CITY have moved swiftly to deny claims from Portsmouth that the Canaries have quoted a £2.5m price tag for England ''keeper Robert Green.

Pompey Chairman Milan Mandaric allegedly told BBC Radio Solent today: "We were trying to see if Green would be available and for what money. We asked Norwich for information and they told us they would sell him for £2.5m and that''s about all we know."

But City Chief Executive Neil Doncaster told First News: "We have seen quotes attributed to Milan Mandaric, the Portsmouth Chairman, apparently suggesting that we have told Portsmouth that we would sell Robert Green for £2.5m.

"This is totally inaccurate. We have had no contact with Portsmouth whatsoever about Robert Green.

"We have spoken to Portsmouth expressing our anger and disappointment about their claims, which are wholly without foundation."
