Lessingham Canary 99 Posted February 4, 2016 Spare a thought for poor old Gary Neville, the most refreshing of TV pundits in recent years, seemed to talk sense, not afraid to criticise players, managers, systems etc....... then the England Coach leaves a nice number at SKY to become a manager in Spain ! so 8 games no wins and a 7 nil drubbing last night at Barcelona, will he get the sack ? will he get taken seriously as a pundit ever again ? should he have taken a lesser job for his first managers position ?So many questions, so much embarrassment, where / what next for Mr Neville ? thoughts...... Hank shoots Skyler 2,094 Posted February 4, 2016 I do feel a bit sorry for him. Must''ve taken a lot of bottle to step up and give it a try, could easily have stayed safe on Sky as probably the most popular pundit on there.Reading countless comments across the internet about him losing his credibility entirely as a pundit now. But why? Because criticism is only worthy if you can do better than the accused? If that were true then no one would be allowed to criticise anyone and forums would surely die out. The analysis that he gave on matches and managers was always spot on, regardless of whether or not he could actually apply himself to a football team without the aid of smart TVs and more importantly - hindsight. Would a scout lose credibility if he tried his hand at being a footballer and failed? The above being said...it is still a very very strange appointment. Phil Neville or not. Just imagine some Spanish pundit coming here and taking over Everton out of nowhere!

GJP 79 Posted February 4, 2016 Not that strange when you consider the bloke who owns Valencia has a 50% stake in Salford City.
Katie Borkins 1 Posted February 5, 2016 Goes to show that you can understand "the game" all you like, but if you can''t motivate and inspire a team then all the theory in the world won''t help you. Imagine listening to his droning team talks. He will be back on Sky telling other managers how to do it by April. Perhaps Jaemae and Grefstad could join him to make the ultimate panel. Yellowbeagle 0 Posted February 5, 2016 I never really understood why he would go to a foreign country where it must be hard to get his undoubted tactical ideas across. He doesn''t come acoss as having the charisma of a Venables or a Robson to make it work at a big club in Spain.
wcorkcanary 4,314 Posted February 5, 2016 For sure, and there''s a massive difference between being able to see and analyse what''s happening on a pitch, and being able to control and correct what is happening on that pitch.....in the moment.
It's Character Forming 1,156 Posted February 5, 2016 Spot on. I think football management is, first and foremost, a personality thing. You can have an outstanding understanding of the game and still be awful at management. Of course, the top managers are good at both. But they don''t necessarily go together.
