A day late for Gayle

Recommended Posts

Speaking to Holmesdale Radio, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has explained why he could not accept offers for the sale of striker Dwight Gayle on the last day of the transfer window.

He said: “We did have a late bid from Norwich, but we couldn’t really take it seriously on the last day of the transfer window. We’ve got a lot of injuries in our strike force at the moment. Dwight is an important part of what we are doing as well and once Glenn [Murray] had gone there was no possibility of Dwight going anywhere.”

Glenn Murray left Palace to sign with Bournemouth early on transfer deadline, and Parish has admitted that the sale of the forward was the reason as to why Gayle was not allowed to leave the club.

This is despite the forward, 25, being the centre of interest for much of the summer, and even being the subject of two bids on deadline day.

Parish has confirmed that Norwich City made an approach for Gayle on the final day of the window, whilst it was reported by Sky Sports that Aston Villa had a bid rejected as well. Both bids from Villa and Norwich were rejected, and it is likely that if they had approached Palace earlier in the summer, Gayle would now be turning out at either Villa Park or Carrow Road.

Hey steelsilver, who are these teams two divisions below us that you were on about, that spent more money than we did?

We have to be thankful for small mercies.

So that confirms that we weren''t the only club trying to buy him, so much for these people saying we were just after the dregs.

OP you really have to be the guy that sits in front of me at CR. He constantly moans about the club I support as well. Parish said yesterday that there was an injury to Connor Wickham hence he could sell no more forwards otherwise he could have left. Why are you missing that bit from what he said ? On another thread yesterday you seemed to have a different reason why Gayle did not sign were you making that up ?

I see what you''re doing Morty.....you''ll not get an answer though.

Meanwhile, who gives a stuff about Palace and what they have to say - it is nothing we didn''t know yesterday, that it was pulled because of Injuries. It seemed I was the only one who thought Gayle was any good, so why are people now bleating about not signing him?

Meanwhile, Bournemouth seem to get away scot free for unsettling our player and leaving it too late with their ''proper'' bid for us to do anything with. They then moan about us on the media, Palace moan about us in the media, and our more stupid supporters soak up every negative comment made. It''s astonishing how thin some people''s ''support'' seems to be.

OP on a different thread you informed us

Steve Parish revealed there were not any deadline day bids for Joe Ledley and Norwich’s move for Dwight Gayle ‘couldn’t be taken seriously’

Gayle’s future at Palace was up in the air all summer with Bristol City’s bid being accepted, only for the former Peterborough man to turn down a move. And then Norwich launched an ambitious bid with hours to go until Tuesday’s 6pm deadline but Parish said they never really considered the sale. “We did have a late bid from Norwich, but we couldn’t really take it seriously on the last day of the transfer window,” he explained.

WERE YOU MAKING THAT UP ? as what he said was we could not sell due to an injury to Connor Wickham otherwise he could have gone.

WHY WONT YOU ANSWER MORTY ? I have looked at Championship spending and I dont think ( I stand to be corrected ) that any Championship side had net spending higher than us in fact most made net profits sales against purchases
