We have missed out on some quailty freebies & Greeno

Recommended Posts

After not entering the race to sign FBTM (Former Binner Tommy Miller) we seem to have missed out on signing Steve Stone.   Both were available on frees and would have added steel to our midfield department.  Although Stone is ageing he still has the speed, tenacity and presence of mind to be a superb addition to any fizzy league side (hence Leeds acquiring his services as well as Lee Clark who would also have been a free transfer)

Although inevitiable that Tommy Miller would return to his North East roots, I was disappointed that we didnt make an attempt to acquire his services.  He would have been a 15 goal a season ''no prisoners'' midfielder  and an ideal replacement for Francis. Miller also specialises at set pieces (something we lack and have lacked for several seasons)

I do hope Green will stay as I do not think Seagull Sven will look past Robinson and James for next years world cup. Another championship winning year at FCR and an improved season back in the Prem would propell him into England reckoning for Euro 2008.  He is garuanteed a starting place at Carrow Road and would do his England chances more harm if he was warming a Premiership bench.

Any of the egos who think the grass is greener elsewhere (Francis, Helveg) please close the door on your way out.  If you are going to stay isnt it about time you spoke out publicly against your agent and commit yourslves to the cause.  If you dont want to be here make sure you give Nigel worthington enough time to get people in who would love to be here.     Dean AShton has been decent enough to say he is going nowhere and has set peoples minds at rest.

Thats it, Im spent.  I dont normally post that often but when I do I get all my thoughts out.

CHAMPIONES 2004 & 200?

Sometimes we just have to be realistic.   The likes of Jagielka, Gabbidon and Miller are all going to attract (and are attracting) prem clubs and we can not compete with them inthe fizzy pop - the same as deano if we hadnt signed him at Xmas we would have no chance now.

Cardiff are looking for £3m for Gabbidon which is well above our budget and Jagielka is worth more than that as he is a far better player IMO (or is that type of blog speak censored too???)  Miller is a player I would have liked to see in yellow but with charlton and sunderland interested why bother wasting our time?

As far as Steve stone is concerned the time to sign him was 3 seasons ago when he joined Pompey as a Div 1 team - now he is too old and inconsistent to be worth signing; we need to invest in some youthful potential unless the older hands can add significantly to what we already have - I am not sure that Stone fits that bill any more.

Bring on the season and a positive attitude and we will have a season to enjoy!

I agree Miller would have been a good signing but i could''nt warm to Binner however good they are. I do disagree with the other two you mention I think we need to build a team to compete in the Prem and should''nt be looking at short term fixes. I would always prefer a Dean Ashton type to an expierienced player like Helveg who are on the last lap in terms of there career

Good post Steve.  However, we don''t know we didn''t try and get Miller.  There were rumours that we did but he didn''t want to come because of the rivalry.  I can''t complain about that.  Also, we can''t compete with Premiership football.  I wouldn''t say we ''missed out'' on Miller because I don''t think we had much of a chance in the first place.

Stone I wouldn''t have minded though.  I know Pompey fans were disappointed he didn''t get another contract.  I think he''d have done well with us for a year.  However, I don''t think he''s Worthy''s type of player.  Worthy''s looking to the future and I don''t think he wants Prem rejects
