Bethnal Yellow and Green 1,557 Posted January 12, 2016 Norwich could have said that to Everton, and they would have got the response "we won''t discuss it until January".Norwich can''t dictate when clubs do or don''t talk to them - it would be insane of Everton to allow Naismith, a player who is only just outside their starting 11, to agree terms with another club mid season.Wouldn''t really improve his motivation, and they would be stuck paying his wages until January knowing he has already mentally left the club. What if they needed him to play, especially in the Norwich v Everton game? It would have been more beneficial for him to stick one in Everton''s goal knowing he was leaving. Hairy Canary 668 Posted January 12, 2016 What we can''t determine though is when Everton would be prepared to release him. They made it clear they wanted him for the first two weeks in Jan

The players agent would be the one we would be speaking to with regards to contract clauses etc, Everton would obviously dictate the transfer fee, but there would be nothing to stop us speaking to his agent. Jim Smith 2,314 Posted January 12, 2016
Am really not that fussed about naismith - he is a good experienced option for wes if he does arrive, but we have decent midfielders and thats not a key area to strengthen, I can take or leave hi,m esp if he doesnt want to come.CB is another matter - a must have position.
I''m not actually that fussed about him either for the reasons you cite but that''s not the point really if AN wants him. Bethnal Yellow and Green 1,557 Posted January 12, 2016 Speaking to a player''s agent or representatives without the clubs permission is ''tapping up'' and Everton could rightly make a complaint about the club to the FA - who, is they felt it pertinent to could enforce a transfer embargo on Norwich City.Obviously this kind of thing does happen in secret, and Norwich may have done this with Naismith''s agent back in August, September or whenever - but nothing could be signed so an agent will always renegotiate before ink hits paper - especially if other parties express an interest - which has happened in the case of Naismith. ? 0 Posted January 12, 2016 Fair enough, but these seem like rather major factors and surely they should have been sounded out earlier, as you said, agents are contacted on the QT all the time.
ron obvious 1,501 Posted January 12, 2016 Didn''t Martinez say he wanted Naismith until mid Jan, because of their congested fixture list? If so, there''s nothing inconsistent going on.
Yelloow Since 72 54 Posted January 12, 2016 AN has just said that there have been "no stumbling blocks" in any negotiations, so the Naismith deal looks likely soon and others should follow, including that elusive quality CB!
Jim Smith 2,314 Posted January 12, 2016 He also said:“Some people will see Norwich as an attractive proposition to come and live and play. Others won’t, for whatever reason."Which can be read/twisted any way you choose!

Its more what it symbolises in terms of our strategy and ability to attract our targets in this window after the shambles in the summer.
Essjayess 307 Posted January 12, 2016 This whole Naismith saga has run and run, with nearly everyone making suggestions based on rumours on twitter or other fancyable outlets. All of them are total hogwash, there is one proper source anyone needs to read and that is Martinez. Hes the Everton manager in case you didnt know, and Naisy is an Everton player. He has said today Naisy is getting back into trim and preparing for the next 2 or 3 Everton games. There is nothing anywhere to suggest Naismith is leaving Goodison, and in all likelihood will still be an Everton player when the window ends. Time this daft topic was put to bed.
mrs miggins 0 Posted January 12, 2016 The saga is still running because AN has said he doesn''t talk about other players (unless he doesn''t want them) and Martinez has said that Naismith''s future is in doubt. There''s a reason for the continuous speculation and I''m afraid it won''t go away until one manager comes out and says the player isn''t going anywhere. chicken 0 Posted January 12, 2016 That would be brilliant Essjayess, apart from that''s not all of what Marinez has said.He stated, right at the beginning of the window, not that Naismith wouldn''t be leaving, but that he wouldn''t be prepared to allow him to leave until this little condensed period of games is dealt with. That''s incredibly common sense if you ask me. The other links are equally as believable in terms of them bringing in players. Although Everton are a relatively high hitting premier league team, they still operate on a tight financial budget (for whatever reason) and possibly don''t have the cash just sitting there to bring in a £20million+ player. That said, one should never, ever get carried away with these things until the player has signed on he dotted line and presented as such. Essjayess 307 Posted January 12, 2016 Exactly, im not even saying plz listen to what Martinez said at start of window, but today. We are fast approaching halfway thru the month and hes said Naisy is getting into trim for the next 2 or 3 games. All im saying is go on whar hes saying here and now, theres nothing to suggest Naisy is leaving Goodison anytime soon based on what their manager has said today. Making Plans 936 Posted January 12, 2016 More from MartinezEverton boss Roberto Martinez is hopeful of adding to his squad before the end of the January transfer window. The Everton manager said: "We''ve been working really, really hard to get some business (done) really early. Shani Tarashaj was our target number one in terms of doing it quickly."We''ve got a couple of situations that could happen. The shape of the squad is going to be determined in the last week of the window and we want the squad to be stronger than it is now."
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted January 12, 2016 I see another un named PL club are interested. The longer this goes on then the less likely it will happen. I would love him to come as he would be great as an attacking midfield player
Making Plans 936 Posted January 12, 2016 Changes by the minuteTOFFEES DUO HEAD FOR EXIT?Everton stars Steven Naismith and Aiden McGeady could be on their way out of Goodison Park this month.Forward Naismith is wanted by two Premier League clubs, with one of them Norwich City, according to Sky sources, and Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is happy for him to go.Winger McGeady, who has rarely featured this season, is a target for two domestic clubs and a third abroad and Everton are trying to help him find a loan move this month, along with midfielder Darron Gibson, who can also go out on loan.Martinez said: "We''re going to work together with Aiden and his representative and we''re going to make the right call. There''s been three enquiries and it''s going to be over the next couple of weeks that we''re going to make the final decision.PlusGAYLE FREE TO GODwight Gayle can leave Crystal Palace but only on a permanent deal, according to Sky sources.Queens Park Rangers are understood to head the list of the 25-year-old''s suitors with Norwich City also linked with the striker.Palace are confident of making a profit on the player they signed from Peterborough for £6m in the summer of 2013. Essjayess 307 Posted January 12, 2016 That club is Swansea. I think a lot is to do with Naisy undecided himself. Seems their house is in Ayrshire, his wife is pregnant, so its not jst about a footballing move to Norwich or Swansea, his wife takes precedence, so it could be a day to day thing, weighing up lots of factors. norfolkngood 1,086 Posted January 12, 2016 I think this has dragged on and we should have played a bit more hardball if everton want to sell or not they have a few games this month errr so do we and we need the points more so if you want to sell now or nothing should have been done late dec it would have given us time to go at other targets etc unless of course Naismith is messing about hoping another club closer to him now will come in for him offer better wages etc if that''s the case lets move on taking to much time over one transfer is getting a bit to common in my book
