s not the end of the world.

Ask the back room staff who are likely to lose their jobs just as they did last time round (numbering several) because of the drop in income!!
Would we want Bamford on loan or permanent? Considering his impact so far in the premier league
I think Bamford would see going back to a Championship club, after playing (hmmm) at Premiership level this season, as a step backwards. But based on what I have seen so far, no thanks.

Looking at it from a selfish point of view.......We get to play the Scum.New ground at Burton to visit.4 more home games.More 3pm Saturday kick offs.No more waiting up late on a Saturday night for MOTD.Not having to listen to misery guts Lawrenson anymore.Yeah i''m kind of warming to the idea.

I''d take Bamford next season, he bottled the Palace game and that''s a black mark against him which may well be enough of a minus for AN to lose interest in him.

But he did play well last season in the Championship and would probably do it again.

No, it wouldn''t be so bad. In fact, personally, I''ll probably enjoy a season in the Championship more. Certainly enjoyed last season more!

But, actually getting relegated, hurts all the same.

Rather big caveat in the opening line of your post though Borekins.

Being a yo-yo club is not a bad thing - becoming a Wolves/Leeds etc. clearly is. That said, the fact that our board does not (cannot?!) take stupid financial risks like others around our position makes it more likely we will yo-yo rather than sink like Ipswich.

Hang on, I thought that we all realised a) full houses only make up a tiny amount of income at this level, and b) all staff have bonuses if we are in the Prem?

Or are you truly suggesting that the board don''t want the club to be as successful as possible?
Don''t think the board would be too bothered ,near full house guaranteed at home matches whatever league we are in.
Of course they would be bothered. They want the best for Norwich City, the same as the fans do.

Relegation would render last seasons gruelling 46 game campaign, the highs and lows, the win at Wembley, all completely pointless. A bit like this thread and many of its responses.

Well, it wouldn''t, because financial benefits plus player signings plus "time moves forwards" etc etc.
Still, at least you are consistent.

income!!"The effect on individual staff members is one thing, the broader implications for the club''s infrastructure are another. A lot has been made of the failure to recruit well in the summer, and questions have been raised about our scouting network; then there are the outdated facilities at Colney which we are told have already impacted on player recruitment. If our strategy in the event of relegation is the same as last time, i.e. we aim to retain our best players to give us the best chance of coming straight back up, then big savings have to made elsewhere and any progress made this year in improving the football infrastructure will at best be halted or, more likely, reversed. It''s in these areas that the real damage is sustained when dropping down to the Championship.

Although your PO is meant to be a dig on the pant wetters, I don''t think relegation is much of a disaster.

We do indeed get to offload some of the deadwood, we will lose two or more players I''m sure we want to keep, but we did buy some potentially very good youngsters who could well make a big impact in the championship.

We will win a fair few games and going for promotion is always more exciting than battling relegation.

Plus we still get the giant screen in front of the hotel.......superb.

BHS will go into administration this week, threatening 11,000 jobs.
If a few NCFC backroom staff are released, there will be new ones to take their places.  Restructuring is common in the modern Service Industry economy.
Nobody is going to die.

Well lets face it we are pretty used to it and as a club we are still solvent and packing out the ground. What goes up comes down and vice versa. I am confident we will have a good season next one if we go down

No, it wouldn''t be too bad. We''ve been down numerous times recently and yet we have still have 4 Premiership seasons out of the past five years.

If we are not going to bring in a foreign billionaire then what we have had over the last six years is as as good as it''s going to get. And that''s not a criticism.

Agree with you there KB. Perhaps the redundancies could start with the CEO and downwards. I wouldn''t have a problem with that. Take out the biggest staff earners first and restructure. Perfect.

Can''t believe some of the posts in this thread but it seems that are at last getting to the crux of the situation with many "supporters" who just want an easy life. These so called fans are obviously not at all concerned, or excited, about seeing our Club perform in the best league in the World, couldn''t care less about seeing our team up against some of the best players in the World and are not all that bothered with the challenges that all that brings. They would much rather that NCFC operates in a league that fits more comfortably with their particular life style - more games, more wins, 3pm Saturday kick offs, more home games and playing inferior teams like the Scum.Time they realized that being a football supporter is about seeing your team doing the very best it can, to it''s best ability at the highest level possible & not glory hunting more trophies in inferior leagues against inferior opposition. If that''s what it''s all about why don''t we go straight down to League 2 and be done with it.
