Tetteys Jig 855 Posted November 2, 2015 As I''ve said elsewhere, I genuinely think the "big" games will play into Alex Neil''s hands. We drew with Liverpool away and nearly drew with city away in the only big games so far. I''m confident we will be past the 20 mark by Jan 1st

It's Character Forming 1,213 Posted November 2, 2015
Why don''t you try understanding what you read? Whilst we might not lose the 7 games to the sides I mentioned I also made the point that we are likely to lose 7 of our last 27 games so my conclusion remains valid. As we have lost 6 of our first 11 games imagining we could lose 7 of the remaining 27 is hardly contentious or, for Morty''s benefit, panicking.Really, some of you lack the basic reasoning skills to sustain an argument!
Ummm yes.... Well CC, my beef is with the OP''s line of argument which is basically that we won''t get enough points out of the tougher run of games coming up, but you were saying something pretty similar when you said we couldn''t expect to get any points out of the remaining 7 games against the top sides. Both are fallacies as shown by the fact that we got points against ManC and Chelsea even in the season we got relegated. Anyone who''s followed City for any length of time will be well aware that it''s not unusual for us to get a result against a bigger team but blow it against someone like West Brom at home. It''s a totally different argument to say that we are likely to lose 7 games out of our remaining 27... that''s how averages work and all of us (City fans at least) would be pretty happy with that outcome. You might want to think about your own reasoning skills, as shown in your posts, a bit more before throwing that sort of comment around. The truth is that given our relatively easy run of games, we''re a few points behind where we would like to be (and probably should be) at this point so the target for the rest of the season is a bit harder than it should be. Which shouldn''t really be news to anyone on this MB and is no cause for panic, aside from trolls like the OP and Waveney (is the OP Waveney by the way ?). Tumbleweed 106 Posted November 4, 2015 For me the difference between this time and last time is that we look generally a better side more capable of picking up the required points and apart from a couple of games have really not played that badly at all. Last time when we got relegated it was difficult to see how we would get any wins at all, the chances were few and far between and the odd scratchy win (I still remember the Ryan Bennett header 5 mins from time against Hull) plus other teams owns internal problems kept us alive until near the end.I feel disappointed that we are probably 6 points worse off than we should be, but AN seems to be learning and with some defensive additions in January I do still think we''ll just about be OK.And remember that for every surprise point we gain against the "top" sides there will be a surprise dropped point against a "bottom" side so these things will even up. Feedthewolf 5,932 Posted November 4, 2015 There has only been one instance of a team surviving in the Premier League having conceded more than two goals a game – Wigan in 2009-10 with 79 goals conceded. It''s extremely rare for a team to survive with more than 70 goals conceded (WBA in 2010-11 are the only other team to do it since the league reduced to 20 teams in 1995). Yes there are always outliers, and statistics can only tell you so much, but the overwhelming likelihood is that if we keep shipping goals at the rate we are, we will be relegated. It''s not my intention to pass judgement on Neil''s tactics, or to apportion blame for who was ultimately responsible for the absence of defensive reinforcements in the last window, but if we do get relegated then the failure to strengthen the back four over the summer will easily be the most important factor. In that eventuality, signing a top-class CB in January may well turn out to be our ''Ashton for 2016'' – the vital cog in the machine, six months too late. It's Character Forming 1,213 Posted November 4, 2015 Very true - as well as the number of goals conceded, the problem is our failure to keep a single clean sheet so far this season. I know that the goals didn''t actually hurt us when we beat both Sunderland and Bournemouth comfortably but conceding sloppy late goals in those games is indicative of our defensive vulnerability, which has cost us points in quite a few games. My feeling is that AN will tighten things up and if Bennett plays regularly at CB I think that will improve things. so I expect our goals against average to reduce over the rest of the season, and like you I think that if we continue to concede an average of 2 goals a game, we will get relegated. The main problems defensively for me are weakness against set pieces and vulnerability against attacks on the break. I think we''ve shown improvement in both areas in the last couple of games but it''s just a start.
