Norwich’s hopes of signing Everton striker Steven Naismith have suffered a setback, according to Sky Sources

The transfer is reportedly in doubt after talks between the parties stalled but there is still a chance the move may go ahead.

After the shambles of the last window, getting our business done early in this window rings somewhat hollow now. Perhaps, our first acquisition should be Bournemouth''s recruitment team who appear to be able to get deals over the line. However, we are demonstrating an ability to dispose of assets which will be a most useful skill if we fail, again, in this latest window.

I did jury service last year and there were 4 people who had made their mind up in the first 20 minutes, fortunately there were enough left who were prepared to listen to all of the evidence.

To those saying such rediculous things as get Bournmouths recruitment team there are a couple of things;

Firstly it''s not their recruitment team having the impact, but more likely their billionaire backer who is providing them with the funding for larger wages and inflated transfer fees

And secondly, would anyone here be happy if we spent what they did on players like Murray, Grabban and Mings? Probably not..

If we ultimately can''t get him because of our geographical location then that is not the clubs fault although such things seem to go out of the window if enough cash is on the table in terms of wages so we are going to have to revisit our wage structure at some point soon if we are going to avoid this happening repeatedly. What is the clubs fault (if it''s the case) is all of this not being discovered until mid January when we were bidding for him back in the summer.

I''m not that concerned about not landing him in playing terms. I don''t think he''s any better than Wes or Vadis. Symbolically though it will be a blow to the club if he turns us down and goes to Sunderland.

if geography really is a sticking point, it does beg the question as to why the be all and end all is that the club "must" stay in the premier league this season with the apparant increased financeS next season.

It feels to me like our wage structure and player package is just not on a par with other premier teams and we are therefore less appealing than we might be...

Come on- would Geography be an issue to you if you were offered a lot of money? Nor does it hamper other teams outside of London. Sounds like an excuse to me to cover up for a lack of ambition on our part.

Some congratulate the board for making massive profits on recent player sales. Another angle is that we make profits because we dont compete when buying....and were lucky with one or two.

You pay peanuts.....and will be left, always, in the bargain bin and therefore (unsurprisingly) unable to move up a gear and to the next level.

I get so frustrated when looking at, say, Crystal Palace, who were in financial mess not long ago but who have grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Same with Swansea. Same with so many others. But we just seem stuck like a rabbit in the headlights whenever we are promoted and dont make the most of the opportunity offered.

Everything about this window stinks of the last. We are no better off than we were. We do not seem to be showing the ambition to become an established premier side. And unless BIG things happen in the next week. Relegation surely beckons and it WILL BE the fault of recruitment.

Everton want to sell but a) the club is in takeover talks with the Americans and b) want to ensure they have secured a replacement. Naismith wants to come but knows little about Norfolk and isn''t sure it is where he wants to see out his career and his agent is naturally looking at alternative options. All surmise of course. Added to that, he cost Everton nothing from Rangers and hence will probably be on a huge salary. He''s 30 yrs old in September.

Great player and am sure would be a good signing but remember he''s not an out and out striker - nor midfielder.

I''m sorry, but anyone who laps up rubbish put out by the Board suggesting that geography is an unsurmountable problem is deluded.

Sure, I''m prepared to accept that some players will not move from A to B, but in my opinion, the issue in the vast majority of instances is because we are either a) not offering a competitive fee, or b) we are not offering players a competitive package.

It''s been clear that Naismith has been very open to a move to Norwich. It''s clear that Everton want to sell. So I can only conclude that we are coming up short in some way.

Considering we flogged BJ and Grabban at such significant profits - I''m really disappointed we''re going into 2 key games in the middle of the Jan transfer window with largely the same squad that we started last season in the Champs with.

Firstly wanted to apologise for my earlier post, as Naismith was due to join the team at Stoke hotel, and was due to sign on Monday but this all stalled for more than one reason, tho agreement was made with Everton. He is now back with them, there is possibility of a loan at end of month for rest of season ''with a view'' which would take out the problem of a relegation clause, and give him and his family an idea of what it is like in sunny Norfolk. Do we really want that though?

There are others in the pipeline though especially from the continent, and may yet be a surprise or two!

TC Canary has provided the quote about getting business done early - as you can all read McNally put a pretty heavy caveat on it, correctly saying that it is beyond Norwich''s control when transfers are concluded.

Norwich did some early business in getting Pinto and securing Jarvis - they were chasing Naismith hard (he was in Norwich last Sunday for talks and a medical), but it seems Martinez has given him some reassurance about his future and he has elected to stay there. Unless you have jedi mind control powers there is little you can do about a player deciding he doesn''t want to move.
