Russell Martin
How on on earth is Russ to blame for the goal when Brady didn''t mark the scorer?
I''ll tell you how he was to blame. His job is to stop crosses coming in and he failed twice in the space of 20 seconds. He stood 3 yards off the guy & let him get the first cross in, the ball came out and he still stood off the guy & let him get the second cross in. There was no attempt to close him down, make a tackle or block the cross. He just stood there.

I watched the game, Martin, Wes. Redmond and Tettey were all poor. But there is NO confidence in Martin, he tries to shepard every player, he''s scared to make a challenge because he knows he''ll be skinned. He is and has been the constant weak link in the starting eleven for months.

Odidja turned over the ball like it was nothing and made little to no effort to get it back, 1 minute of possession later, Bournemouth score. In fact, his lack of tracking back also caused the penalty. He was switched off defensively all game.

Don''t think Russ had his best game (who did?) but he was often overloaded 2 v 1 against Bournemouth players.

As correct as it is written. Watching the goals, especially the first and the third, Martin can be blamed on both.

1st goal: Martin fail twice to cut out the cross. Standing off, allowing far too much space for the winger. No attempt to press or tackle. Just hilarious poor defending.

3rd goal: Bassong with a poor pass out of defence, it gets intercepted, Martin (and Redmond) messes up his/their "challenge", allowing the winger to run 20-30 yards and deliver a peach of a cross from which Afobe scored.

Perhaps harsh to blame it all on Martin, but it is a combination of things. We never seem to correct a wrong. If someone makes a mistake, there is no-one there to rectify the error. We "always" seem to pay for errors made, and without counting, I guess 60-70% of the goals we concede are self-inflicted, with Martin being a big part of that.

No I''m not a relation-I know him.

Keep up the scapegoating though and ignoring the facts like him playing in the clean sheets I mentioned a short time ago-nice selective memory though.
So Brady has no part in that goal then?
Maybe but you cannot allow the same guy to cross twice in the space 20 seconds. That is where the danger came from and the first priority is not to allow the crosses come in.As Captain RM showed no leadership or motivation at all today. He is simply not good enough - that''s why we''ve bought Pinto, isn''t it?

I think Hairy probably notices that if we concede from a cross on Matin''s side it''s deemed his fault. And if we concede from a cross from the LB side it''s also deemed Martins fault.

HK, the facts are written above and will be available on MOTD to personally witness. Now I know that you know him, it''s all become clear. No doubting he''s a nice chap blah blah blah, but a premiership footballer, not in my book and many others aside.

Making Plans-I think Pinto will be in the team soon along with a new CB (hopefully Klose if he hasn''t been put off after today!) with Russ on the bench as cover for RB and CB.

Agreed. Martin''s form was going last season and I couldn''t believe it then that he was given a new contract.

He is not good enough.

Martin is awfull. Absolutely awfull but he certainly ain''t the only one. To be honest a whole new back 4 is in order.

Yes there were alot of very poor performances but none worse than Rm AGAIN. So if he closed down the crossing threat or God forbid made a TACKLE instead of waving his arms around like fuckin marigold all the time.Constantly out of position, lack of pace, poor distribution, no leadership on the pitch, seriously he needs to go and have a good talk to himself AND a league 1 club manager.

Martin looked off the pace at Stoke and by all accounts was very poor again yesterday. He is not the sole problem at the back but he is a problem and needs dropping. Bassong has also been sloppy for a few weeks and Neil continues to add to his growing list of mistakes by wasting Brady at left back when he should be playing further forward in front of Olsson.

Martin is a useless pudding but to be fair to him he was being targeted by Bournemouth and got little in the way of support from Vadis

Where I was standing for the first goal I was bang in line from where the cross was taken. Martin didn''t close down quick enough but the central defending was appalling

Only player I felt who came out of the game with any credit was Johnny howson

All this yet he was our third highest rated player by whoscored, behind Mbokani and Brady.

Yet again he was left unprotected by the right midfield, even going back to Snoddy, our RFB has always been left pretty much on his own, or far more so than he should be, whoever it has been.

Figures from yesterday;

Tackles; RM 4, Brady 5

Interceptions; RM 1, Brady 0

Blocks; RM 5, Brady 3

Clearances; RM 5, Brady 3

Total RM 15, Brady 11.

RM was up against Pugh, their star player, he got in 2 crosses from 23 passes (11.76%) Brady was up against Stanislas, he got in 8 crosses from 32 passes (25%).

Go figure!

Not sure how whoscored arrive at player rating but I suspect the above figures impact.

Appears most are blaming the usual scapgoat. My view on it (& I''ve only seen it live so far) blame can be attached to about half the team. Vadis not tracking back, RM for allowing cross to come in, RB &SB stationary, Dec the ball is in the 6 yard box for god sake, should have come for it& Brady watching whilst his man goes pat him. So symptomatic of the goals we concede. Very poor by ALL of them

Johnie Howson was the only player who turned up, had a bit of bite and strung a few passes together and completely agree with above re Brady infront of Olsson. Wes was appalling doing his normal lose the ball in the attacking final third or slowing the play down going nowhere. Not enough quality in team down to our old school champagne socialist bullshit board, no ambition at all selling us fans short yet again.

Martin was hung out to dry in the last two games by Ofoe. Spent both games being overloaded as no cover came back. He didn''t put in his best performances because he was again trying to do two people''s jobs and anyone will look poor in that situation. It''s no coincidence he looked better with Redmond or Howson in front as they provided him with more support as the right sided player should.

oal, what a surprise... good grief.
Get real, Brady plays him onside, where''s his grief. Then RM reads the game well, keeps the ball live and we score. Guess that doesn''t suit your agenda though?

Agree Ray-so quick to bash Russ. His play from the back has been very good today and quick thinking on that free quick also good. I notice there have been crosses from pintos side-can we slate him yet?

HK,

Would love to say yes, if only to get some perspective on here, but, prefer not to slate any of our players, unlike some!
