Legend Iwan 30 Posted December 30, 2015 Bemused by posters comparing and justifying the £8m we could potentially be paying for a 29-year-old with two 22-year-olds and a 24-year-old who''s scored more goals this season than Naismith in a considerably worse team.Fair enough if we sign him, Neil clearly feels he''d add something to the squad, but that feels like too much money. Six Pack 92 Posted December 30, 2015 We''re hovering above the bottom three not because of our midfield but our defence. In the past month we have temporary addressed this with the introduction of Rudd and Ryan Bennett. McNally said we will spend responsibly so 8 mill low in today ''svalues but is high for us. If this is all we''re spending it needs to go towards a defender. If we are relegated at the end of the season it will be due to not acquiring a decent defender not because we didn''t buy Naismith. Small clubs against the big boys will only ever play one way - one up top with the extra midfielder. Naismith has not got the physique of Jerome or Mbokani to play the lone striker, he has not got the guile & ability to keep the ball like Hoolahan for the spot in the hole, has not got the pace & trickery of Redmond or Jarvis or Brady to be a winger. He does have a better goal scoring record than all those players but so do Lafferty & Hooper - he is most like these two - the second striker. In the past we have brought on Hooper when we are chasing a game in the final minutes - I see this to be Naismith''s role - a lot of money for a supersub. Anyone thinking he will become Robert Fleck is dreaming. If we buy him I hope he can become Fleck. Reality is AN will be forced to play him due to his price tag (similar to RVW) taking the place of someone like Hoolahan - without Hoolahan we won''t have enough ball in the opposition red zone to create chances - Naismith cannot score if he''s defending our goal. We will then really be in the sh1t! Like 2 seasons ago.You have water problem in your house - hire a good plumber - not another electrician. We need central defender(s) of real quality. McNally go get them!Midfield we already have some pretty exceptional players - add Howson & Vadis to those mentioned above.

As I''ve written before on this thread, there''s also a greater likelihood of his missing games due to injury and the fact that he''s suffered cruciate injuries to both knees. If we''re buying a lot of these older players then we''re going to forfeit more potential transfer profit and need to replace them more often. If Naismith hadn''t been selected to play for Everton for many months and was available for say £3-4m (perhaps similar to Jerome''s transfer), then the situation would be very different. We''re in a vicious circle, having to pay through the nose for experience because we haven''t previously invested in younger players at lower prices. Yes we have bought some younger players and would probably need to buy some older PL heads, but the age balance is severely wrong for a club of our size and means.Don''t fool yourself into thinking we''re getting Naismith for peanuts. It might be worth it short term to secure the PL money on offer next season, but signing too many of these older heads for relatively large outlays will damage our ability to remain in the PL in the longer term. The Masked Raccoon 0 Posted December 31, 2015 How bad is it when the main article on the PinkUn site has comments which goes into Season Ticket issues and our down fall in support. Not forgetting over 10 years of constant full capacity compared to those down the road.Fans need to get a grip. We are not like the old days, we will never return to those great days, ever in vocal fans in the masses together. It''s now global entertainment in real time. How often do you hear commentary about the home or away support to be honest? It''s a shame I admit but why have those on that thread turned it into that??? It''s about getting an attacking midfielder in and those who doubt it, turned things around for something different. He''ll be here soon...
Fakenham Canary 0 Posted December 31, 2015 Would be a good signing for us, looking forward to a transfer window that isn''t either underwhelming, totally disappointing or both! Him and Jarvis would make a great start, let''s hope the defensive frailties are suitably addressed too.A question though - who makes way to fit Naismith into our current set up? Presumably the only way we''ll get him is through offering some sort of assurances regarding his involvement, since that is his main issue at Everton. Where would this leave Wes, who has been one of our best players? Don''t think Naismith is suited to playing properly wide or as the striker so would we look to change our shape to fit everyone in? Maybe a 4-1-4-1 could accommodate both centrally behind the striker.
FenwayFrank 2,459 Posted December 31, 2015 I think Redmonds place is most under threat. He''s been playing quite narrow down the right which would probably be Naismiths best position, plus Wes would then keep his place in the team.
grefstad 0 Posted December 31, 2015 If Everton will drag this deal out to the last week of the window, I hope we are looking at other options. We don''t need to be held ransom to Martinez'' silly rambling. Naismith wants to come, if so, he should use player power to force the deal through.Waiting until Jan 30 should reduce the price paid significantly.
ZLF 274 Posted December 31, 2015 Neil rotates players and positions, esp in midfield where only howson has played ever game. He becomes an option in that rotation together with howson, wes, redmond, VOO Jarvis etc.
Buster Douglas 0 Posted December 31, 2015 OK tin hat time!I have heard that the deal for Naismith has fallen through due to him refusing having a relegation clause in his contract.
willo 0 Posted December 31, 2015 Tell your source he is talking b""""""s, deal is done, just awaiting to get the busy schedule done.Martinez would like to keep him, but its one last pay day for Naismith and chance of playing more regular. Nearly went over the line in August, and this type of clause you are referring to is standard in most contracts now, so would have been a problem before and not pursued again.. Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted December 31, 2015 19 games left if Everton want to keep hold until late January then that is about 14 games left, will that be long enough to make an impact ? This is the trouble with the January window. As for relegation clauses any PL side interested in him is probably bottom 6 and all would want a relegation clause if they have any sense
? 0 Posted December 31, 2015 Lol at the responses, said it was tin hat time! Yes any club in our position would insert a relegation clause in a contract but the thing is the Player doesn''t and won''t accept it so end of deal. We will see come 1 st Feb who''s right. BTW RVW didn''t have a relegation clause in his contract either, fortunately we were able to farm him out on loan the last two seasons! There was another player two seasons ago who also didn''t have a clause but never found out who it was, my initial thoughts it was Bassong but was never sure.As for a name/sauce, yea of course I''m going to tell you it was Jamie the lawyer and McNally''s secretary! BTW for you all, Jamie the lawyer has left the club! Whilst on about people leaving does anyone kjnow why Neil Reynolds left the physio job at the end of last season?????
