lappinitup 629 Posted January 3, 2016 "Four Premier League sides have reportedly joined the race to sign unsettled Leeds United wing-back Sam Byram in this month''s transfer window. The 22-year-old is out of contract at Elland Road in the summer and has refused several offers to sign a new deal, leaving owner Massimo Cellino "deeply offended". According to the Sunday Mirror, top-flight sides West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Norwich City have all joined the race to sign Byram this month, with a fee of around £8m being touted. Due to his age, Byram will not be able to depart on a free in the summer and instead will require Leeds to agree a fee with a potential suitor to avoid the issue being taken to a tribunal. Liverpool are also thought to be monitoring the situation."And in other news........"Leeds United have secured a deal for Norwich City striker Kyle Lafferty, according to a report in Tribal Football. The news comes from Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli. He has recently reported on such transfers as the arrival of Sol Bamba and Mirco Antenucci to Leeds United and seems to be partially in the know about events at Elland Road. He claims that Lafferty will sign a six-month loan deal with the option of making it a permanent two-year deal in the summer if the Northern Irishman proves a success. The report claims that the move was agreed on the 30th December and he will be announced next week. The move will not come as a shock if it does prove to be done. Lafferty has long been on the radar at Leeds with manager Steve Evans and chairman Massimo Cellino both big fans of the Northern Ireland international."The fact the two clubs are already discussing Lafferty may help the Byram situation. Highly rated young defender, hope we get him.
Tetteys Jig 830 Posted January 3, 2016 Byram is more of a winger these days. Could be another bradyesque player though for the right hand side.
KeiranShikari_2 0 Posted January 3, 2016 Have been expecting us to be ''''in for him'''' for about 3 years now. Glad it''s finally happening.
Tetteys Jig 830 Posted January 3, 2016 Mixture of him being not for sale and going out of form for a bit. Contact running out and he''s back to his top form. The stars are aligning.Leeds have form with letting their best players run their contact down while they feel they have a chance at promotion (see Johnson and Beckford) and I think they would still be due compensation if he left in summer, so the fee wouldn''t be small if we want him. Yellowbeagle 0 Posted January 3, 2016 I''ve only seen him a few times on tv, but I can''t say he really looked anything special, however that''s obviously not enough to get a full idea of how good he is.
Hairy Kenneth 0 Posted January 3, 2016 Yellow Beagle-you need to buy a bigger screen as it allows you to see more of the pitch and also allows for a better experience than actually being at the game.

lappinitup 629 Posted January 3, 2016 "Steve Evans revealed that two Premier League managers were in touch with him about Sam Byram as the January transfer window opened – but warned that Leeds United would not be talked into a cut-price deal for the in-demand youngster. Byram, who was heavily linked with West Ham United last week and has attracted attention from Aston Villa, is the subject of growing interest in his signature with Leeds ready to cash-in on a bid which meets their current valuation of him.The 22-year-old is out of contract in the summer – a stage at which Leeds would be due a seven-figure fee in compensation due to his age – and the Elland Road club have failed with attempts to renegotiate and extend his £12,000-a-week deal. Speaking after yesterday’s 1-1 draw with MK Dons, a match which Byram started, Evans said a decision on whether to accept individual offers for Byram would be left to owner Massimo Cellino and insisted that he would not be disappointed if January passed without a successful bid for him.United’s head coach indicated after a recent game at Nottingham Forest that Leeds valued Byram in the region of £5m and Evans said the financial situation at Elland Road was stable enough to prevent a cheap sale.“It’s no secret that Sam has lots of Premier League interest,” Evans said. “In the past 48 hours a couple of head coaches or managers have asked me about his character" “I’ve said publicly, and I’ve said to them privately, that he’s a fantastic young professional."Sounds much more sensible than the £8m that''s being bandied about. Lessingham Canary 99 Posted January 3, 2016 Lafferty plus £2 - £3 million could work ?

Essjayess 307 Posted January 3, 2016 Do we really need a wing back?..im kinda puzzled why we need Byram if we ever did.
Tetteys Jig 830 Posted January 3, 2016 Presumably he would be Redmonds competition and a good option for if we want to go 3 at the back with wing backs. He''s experienced at a decent level despite still being young, can fill in on either flank and still young enough to tweak to our tactics. Could do with an overhaul there imotbqhwy. As others have said he''d also be decent competition for Redmond as Elliott Bennet clearly isn''t going to cut it. He''s one of Alex Neil''s friends too (both are Glaswegians). If other PL clubs are interested then I''d be happy to see us push the boat out a bit rather than overly worry about value, similar to when be bought Howson. grefstad 0 Posted January 4, 2016 Energetic player who can do a job on RM, as many have already said. Obviously also challenge Pinto (if he signs) for RB.Would very much welcome this player, but not at 8 mill. Give he is out of contract soon, surely 3-4 mill must be enough, but with other teams also interested, I guess it will be the outlook of playing time that will be important for the 22 yr old. 93vintage 16 Posted January 4, 2016 As a rough guide, Howson was in a similar situation at Leeds and we paid about £2m ie around £6m in today''s PL money. Tribunals tend to set fees on the low side, but I''d agree that £8m would be too much.
Webbo118 0 Posted January 4, 2016 Surely, with Leeds being our official feeder Club, we have first refusal.
