James Maddison

Recommended Posts

"Godfrey, Adams, Mcgrandles, Thompson, Maddison."

That''s impressive forward planning as each and every one has arrived with rave reviews.

Add to these Toffolo, the Murphys and Loza etc. and oh for a reserve (Combination) league. Such would be far more beneficial to the Club and the players than loaning them out constantly to various lower league outposts.

I always used to go to all reserve games and often the crowds were decent too. A much, much better route to the first team for youngsters, imo. Good for bringing senior players backs to fitness after injury as well.
Delighted to see what looks like a coherent long term strategy in our transfer dealings for the first time in ages. even if the worst happens and we do go down you''d have to think at least one or two of these youngsters will be ready to step in and replace the likes of Redmond next year in the championship.

Looking at the videos his style is really, really reminiscent of Wes so perhaps he is the Wes replacement that so many have craved for a couple of years now. What''s more exciting is we will hopefully have him playing alongside Wes and Naismith for a period of time.

Godfrey, Adams, Mcgrandles, Thompson, Maddison. If even a couple of them come good then we will be in a very good position.
No one wants Redmond, so he won''t have to be replaced.

The Coventry lot are as deluded as the lot down the road. They cant believe that he has signed for us for £2m when Spurs offered £7m. The usual why would he sign for a club playing in the Champ next season, prob with us spiel.

He werent that good anyway

Though did have to laugh as some believe the £2m to be utter tosh and that it is closer to the £7m as to not to alert other teams of how much money they really received. Oh and Jacob must have been thrown in as part of the deal

Bearing in mind what players like Vardy, Austin, Gayle etc have achieved I''d say the signing of Ebou Adams or any other non league player is far from pointless. At the end of the day somebody has seen him play and seen something in him, very pleased that we are going to the effort to find these young lads.

Have some buddies who are Coventry season ticket holders and they all say Maddison is raw but extremely talented, so hats off to our club.

This is known as planning for the future... anyone not understanding this is clearly a bit thick..

As for James Maddison - he IS an amazingly good player already - fantastic vision and range of passing. Of all the signings this season he is the most impressive.

I think our tendency to send people back on loan to the club we got them from is a point in our favour on deals like this.

Since they player is in familiar surroundings its probably better for them.

It''s unrealistic to expect any player contemplating a move to us that they will not be looking at the table and wondering what the future holds. Just as I would if I moved job, I''d be pretty peed off if my new employer went bust or had to cut jobs. The fact that we have managed to attract some great talent this January is a credit to McNally, Neil and all involved in the club including the owners.

We must remember that our rivals have mostly spent big money too so this does not mean we are guaranteed survival. However it looks as though the club have given itself every chance and strengthened exactly where we needed it whilst at the same time created a great looking pipeline of talent. When you look at what is still to come through, including Toffolo etc from the youth team it is starting to look pretty exciting.

The AN master plan seems to be to hone that future talent elsewhere so it can be fed in more confidently rather than throwing in untried youngsters which held back Hughton from doing much of that. When these guys return there should be a pretty decent looking squad and the summer shake out will be very interesting.

i hate to break this to you.....but anyone in our position in the league at this stage of the season is a genuine relegation candidate, aswell as Coventry -his local team, having a decent chance of promotion ...this along with the fact that I''m assuming that this young lad from Coventry wouldnt know too much about our club shows that it is a plaudit that we could persuade him to join us, if it is indeed true that other ,bigger clubs have been sniffing around him.

If you''ve interpreted that as a "negative spin", that''s your look out.
Mid-Norfolk, I hope you don''t mind me interjecting a comment but....Morty has a point and it''s not just directed at you, there are others that somehow take what they think is a positive comment but flavour it strongly with a negative bias. Even in your own words, you cite the position Norwich are in and couple it with Coventry having a decent chance of promotion and we could be playing each other next season. Of course, what you stated is possible but now, let''s try and take the same two clubs and position the comment a little differently.....
Any young ambitious player weighing the merits of Norwich City and Coventry City would see that the two clubs are miles apart in their achievements over the past many seasons. Coventry City can only lick their lips in envy to be in the position that Norwich City is and the calibre of players they sign and teams Norwich City compete against. Coventry fans, on the other hand, had to try and content themselves with finishing in the lower half of the third level for the past three seasons. After a promising start this season they are now winless in five games, losing three in a row ( two of them at home ) and losing ground to the front runners. If a young man has a chance to improve his future it would not be a difficult choice to make for the preferred direction between these two clubs. An added bonus would be that he would have a chance to play in front of a virtually sold out stadium at Carrow Road every time out versus a club that is barely averaging crowds much better than 10,000 for home games during the past number of seasons.
There, now that wasn''t difficult, was it? You too are capable of looking at things in a similar manner.

