Lafferty - this season's Becchio?

Recommended Posts

That sort of thing really gets my goat. He''s a professional employee of a company financed by paying subscribers. Who cares what anyone does off the pitch it''s what they do on the pitch that matters. Lambert was got rid of for something similar it''s pathetic and they paying public are never taken into account when these decisions are made. It was like when Pieterson was booted out by England. Who plays for England has got f**k all to do with Anderson and Broad. They''re professionals and paid to do a job.

Gitto & Making Plans both make excellent arguments for Lafferty to be on the team sheet.

If he has been a naughty boy, then what exactly has he done?

If he has been a naughty boy, then what exactly has he done?
Agreed.  Good posts, but Jerome and Mbokani had to be given games to see if they could get some goal scoring form and Grabban was next on the list to be given a try.  Wasn''t at Watford but online Grabban didn''t look good  either, so now maybe it will come round to give Lafferty a go. Lafferty appears to be doing everything right, tries hard, is a good finisher (see the goal he scored last week against MU), scores well at international level. He will be a handful and if he isn''t he can always be subbed for one of the others. Off the pitch stuff is irrelevant.

As a player lafferty has a lot of abilities, and I appreciate some of those, but I have two main opinions on his situation at Norwich

1) it''s not as simple as it''s made out to be. It''s not as clear cut as "we hint'' h''lowun hu''m tuh pley buh!" Maybe there''s some behind the scenes stuff? maybe Alex Neil, the manager that sees him day in day out doesn''t rate him as high as mbokani or jerome? Whatever it is it''s something tangible, something logical, not this boogieman some fans have invented for why we didn''t play becchio et al.

2) Kyle lafferty has the Cody McDonald memorial trophy down up this year before Christmas, which is pretty impressive.
I told you many months ago he would never play for us again.hes been a naughty boy.
Wow, a professional footballer is a naughty boy, shock horror.Based on that, a large proportion of them would never play for their respective clubs ever again. And if, as predicted, "he will never play for us again", then why was he sub a few weeks ago (presumably you don''t waste a subs place if you''ve got zero intention of using him), why did he play in the League Cup against WBA and why was he allowed to mix with the Under 21''s last week when no doubt his naughty boy antics, whatever they were, would have been seen as a potential bad influence on our young & impressionable players.Sorry but your theory doesn''t stack up.

Norwich can''t score a goal for love nor money and Lafferty can''t stop scoring whenever he plays as a centre forward at the moment. Is it rocket science for pete''s sake

Firstly Bor is such a sad tw*t

Secondly, as Making Plans sensibly put, we''ve played our 3 main strikers up front for some 15 games now, and they''ve scored a measly 5 goals between them. That''s woeful even at this level.

The only thing Making Plans didn''t mention, one has to ask what these three do on the training pitch that Laffs, doesn''t do. But the only difference we still know as a 100% fact, is that regardless of what Laff''s does on the training ground, he shines as a main striker for his country and has scored against numerous different international teams (from poor to good).

I''d much prefer to see him given a chance as the other three have failed abysmally, and clearly aren''t going to bag many goals. We have nothing to lose in trying him as the others aren''t tried and tested. They are factually tried and failed.
Perhaps picking players based on what they do in training is where we''re going wrong. It''s no good being good in training & then being rubbish on the pitch and let''s face it, after being rubbish for 15 games you might have thought that the penny would have dropped by now

We scored.
But still our striker didn''t score and he missed a sitter
Well if Lafferty is the answer, then quite simply we are knackered, without swearingI like Jerome,he works hard, and is the best at keeping the ball up front, but he lacks that extra Prem class. We need to spend big in Jan on an upgrade.

I agree to a point Herman, but if we stick with Grabban or Jerome imo we are also knackered. Mbokani seems to offer something. But agree we''ve got to go for it in Jan.

Think we will go back in for gayle, and what would he offer?

I will probably be shot down but it may be worth having a sniff around Charlie Austin. (Not literally.) Gayle would bring a bit more pace to our forward line. Not sure if he would be an answer though

If Lafferty was such a troublemaker then why didn''t go out on loan to Leeds? Time to give him a go. DM has been the only striker who''s looked the part. As I''ve said previous you can''t judge Lafferty until he''s had a chance. On paper he''s a goalscoring international striker who''s goals have helped N. Ireland qualify for a major European tournament. What''s Grabban done?
Despite doing sod all in a City shirt last season, and barely makng an appearance this season, apparently Lafferty is the answer to our attacking problems and will keep us in the PL if given a chance.

Ignoring the fact that Adams and Neil have both worked with Lafferty and neither considered him worth the candle, our forum experts believe this player is the solution. They see things our manager and coaching team don''t see.

What could it be?

A stick to beat the manager with?

Surely not.

Northern Ireland and the U21s is one thing. The Premier League is quite another.

Hence Lafferty joins the line of strikers from Becchio to Loza who should be "given a chance" because they "can''t do no worse can they."

Tragic.
Yes all very eloquently put and utterly tedious. Not sure if this has already been raised but if Lafferty is really as bad as you make out why did Alex Neil categorically refuse to even contemplate a loan move to Leeds earlier in the month?

I find it all very bizarre.

And on the Jamar Loza point, I''m not saying he is any good, but why not let our youth team players have a chance every once in a while? Or just release him from his contract if he''s not up to it.
