Funny old game 0 Posted April 3, 2016 How many on here remember the 3-2 win over Newcastle 40 years ago in October 1976. 3-0 up at half time with two from Martin Peters and a third from Viv Busby. They got 2 back but we held on. A nice symmetry with yesterday. IMO Martin Peters the best player ever in a yellow shirt. Just googled the crowd and only 21000 there when only the main stand was seated, so better now. Maybe the three day week had a bearing!On Newcastle and Sunderland forums this morning much clutching at straws about games in hand. However by the end of April we will have played the same number of games as Newcastle and one less than Newcastle, due to movement of Watford match. In October of that season we were bottom of the table but beat both Newcastle and Leicester in the same week by the same scoreline (3-2) to climb of trouble. Was it Leicester or Birmingham ?
