martin olsson out for 2 months
after having shoulder op according to the sun
Long overdue op, but the best time to do it, missing  pre-season and only a two or three games.  Suggests that we might have someone lined up as a back up already.
This beggars belief; weeks have passed since Wembley - why waste them if he needed surgery?
Perhaps a rest was needed before any operation, or maybe just needed a rest full stop, without dealing with the aftermath of an operation straight after an exhausting season.

Well according to this story from May, he had surgery done only a couple of days after the play-off final.

Even if he had it before the end of May, it''s still cutting it close for the 8th of August, though presumably he can do fitness training and such, as it''s the shoulder. It''s a bit odd that nothing has been said about it.

Needed a LB anyway as Garrido has left and imo Olsson was the poorest defender for us last season.

Brady would fit in lovely

Olsson had a poor start to the season but kicked on after Christmas, was excellent for the last couple of months.

Brady is more a midfielder than a defender, would play wingback for Hull - but not good at the defensive stuff particularly. If Norwich were to bring him in I imagine he''d play where Johnson did for Alex Neil, on the left wing.

As others have mentioned, Olsson had surgery just after Wembley. I seem to remember him missing the Internationals and the Swedish manager had come and out and said that it was in everyone''s interests for Olsson to have surgery then.

The picture Elliott Bennett just posted on Twitter shows that Olsson is training with everyone already. Obviously a shoulder injury needs to be managed carefully, but you''d expect him to be back before 2 months.

"CITY can confirm that full-back Martin

Olsson underwent shoulder surgery in the week after City’s Play-Off

Final victory over Middlesbrough.

The operation – which forced him out of Sweden’s games against Norway

and Montenegro in June – took place on Friday, May 29 and was a success.

The 27-year-old is now working towards regaining full fitness, and boss

Alex Neil said: “As soon as the season finished, Martin had an operation

on his shoulder, which was an ongoing issue for him. There were a

couple of games last season where he played through the pain.

“We needed to make sure for Martin’s sake that it stopped being an ongoing issue.

“He’s well into his rehab now, which is going well. The operation was

successful; it’s just a case of how quickly we can get him back, we''ll

know more in the next few weeks as we continue to monitor his progress.

“He''ll be back in contention as close to the start of the season as possible.”

We certainly need cover anyway now Garrido has gone.

It''s strange tho'' reading the Pinkun sometimes. Olsson at the start of the season didn''t play as well as we know he can, but improved, especially after AN arrived. But that''s comparing him to his own best performance level. Comparing him to our other defenders IMO he was easily the best defender we had, always solid in defence and a real attacking threat too. To say he was our worst defender beggars belief IMO.

Par for the course on here ICF. There isno need to use the term "worst" to describe any of our players last sea..son. To my mind Whittaker was overall our best fullback last season. But that doesn''t mean that Olsson didn''t also have a good season.

Vadis looking lean in that photo too. I still harbour hopes of him emerging as a real bonus "new signing" for us next season if he can stay fit though the pre-season.
