Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted February 6, 2016 The Wembley win brought with it an unrealistic euphoria. A young honest and talented manager who was and is incredibly inexperienced by anyones standards supported by a backroom staff of unknown journeymen had managed to get one of the strongest squads in the championship promoted. In the main it was the bulk of the squad that had got relegated the season before. The defence was not great then, was not great in the championship and has continued to leak goals. The board for whatever reason did not invest in the summer when most honest observers knew we were not strong enough, but many who had bought into the AN is the next Alex Ferguson. We started with confidence and gusto, won some good points but early bad luck, poor officials and individual errors saw 4 or 5 points run away from us that at that stage we deserved. We hit the rails at Newcastle which shattered the team and management and made us go into a Hughton type negative style which we had been promised would never happen again. The managerial inexperience kicked in constant team tinkering, favoritism to certain players eg Martin and confusing reluctance to keep with others such as Bennett. Good club assets who such as Johnson and Hooper were moved on and expensive signings brought in some may be good some may not. It was too little too late and things started getting terribly worse during and after the Stoke game and show no signs of getting better at a time when many of the other bottom feeders have an upturn in fortune, confidence and results. Many of us are both disappointed and frustrated but not really surprised. 13 games left to get at least 15 points. In theory it may happen but in reality the chances are slim and we are probably battling for which position we finish in the bottom 3 . Then next season will be on us which players leave who will be in charge and probably come next January we will be in the same position as when AN arrived, a financially stable club with some good players but everything not quite firing right Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
