Newton 0 Posted August 13, 2015 Destro signed for Roma in July 2012 . The exact transfer fee was a little complicated with Roma initially taking Destro in a temporary deal for €11.5 million (€8.5 million cash plus half of the rights to both Giammario Piscitella and Valerio Verre) with an option to sign him outright for €4.5 million, which meant Destro would cost Roma €16 million in total He is only 24 and scored 41 goals in 118 games - seems a right bargain @ £4.5M (6.3 Euro) if it goes through - looks bette roption than Gayle
AJ 1,218 Posted August 13, 2015 It''s in the national press, yes it''s not concrete as the club haven''t commented and probably won''t unless the deal is completed but it is a lot more concrete than random rumors on random football websites!
AJ 1,218 Posted August 13, 2015 That said Newton, we thought we were getting a blinding good deal with RvW!!!!
jeagle 0 Posted August 13, 2015 This is one of the few rumours I like the look of, good age and scored a few goals in a half decent league. If he arrived with some confidence then we could have a good unknown quantity on our books.

ROBFLECK 132 Posted August 13, 2015 Nothing concrete, just something to get people''s hopes up...to then crush ''em down again. Don''t believe it
Newton 0 Posted August 13, 2015 If we can get him for £4.5M it is a gamble worth taking - gambled on nothing else in this window & I assume he would take Hoopers place in squad (he would leave and we must get £2/3M for him), the net ciost would be minimal
reg 0 Posted August 13, 2015 Hope he is as good as his brother Mattia!
Bradley Johnsons left foot 0 Posted August 13, 2015 Maybe I''m being pessimistic but for £4.5 million I just can''t see this coming off. I would love to be proved wrong however. Good age, good goal scoring record and a number of International caps.Maybe we are being used as a wake up call to hurry along a bid from someone else? They should chuck a few extra million (if we have it to spare) and really try and get this guy.
AJ 1,218 Posted August 13, 2015 I''m only teasing Newton! In this day and age the cost of £4.5m for a player of his caliber and age is indeed a risk worth taking. He could be a good investment for our immediate success, and if he''s a hit in the Prem could be worth money in a few years time. At least we learnt from our mistakes with RvW and aren''t throwing money around, for under £5m it could indeed be a coup.
The Engineer 11 Posted August 13, 2015 Judging by his Youtube compilations I think he would offer us something slightly different to what we''ve already got. Incredibly well timed intelligent runs and a knack for being in the right place at the right time. Can also score 40 yard half volleys Suarez-esk! All in all looks a tidy player used to playing in a league not too dissimilar from the Premier league so hopefully adaptation wouldn''t be too much of a problem. Very tidy signing if it comes off :)
ron obvious 1,499 Posted August 13, 2015 Didn''t Parma say this was a non-starter? Using us as a stalking horse to get bids up or somesuch. His neck of the woods, so he likely has more knowledge of the situation than us.

Lessingham Canary 99 Posted August 13, 2015 Looks / sounds promising, lets hope this one gathers some momentum during the next 24 hours, looks better than what we have been linked with up to now.

andyc24_uk 58 Posted August 13, 2015 Looked like he was going to Bologna but the fact this hasn''t yet gone through makes me think he may actually be considering us... He''s been bounced around several Serie A teams in the last few years; we could probably offer him a better wage than Bologna, and he''s young enough that he might just fancy a different challenge and a chance to put himself in the shop window for the bigger teams by proving he can score in the Premier League... Given that people are seriously suggesting we spend 10m on Jordan Rhodes, surely we need to put some money behind this, 4.5m is nothing these days and for an Italian international striker might just be the bargain of the season! Alex Moss 2,165 Posted August 13, 2015 I''ve got a feeling we could actually see 2 strikers going out with 2 incomings. The No9 shirt is surely being saved for ''better than what we have'', our main striker, which could be Destro but we''d surely be lucky to get a player of his calibre in for such little money? Not sure how reliable the Daily Mail is, though surely it''s better it being reported in there than via some ITK Twitter account.

Parma is a well informed contributor to this MB whose posts are enjoyable to read - I suspect the issue is that he writes with words of more than one syllable and you struggle to understand, hence your own viewpoint that you know nothing about Italian football. Nothing to be ashamed of, you undoubtedly are amongst like minded rustics in Ipswich.
Platonic 1 Posted August 13, 2015 The thing is, two things don''t fit for me1) This guy seems way out of our league 2) The price we''re quoted as offering is pretty ridiculous for a full Italian international who''s previously been linked to Chelsea. Fun for a slow news day, but I can''t see it being more than that.
Newton 0 Posted August 13, 2015 According to the Daily Mail, Norwich City have tabled a £4.5 million bid for Roma striker Mattia Destro. However, a conflicting report from Football Italia suggests that Bologna (who were originally thought to be leading the race anyway) are close to signing him. (Perhaps Parma right - why the abuse Vindo - oh forgot you have Troll tendacies))It remains an audacious transfer for David McNally and Alex Neil to pull off, but the ever-growing consensus that a new striker is necessary means Norwich City may be willing to splash the cash Do we go higher - if Neil wants him, could we not splash the cash, we must have a bigger budget than Bologna and be able to pay high wages ? Branston Pickle 3,635 Posted August 13, 2015 I thought we did all this a couple of days ago: we were interested, but he seemed set for Bologna (or at least not to us), which still seems the case. Do we know that our reported bid wasn''t ''old'' news that the Fail has only just picked up on??
Salopian 1 Posted August 13, 2015 The "move" is probably only a first contact, with no serious discussion yet. It is at most a bid, and judging by the long drawn out process and "insults" suffered by Bruce over Brady, there may be still higher bids. All this assumes that the player is willing, and signs are that he might be, as his club have strengthened his area. There may be something in it, but I hope that we keep Mbukani''s telephone number, just in case. andyc24_uk 58 Posted August 13, 2015 The thing that makes sense despite his quality making him seem a surprise target is that Roma desperately need to get rid of a couple of strikers - they''re heavily overloaded up front (currently Iturbe, Dzeko, Totti, Victor Ibarbo, Falque, Gervinho, anDestro, plus players like Salah and Ljajic who are more wide-men but can play further forward as well). Presumably they have the same 25-man squad rule so at least one or two of those players are going to miss out, and Destro appears to be bottom of the pile for some reason. Feedthewolf 4,844 Posted August 13, 2015 Parma and Bethnal both seemed to think it highly unlikely – anything in these latest reports to change their mind, I wonder? And £4.5m would be a snip, although remember we started the bidding at £2m for Brady and wound up paying £7m. On that scale, we''ll end up paying £15.75m for Destro... [;)]
Mr Angry 1,545 Posted August 13, 2015 Parma''s comments were made when we were rumoured to be interested-now the rumour of interest has become rumour-or report-of a bid. It would be interesting to know what Bologna''s bid was, then we''d know if our bid is serious.
Ginja 26 Posted August 13, 2015 There''s no way we''d get him for £4.5 million, but I''d imagine that to be an opening bid (if a slightly embarrassing one) I can''t see him going for less than £7 million
Six Pack 91 Posted August 13, 2015 I think we need someone who can play up front on their own. He looks totally dependent on balls played through to him, though he''s still got the keeper to beat on many occasions. No elusive running or taking on an opponent - I suppose he''s more like "Rossi". We already have Hooper for his finishing - not sure if this guy''s happy on the bench. He''s down the pecking order for a reason. We may be buying another RVW.I would have to go with Gayle.
