McClaren to stay for now...

Recommended Posts

Quite amazing he''s not been sacked. If he stays until the end of the season it''s between us and Sunderland for 17th place. And to all the Alex Neil outers and those whinging about being little old Norwich. Yes we are little old Norwich, always have been always will be, get over it. If we go down then life in the Championship will be fun and if we stay up we''ll have a bit more money that we''ll struggle to spend on players because for some reason they''d rather live in London than our fine county. Nuts!

Newcastle don''t appear to have faith in McClaren - he''ll be gone by the end of the season in some capacity.

Sunderland seem content with what they''ve got, they''ve played reasonably well in recent games to give them some credit and have now engineered themselves a good chance of staying up when a while back that didn''t look likely.

As for us, well, it''s hard to see who better than AN to have in charge. A lot of the time he''s been tactically spot on but we''ve been let down by individual errors on the pitch rather than by AN. I think everyone accepts we were always going to be in or around a relegation fight and at this stage we''ve got a good chance of staying up with a 3 way fight for survival. The important thing is the players are still playing for him, and fighting for him. As long as that is the case I see no reason to ship him out. He did an incredible job last year.

I think if Newcastle had got their act together that they would be out of it. But like when Blackburn had Steve Jean for so long, those troubles kept a team in a relegation place.

So it would be a two horse race and Sunderland do have an easier schedule.

AN has done a very good job, his run in the premiership when looking at results and some tactical decisions are worthy of a team in a relegation place.

We have a chance to stay up and I just think it is sad that as fans we have been used to our team in this position that many doubters had reason to voice concerns in January. Crazy that it is but we saw similar traits to our relegation season and also how we limped over the line with Lambert and hughton. Often when it came down to the final few games.

If he is in charge of Newcastle at Carrow road I will be surprised, if we beat them and he remains in charge I will be even more surprised.

The key for us now though is that we have to put in performances for wins in every game and not think one win is going to breed confidence, we need those rare back to back wins ASAP.

Spot on AJ there is simply no one out there that could do a better job than AN

You look at the championship managers and there is nobody. Paul Lambert has been particularly disappointing at Blackburn as an example

Any manager from abroad is a huge gamble just look at Villa!

Hold our nerve and we will be fine

Him staying is vital to our survival imo. I think Newcastle have quite a strong squad, someone like Benitez will almost certainly get them out of trouble

As i posted on another thread

Newcastle would have a proven top manager

cup specialist Newcastle have 10 cup finals now

heard a fact on talk sport today 80 % new managers win in their first game ( FACT )

also the bottom 4 have won a average of less than a point a game so its not going to take many more wins to stay up

i imagine we will be the ones in the championship as we sit and do nothing

I suspect the new manager bounce is always likely to be somewhat less high if, after scouring Europe, you happen to find the best candidate is already coaching in the academy of your club. Perhaps, we should condition the statement with a new ''experienced'' manager bounce.

Newcastle wont matter to us new manager bounce or not , Norwich will finish below both Newcastle and Sunderland . Borbinner asks who we should get in , well i would hazzard a guess just about anybody would do a better job than Neil at the moment  , in fact you would be hard pressed to find anybody who could do worse than 1 point in 27 soon to be 33 .

As expected, he''s been sacked. Got to say though, the way that this has been played out in the media this week is pre5ty poor from Newcastle! Very disrespectful.

Now McClaren is available the Board must act quickly to secure him before someone else snaps him up. Just the experience we need in a relegation battle. We don''t want to make the same mistake again we did missing out on Neil Warnock do we?

We have to hope that the Newcastle players are so demoralised that Rafa won''t be able to turn it around quickly enough. Unfortunately I think he''s a good enough manager to save them.

If Rafa takes that job he is an idiot, even Shearer admits it''s a car crash of a club.
