Missing Chances Again

People were rolling around laughing when Jerome put that volley over the bar from six yards out. Gallows humour and all that.  He really is that bad in front of goal.

Jerome is an excellent workhorse but needs to be part of a striking pair. At Pl level he never hits double figures and this season will not trouble half a dozen. Burt everyone knew that so why the surprise and why keep playing him on his own. Championship level is different he gets more time and opportunities

Jerome gets into positions yet simply cant even hit the target; yet his team play was excellent

Mbokani - probably a better finisher but simply doesnt get in a position to have a chance - let alone miss or god forbid score. Winning a header or a free kick isnt enough of a team contribution.

Bamford - unknown and the only remaining option; yet the manager doesnt think he can play the sole striker.

Thats the issue - and given that as the very limited choice and we have to carry on with a sole striker it has to be jerome again.

And while we missed chances again the level of defending was once again only good enough for 80 mins - the other 15 mins each game is what will get us relegated - not the missed chances.

I would be loathe to freeze Lafferty out on the basis that:

a) It seems increasingly likely we will be relegated;

b) In that event, Bamford & Mbokani will almost certainly not be with us next season.

Would leave us in a far from ideal position in the summer if Jerome was our only striker, leaving us needing to recruit another 2/3? Makes the decision to sell Hooper even more galling.
