A great day and it's only going to get better

Recommended Posts

Pretty much seals the result of the 2020 general election, one would think. If only, say, the Tories were hopelessly and viciously divided on the major decision facing politicians and the people - one that overshadows everything else - before then, and if only they had staked all their credibility on the rosy promise of an economic recovery that might prove as illusory as Bournemouth''s defence, and if only five years was a very long time in politics...

The new voting system they introduced and the resultant size of his vctory shows that the Labour party have been living a lie since Blair took over, in not representing the majority of its traditionl supporters.  That lie, or con, had been good for the labour party in that it got them into power.  Since then politics has moved on and unfortunately for them, they have just moved backwards twenty years.  What they have done is like giving the Norwich fans the power to vote for who the manager is.  If it had been a choice between AN, Mackay or Lennon, I wonder who would have won.......and where we would be now...

Unlike most on here I think this has been a good thing for British politics. What has been the point of New Labour winning elections if all they have done is implement Tory-lite policies? If I wanted right wing policies I''d vote Conservative, they do it better than Labour.

Having a socialist Labour party puts clear water between the parties and gives a greater chance for a moderate centre party to emerge. It''s how politics should be - left, right and centre, you takes your choice.

The

only trouble with that is that whenever a centre party makes any

headway, as in 1974 where Liberals got 6m votes and ended up with 14

seats, is that the first past the post system fails the middle ground.   Labour 11,645,616   - 301 seatsTories    11,872,180  - 297 seatsLiberals  6,059,519   -  14 seats

So much for democracy......

Bet the conservatives are regretting the EU referendum, it may have been the policy that got enough potential kippers on-board to get a majority, but without it this parliament would be pretty plain sailing for them. As it happens I think the referendum is going to tear the Tories apart as well.

Lol, yea I think this appointment is actually what will make Corbyn unelectable.

Very possibly. We could end up out of Europe, a tory party split down the middle, the labour party already splt down the middle, the middle ground in dissaray and Scotland demanding another referendum which if we leave Europe will probably mean Scotland going too.  That would leave England/Wales/NI on their own in a world where even Wales might decide they are better off being on their own.  Interesting times......

Next stage would be independence for Cornwall, Manchester, the North East.......and even East Anglia........now that would please some of the neanderthals.......

I think you make a very good point LDC. I did try and look up Corbyn''s views on PR but couldn''t find anything. Didn''t look that hard to be fair.

If, as he says, he want''s to attract some of the millions of disenfranchised who don''t bother to vote because no party reflects their views then PR would be a very valuable tool.

Trouble is he would need to win an election to implement that and pigs flying may well be more likely than that.

Will Russia invade Europe?

will USA elect a war mongering republican conservative Bush jr as president?

Will China buy up the rest of Asia?

Will the population of Africa and the middle east emigrate to Europe?

Will City buy a Centre back?

Please Jimbo get out your crystal balls and tell us?
All those things may happen Gitto but could you really see Corbyn being able to manage any of those senarios!
Unfortunately, Jim, the day has long since passed when any British leader of any political stripe has the ability to manage any of those scenarios with the exception, of course, that they will always have the ability to promise to "buy the centre back." [;)]

At last someone''s managed to get round to talking about we we didn''t by a centre back, it''s because Jim didn''t believe that Corbyn could manage one, will this be sorted before the next transfer window?

Politics really is such a crock of *****.Most MP''s tell the truth as often as Jim Hacker if he seriously thinks that in an attempt to save his family from a leftie Armageddon he voted for Jez.That said Jez has installed someone he''s never met as his Shadow Education Secretary so maybe the lunatics have already taken over the asylum....

That would make Houghton out to be Ed Miliband, and Neil Adams as Harriet Harman.
On reflection, it''s not a bad analogy.
