you would have thought if the club knew bowkett was leaving they would have had time to find and replace him so they could appoint a chairman straight after the old one stepped down

must have been a sudden walk / fall out

Bowkett seems to have been the one to have brought financial stability so with Jan approaching it is possible that the rest of the Board wants to splash some cash to aid survival chances and he disagreed with such a policy and walked out.

ON the 7th Dec the club said a few weeks so doubt we''ll hear any news before the busy Xmas period.

Patience !!

In Neil''s interview after the United victory he dedicated the win to Delia and David McNally for backing him. Chairman leaving out of the blue and a manager dedicating wins to board members

2+2=?

The interesting questions are, if so, why that might be, who the new directors are, and whether this all adds up to some kind of change of direction. I don''t think the position of chairman per se is that significant, unless the job is to become much more that of a hands-on executive.

to say I am leaving and I am not waiting around / that''s it bye sort it out when you like is strange

The business of football is not an entirely linear one. Slow and gradual progression is not a given, even by building sensibly over time.

The Premier League is an unforgiving beast, but it''s the only place to be. The yo-yo club has to deal with incredible fluctuations and the first year down in the champs requires significant financial, psychological and often personnel adjustments. There is considerable risk inherent in the strategy of maintaining too-good-for-the-championship-perhaps-not-good-enough-for-the-premier-league players and this approach is difficult to replicate over an extended period. It also requires a fairly hefty wages outlay for a championship side, making year one down a big effort/risk anyway.

Having stabilised the financeS, there is of course the question of the raisin d''etre of the club. Financial survival in a uneven playing field, whereby rich owners cannot guarantee success, but can offset and amortise losses, risks and higher wages over a longer term.

The financial recovery and turnaround that Bowkett specialises in has been achieved and - whilst there is no desire to return to such days - the opportunity in front of Norwich is considerable, with even true so-called safe to-yo option increasingly fraught with difficulties.

Norwich are in the Premier League, above the relegation line, with an excellent manager and money to spend left over from the summer. The manager has shown himself to be one who doesn''t risk funds unless he can genuinely improve the team (a rare, brave, and honest approach with the club''s best interests at heart).

A positive, ambitious January may well be on the cards. Ironically it is as sensible an approach as any other, with no greater risk than not doing it.

The club is entering a new phase.
Best ask our good dictator McNally. .....

Shame bowkett isn''t here still. But of course.....he was always gonna step down 😁
I’m guessing! there is more to this than has been made public. I would also assume that it is not about should we or should we not spend in the transfer market, as this debate would have been happening over a period of time and would not instigate a sudden resignation.

Mr Bowkett is a shrewd businessman, a man who typically would not suddenly resign over something as fundamental as how much we spend.

I suspect this may be something more personal, and I do not mean a family matter!!

With the comments of Ray, norfolkngood and CUSDP i think we may be moving towards the era of deletion. [;)]

Agreed, I doubt a man of his stature as a businessman would suddenly drop a bomb that he''s leaving - I would imagine he would have told them but, perhaps, left sooner than expected for some reason or another. The only thing I find odd is that is wasn''t mentioned at the AGM - surely he could have stated he would be stepping down - unless it was to avoid any questioning of the reason behind stepping down etc. I suppose.

AJ,

I imagine the reason for his resignation hadn''t happened at the time of the AGM, hence no mention of it. I agree someone of his stature would not suddenly drop a bombshell, unless there was a very good reason for it!!
there is of course the question of the raisin d''etre of the club
I did enjoy your post as always, Parma, but I was amused by this typo. Perhaps in the currant climate, we are waiting for a rich sultana to come in and bankroll us? [:D]

I''m looking forward to seeing who the new chairman is. A change is overdue given the mess of the last window, but overall Bowkett leaves us in a parlous state. "Could have done a lot better" would be a fitting epitaph.

Either you don''t understand the word ''parlous'', or you''re an extremely hard taskmaster...!

I doubt Bowkett had much input to individual transfers, he might had input into the overall transfer budget, but he would not of been involved in the day to day running of the club.

The role of chairman, as far as I''m aware, is a non-executive position, so its not going to have any adverse effect on not having anyone in that position for the time being. It shouldn''t effect this transfer window. The club can take their time in finding a suitable candidate
