Mark Bunn

Aston Villa are lining up a move for former Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Mark Bunn. http://t.co/k7AbPBT7oo

Decent move for a decent back up.

I appreciate it could be a good pay-day for him and he wasn''t even making our bench last season, but I thought his main complaint was he wasn''t getting to play at all?

Surely he''d be better to go to a lower league club as a no1 choice?

Bunn did a good job for us during Ruddy''s lengthy spell out.

A decent keeper and possibly a better shot stopper that JR, although inferior in all other aspects of ''keeping.

What happened to Jed Steer? His career was supposed to take off at Villa Park and we were all angry at Paul Lambert for poaching him. Now he could be back at number four choice.

Decent keeper and actually might get some game time under Sherwood, who doesn''t seem to rate Guzan. With Given now gone, It would be Steer as third choice I imagine. None of those three are stand-out players, so it might be a nice little battle. I''d like to see Jed start to push on!

I wish him all the best. Did a decent job for us when called upon and just got on with it without any fuss.

I echo Tilly''s words. Never going to be the best keeper in the world but a decent back-up nonetheless. Good luck to him, just not against us!

The life of a back up keeper is a strange one.  We''ve had a fair few in our time - I can just about remember Mervyn Cawston, Roger Hansbury and Clive Baker. None of them were ever good enough to be number one and its always interesting to see what happens when the ''number 1'' moves on. When Keelan, Woods and Gunn left or retired, their replacement always found it hard to gain the predecessor''s reputation.

We''ve always had a good crop of young keepers - Rudd, Steer, Joe Lewis etc, but none have ever looked like - or had the chance - to establish themselves as the number 1.  Of course goalkeeping isn''t like other positions, so they can''t ''adapt'' or play in a different outfield role like, say, Russell Martin or Bradley Johnson did last season.

2nd keeper is a long and lonely job...

hours of training (sometimes more than outfield players due the specialisation of the position) knowing you''re going to be on the bench every week.

A red card, loss of form or injury is the only chance you''re ever going to get... give him a kick in training! ;)

Roger Hansbury was a good goalkeeper too - he stood in well for Keelan at times and had quite a decent career after he left Norwich.
