We''ve got reportedly £6m for a player that isn''t good enough to play out wide in the premier league and isn''t good enough to play central against the players we have there.

Yes he was our player of season and was superb for us last season but so many on here have said he''s not good enough for the PL so sounds to me like good business.

He won''t play centrally over Tettey/Mulumbu/Howson and now that Olsson is fit Brady will play out wide. Getting Jarvis in has now given us further wide option.

Yes we''d all have loved a centre half and I can t believe we haven''t but this was good business.

I echo near enough everything that Baywing has said. We also need to think about what BJ wanted. He''s 28 not guaranteed a game here anymore, when made aware of the Derby interest he could have said that he wants to go.

Im not suggesting or disputing what a great player he has been for us, he was one of my favourite players from last year.

I just think £6m is a good deal and good luck to him.

He clearly isn''t the kind of professional who is happy to sit on the bench and take his money, he wants to earn it.

£6M for him is very good business.

Jarvis can do things that Johnno can''t and vice versa, but Jarvis hasn''t been signed as a direct replacement for Johnson. He has been signed to do a specific job in AN''s team and style of play. Something that Johnno could not fulfil.

BJ was immense for us last season, but has been out played, by the other midfield players we have (not even allowing for Mulumbu yet) this season.

We love BJ, but obviously AN doesn''t see him playing in the Prem, neither does any other Prem team, hence his move to Derby (for whom, I am sure he will be a success)

Jarvis was linked with Norwich last year when Neil came in and appears to me to have been a long term target rather than a stop-gap soloution. The reality may be that Johnson, realising that Norwich were now actively trying to sign another winger, read the writing on the wall and decided to push through a move rather than be left on the bench.

I''m gutted that BJ has gone. More so than I was last summer when we lost Snoddy.

 

From BJs angle it may be a good move. he is 28 and this contract is the big one for him. A four year contract at Derby takes him to 32. I doubt we would offer him four years.

 

I wish him all the luck in the world and hope he can stick a few in the binners net...

I certainly havent claimed he was technically the best player we have.....my argument is he was 100% committed, can the same be said about those still here ?

I agree he is the type of player who wants to be involved and retains my respect for that

IMO Johnson would hardly have played this season and has 5 or 6 other ahead of him in the pecking order. We got a bloody good price for him so a decent deal for all parties I''d say.

Usual story of people sticking the boot into a new signing with very little first hand evidence to support it. Looking forward to seeing what he can contribute, probably not the best thing to judge him on appearances under Allardyce.

I''m disappointed he''s gone and will miss his whole hearted displays but let''s get a bit of perspective here.

Jarvis is not BJ''s replacement, Brady is. Jarvis is cover for Brady. We have pretty much swapped Johnson for Brady as far as transfer fees are concerned. We have been desperately short of authentic left sided midfielders for over a season now as Johno and Lafferty really have been square pegs in round holes trying to do a job out wide and it has been addressed at last.

My guess is that Johnson saw that he wasn''t going to get much playing time wide left now that Brady is here and similarly could see the same happening with Mulumbu in the centre. We got £6m plus and he got a four year contract and regular first team football.

The only negative is not strengthening our centre half option.

So in summary, we have got in:

Mbokani

The midfield 4 give us plenty of experience in the PL and Mbokani might be brilliant but in the same token might not be, however, so many wanted us to be rid of RVW it has to be a positive move, he''s much better equipped for the PL style of football.

We''ve lost:

BJ for good money and doesn''t really fit our system

Turner who was never going to play and is past his best

RVW, well I think that''s been done to death.

Yes would have been to have been rid of Grabban and maybe replace for Gayle but what we''ve done is improve the squad for not a lot of transfer fee (yes we''ll be paying loan fees and wages) but that means we have money available in January if needed, logically it will be but it''s there to use.

Good piece of business completed there. We all loved his attitude and the way he went about the game, he was great last season but not quite good enough to be a regular in the premiership as we saw previously. As mentioned already he was way down the pecking order in the centre, was only back up to Brady and we now have a specialist back up in Jarvis. Derby are spending a lot in the hope of promotion and we got them to pay more than he is actually worth. No one else would of paid 6 to a potential 7.5m.

I''d liken this to Andrew Crofts.....integral to a championship promotion campaign but when it came to it ,just didnt have the technical qualities to perform in the premier league.....difference is ,we didnt get £6m-7m for Crofts.

The squad will be "missing" that certain something without Bradders in it.

I would never have believed that we would have got £5m, rising to £6.5m, for him in a million years though.

Gutted BJ has gone but £6m is good business. Interesting to see what Howson''s role is going forward, or Jarvis for that matter. £110m MINIMUM next season if we stay up. Sorry but we haven''t tried hard enough, still no quality CB. Feeling underwhelmed.
