Dwight Gayle

Recommended Posts

Apologies if I''ve missed it, but this seems to have been ignored on here:

HITC Sport understands Crystal Palace pulled the plug on Dwight''s Gayle potential move to Norwich at the last minute.

Norwich City were confident of signing Dwight Gayle before the transfer deadline only for Norwich to shelve the deal at the final minute, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

The Canaries had made a late move for Gayle after seeing moves for a number of targets fall through, but they suffered more frustration in their pursuit of Gayle.

Gayle is understood to have agreed personal terms with Norwich after Palace accepted the Canaries'' bid for the unsettled striker just before the close of the window.

However, Palace were forced to stop the deal happening after Connor Wickham picked up an injury in training.

Palace are waiting to find out the full extent of Wickham''s injury, but with the summer signing from Sunderland possibly facing a spell on the sidelines and Glenn Murray having left Selhurst Park for Bournemouth, Alan Pardew''s side were unwilling to sanction a move for Gayle as it would have left them short of attacking options.

Just illustrates how chancy transfer dealings can be.

Thanks Ron,

Posted an equivalent post exactly the same time. Even this surpasses our late window failings of days gone past!

Trouble is this should have taken place yesterday or last week or last month when it was muted first. You cannot wait til the last hour of the last day. Amateurish and a board that is full of business people. Gayle in could have created the space for Grabman to leave. And 5.5m back in the deal. Amazing really. Gayle would have wanted to play for us. Hooper has been on the verge of leaving so many times....cannot feel wanted. Grabman doesn''t want to be here. Lafferty, Jerome and MBokani it is then in reality

As mentioned, not good business leaving it so late.  We could have had a serious bid in before they sold Murray to Bournemouth.  Sounds like Gayle was a panic buy after other options fell through.  Probably best he didn''t sign in which case.

But perhaps he wasn''t seen as a main option in our set-up? More as a Hooper replacement, & therefore below Mbokani & Jerome (& previously Grabban). So a handy player, but not essential to Alex''s master plan.

Sure. But whatever his place in the squad, why wait until the very last minute?  Didn''t Palace accept a bid from Bristol some time ago, but Gayle wanted to wait and see if he''d get a better offer.  If they''d gone in for him then he''d probably be here now.  But clearly they thought they could do better and wanted better.  Which doesn''t say much for how highly they rated Gayle, does it.

PP:

Weell ... not really. They may have rated him at what he does - just not seen him fitting into the system that easily. It may also have been influenced by the Hooper going/not going saga. It''s a complex old world out there.