No morty does not have a point.  GJL rightly stated certain facts and possibilities which morty turned into a little spat for no other reason than he wanted to.   GJL has said nothing negative in the least.  You have "interjected" with your own interpretation too - and that is your right - but your tone is disparaging and superior for no good reason.   Everything you say is obvious to all of us and we can all see why JM would choose us over Coventry - but he could have gone to a bigger club.  The point is that this lad has chosen us because he sees us as a good stepping stone - but it is still true that Coventry could make the play offs and get promoted to the championship, we could get relegated and the two clubs end up playing each other.  That is not negative, it is stating the reality of the situation.  You can put your point of view, but seeing something negative in posts and trying to justify your position by disparaging the poster''s imagined attitude is mis-interpreting for the sake of it.  Morty may well have been in a bad mood last night, that is the only explanation for his nasty little rant at GJL, but your attempt to support the imagined "negativity" is - in this case - wrong. There may be those that put a negative slant on this transfer - but the treatment GJL has received on this thread is out of order. Imo.

He looks an awful lot like Wes in how he plays, lots of twisting & turning with an eye for a pass. Looks like he has a bit of pace too!

This is a great video showing him progressing up youth team captain to first team regular during the course of the 2014/15 season.

Coventry must be very skint to sell him to us at near 11pm last night

he has played 24 league games what will he be worth are another 24 games ??

they got the money so late they couldn''t use it unless they use it for loans next week

they must of needed the 2mil unless you would wait till summer after he had a full season

I know they got him loaned back to them but I would be annoyed if I was them good for us because if he had played like he has with rave reviews he would cost a lot more than double in the summer

The last (I think, but will happily be corrected) young attacking midfielder we signed from Coventry City was Graham Paddon, back in 1969, for all of £25,000. Perhaps a happy omen.

I would imagine Coventry are struggling to pay Jacob''s loan money - that opened the negotiations and lead to the late move presumably because other plans at their end did not go ahead. That therefore highlights how highly they think of Jacob more than anything else - they didn''t want to risk losing him in their push for promotion.

Hopefully.  The way he used to hit free kicks, I''m surprised he never burst the ball. You have to feel a bit for Coventry fans.  In the top league for so many years, the last 15 years have seen them hit rock bottom for so many reasons.  Maybe on the up now, they have maybe cashed in on Maddison to free up money for their two defensive loan signings, which may be what they needed more than Maddison (who they managed quite well without earlier in the season when he was injured for so long).  A pragmatic decision for them - and they get to keep him for the rest of this season too.  With Jacob Murphy there, their results have an added interest this season and this just transfer just makes it more so.  Good luck to them for promotion - and if meet them because we are relegated this season (which of course I hope we won''t be, but it could happen) then so be it.

Having lived and worked in Coventry for 7 or so years and having family who are Cov fans, I''ve seen a lot of this lad.

I saw his debut and I''ve seen him several times since then including his last game. All I can tell you is that this kid is the real deal. He is technically gifted and dictates the game even at 19 years old. Very skilful and a dead ball specialist - he takes a decent free kick. All this nonsense about not being strong enough is utter garbage, he''ll be ready next season for first team action IMO.

£2m will be an absolute snip in years to come.

I think you slightly miss the point Yankee......the comparison isn''t between ourselves and Coventry, but between ourselves and the other clubs that were rumoured to be in for him

now if you need me to "dumb down" any further for you, I will try to oblige

Mid- Norfolk, whether or not you choose to "dumb down" what you post is entirely up to you. With respect to your statement that I slightly missed the point, I didn''t miss it but the manner in which you expressed it, i.e. at the end of your comments and attaching the "if" word to other clubs suggested you were uncertain. I chose not to comment on your uncertainty but rather the portion of your message you chose to lead with. That was entirely my point. You were attempting to be positive but chose to lead with the negative of what could happen to Norwich and the positive of what could happen to Coventry. As I stated, you are not the only one that uses this approach. If it makes you happy then, by all means, carry on. I was simply saying there was a much more positive way of expressing the opinion.

what the bloody hell are you wittering on about?

we can debate all we like about any positive/negatives about anybodies posts, but the cold fact of the matter is that Norwich are in a very real danger of being relegated......and that, whether it may sound "negative" in your view....is a fact.

examples of which would include?........

there used to be a poster (CITY) on here a while back (1st) ,can''t remember his name now....who would always trot out the same line that people were "attacking the club" whenever anybody were perceived to be question anything to do with NCFC in his view......until his own paranoia swallowed him up and dissappeared from this board.

are you going down the same road?
