Robbie Brady

Recommended Posts

There is an interesting parallel with Snodgrass - relegated with one year left on his contract Hull bought him for around £7m.

Now, Brady relegated and one year left on his contract - Hull want about £7m for him. You can see where they got that valuation from...

It''s a cat and mouse game - Brady''s valuation will go down the longer the summer goes on. But the longer Norwich wait the more teams that will be interested.

Just to point out one thing as well - Brady never played left back for Hull, but as a wing back. Not sure he is defensively sound enough to play a deeper role.

I agree with what you''re saying BY&G.But how much of that £7m for Snodgrass was up transfer fee, and how much was add ons? This is the confusing thing these days with transfers. The ''headline'' price (or ''rumored headline'' price for the many undisclosed transfers) these days is made up of all sorts of incentives and add ons. It''s hard to know what the real price is.I wonder how much we actually ended up getting for Snodgrass, seeing as though he barely kicked a ball last season.

Sorry he is not worth that, what has he really done to warrant that, another inflated British player who has not done anything.

Glad we do not pursue as there are other options.

Maybe Hull still owe us £3m for Snodgrass, so if we pay them that, we''re quits.

So, the question I''d ask, is he better than Bradley Johnson in that position?  Will he score as many goals (I accept he probably won''t do that again next season).  Any player who comes in needs to be better than what we already have in that position and I''m not convinced he is.

Transfer fees are a complicated business of course. I''m sure part of the Snodgrass deal would have been reliant on Hull staying in the Premier League, as well as appearance fees and goals etc.

Of course the figures quoted to the press are also highly dubious - but that is a whole other argument.

I''m sure any players Norwich bring in will also be on fees dependant on a whole bunch of things also.

As for the ''British Player Premium'', that only really applies to clubs looking to get into or play in Europe who have to worry about stricter quotas. What will affect Norwich is the ''British Club Premium'' - even though they are relegated Hull are still one of the richest clubs in Europe (as is everyone who has been in the Premier League for a little while), they will demand higher fees for their players - especially as Norwich are also wonderfully wealthy (relatively).

There will be no more going into the Championship to pick up cheap players, the clubs there know all to well home much money is sloshing around and will want their cut of it.

SSN are reporting "Norwich have third bid of £3m for Hull midfielder Robbie Brady rejected with talks ongoing".

Looks like McNasty is struggling to come to terms with how the premier league has developed with even more money now sloshing about

The LB position certainly needs filling for the start of the season and once Olsson is back then it gives us more options in the LW position, plus of course back up LB if needed. If we can get him for £4-5m it would be good business imo, as he can play in two positions, so it could be said £2-£2.5m for a LB and the same for a LW. This would leave circa £15-17m available for other targets.

Two things where I can see the parallel doesn''t work.

Firstly, typically, but not always the case, as you go further forward in terms of position the more players typically cost.

Hence top strikers can go for £60million+ and yet so far, the best keepers are still costing around £10-20million.

For me, Snodgrass earned his fee for his goals and assists. He has also got the ability to take a set piece.

When you look at Brady, his stats in the premier league don''t really compare. I would draw more of a parallel with Olsson in that he is young and promising and so far has played more as a full back / wing back and his stats reflect that.

If we valued Olsson at the rumoured £4-6million we wanted West Brom to cough up, then why should Brady cost any different?

People banging on about £2.5-3million are living in the past. We have just seen a bang average full back go to Bournemouth for £8million, yes that may well have been over the odds but other teams will be wanting similar.

POSTING ON A HULL FORUM.

(From)

BBC Humberside Sport‏@HumbersideSport

"Further to reports, Hull City have confirmed they''ve rejected 3 bids from Norwich City for Robbie Brady. The last of which was £3m. #hcafc."

" Taking the piss."

They don''t seem to want to lose him, but if they do they would expect more than our offer.

Our bidding strategy does seem rather strange for a player who, reportedly, has a £7m price tag on his head, and has been touted for even more by the manager.

I am inclined to think that "Taking the piss," might be correct.

Looks like £5m, if at all, to me.

Any takers?
Think it is worth saying again;

Brady didn''t play one game for Hull as a full back. A wing back yes, but not a full back.

He did play there for Ireland though - but it certainly isn''t his favoured position.
You know that a wing back is full back and wide midfield rolled into one right?

Typically a wing back will prefer one of those two roles, as in they will prefer getting forward more or will be better defensively.

He has played left back before. I don''t think anyone is ignoring you, just commenting on his versatility really.

My point still stands if he is more of a winger his stats don''t compare favourably with Snodgrass.

IMO, Brady is a wide player who can also play at FB or WB. His shirt number at Hull is 11, which would seem to confirm that. Comparisons with Snodgrass are reasonable then. Brady''s valuation on Transfermarkt is £1.4m, whereas, in spite of his injury last season, Snodgrass has a valuation of £4.9m. Should we therefore be paying over the odds as Bournemouth certainly did with Tyrone Mings, whose Transfermarkt valuation is currently £2.1m? I think not.
YS72 - how does this Transfermarket valuation work then?

Mings is sold for £8m but this thing values him at £2.1m!
Someone sits at a desk and plucks some figures out of thin air.

A player is worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for him. No more, no less.If Hull think he is worth 7 million to them then they should make every effort to keep him. However, it doesn''t appear that anybody else is prepared to go anywhere near that price. If we have made our final offer then we should walk away because it never makes sense to exceed your own valuation.

Transfermarkt is basically a consulting organisation which works out a player''s ''asset value'' and then advises potential buyers and sellers on what might be a reasonable ''market price''. This depends on the length of contract left ( 2 years for Brady, whereas Snodgrass only had one year left when he left us). Another factor is the willingness of the seller to sell. Based on that, Brady''s ''asset value'' could be doubled for the extra year on his contract and perhaps half that again for Hull''s unwillingness to sell. That would put his current ''market value'' at around £4m. Should another club become interested, that could put the value up further, as would Brady signing a new contract, in which case City might well move on to other targets.

Given the fact that Brady is 23, there is probably another £1m or so for his potential, so I could see us going as high as £5m but I''d be disappointed if we went higher than that.

The prices quoted in the papers are usually way over any justifiable ''market value''.

Bournemouth definitely got screwed on Mings, who should have gone for around £4-5m IMO.

I think he''s worth £4.5m up front, with another oneish if we stay up.

Walk away.

There is nothing to Brady''s stats that suggest he''s worth anything near £3m.......and nothing that justifies being held to ransom over him.

There''s a more to a player''s worth than plain stats - they can be extremely misleading. IMO if he played most of their games last season, and AN wants him, then he''s good enough.

If he played most of their games last season, then stats or no stats, I''d want more than ''no goals and two assists'' if I was splashing out over £3m for a left-winger......

£7m is outrageous for someone who''s essentially a left sided utility player....not good enough defensively to be a full back....not good enough going forward to be classed as a winger, a Jim Brennan or Paul Heckingbottom if you like......which is probably why Hull deployed him as a wing back, which unless we''re going down that road, I dont see the point.

Hull are obviously trying to get their own back for being,by their own admission, overcharged for Snodgrass.

Stats don''t mean too much in a losing side at Hull - "The past doesn''t equal the future" does it? If Alex Neil can see his potential at a certain price, then he''ll probably get him...

Whilst I understand Brady''s versatility may be his attraction, I would be more enthused if Norwich were pursuing Mikail Antonio or Bakary Sako, in addition to a specialist left-back.

I watched him in the recent games against England and Scotland. He was EIRE''s best player by a mile. He is lightening quick, has a great left foot and still very young. He would be an excellent addition to the squad.
