Anyone for Rickie Lambert?

Recommended Posts

Would Lambert move in front of grabban, I think so a better finisher and full of passion.

But not sure I would have put him as a number 1 choice forward in our transfer thinking but suppose similar to the guy at celta Vigo

Also would be a leader on and off the pitch, we def need those characters

£3m for a player who has at best 1 season left in him at 33 is a lot of money when you add it to probably high wages. Looks like a panic buy too me. I would have been very excited if it had been 3 seasons ago

Jerome and Lambert as target man, supported by Hooper appears to be a credible combination of strikers. Lafferty, RvW and Grabban should be sold.

Three new starting defenders too and we may have a credible defence.

We couldnt have afforded him three seasons ago.

Yes - let''s change the successful system that we played last season and hope that a new one works! How ridiculous!

Lambert does not fit in with the system that AN prefers and as such will not be signed.

He''s 33 now and physically shot and slower, a disaster in the making imo.

That Celta Vigo bloke we were about to sign seemed quite different to anything we had in the team last season.

3 seasons to late!

if this is the height of the clubs ambitions we might as well not bother turning upeven if it was a free transfer then i still wouldnt want him, he certainly wont be earning chump change for warming up liverpools benchcant believe im typing it, but we would be better off sticking with the wolf

can think of a million risks wed be better off taking than this, like rhodes, austin, bamford, chris martin!, assombalonga, nahki wells, or even zach clopugh or che adams, probably no better than what we have but sure as hell cost less in wages and would most importantly BE HUNGRY!!!

If and I''m sure it''s a mighty big ''if'' this one happens then yes, I''m possibly in the minority who can see the sense in it.

More than a touch of the Super Grant about it, a leader, able to come in and make an impact even if he isn''t pkaying ninety minutes every week and is very much proven.

If lambert can play like he did at Southampton then this would be a great signing but after sitting on the bench for a year it maybe unlikely,he could do a job for us even if it''s only for a season or two lambert has never been the quickest of players but his positioning has always been very good and would give us a different option upfront and he knows the premier league so shouldn''t take long to settle it could be a good move. If he becomes a city player I would support him as much as any of our players.

The Mail today includes us on the scene

"West Brom and Norwich City will open talks with Rickie Lambert''s representatives this week after being given permission by Liverpool. No fee has been agreed but the Anfield club have made it clear they will not stand in Lambert''s way should he want to move on. Albion are looking to offer around £3million while Liverpool are hoping for something closer to the £4.5m they paid to sign him from Southampton last summer."

Whilst I think that he could do a useful job for us in the crucial season to come £4.5m is far too steep, and even £3m is stretching it a bit, IMO.

His wages will be highish so likely the money could be better used.

Lambert does not fit in with the system that AN prefers and as such will not be signed.[/quote]Last season AN had no need to deviate from his preferred system. Push the full backs high, have two mobile centre backs who can pull wide to fill the gaps they vacate, have a specialist DM (Tettey) who can drop back into central defence, and one up top with one just behind. It may have worked for four months in the Championship, but if you think we can stick with the same system for 38 games in the toughest league in the world and survive, I think you''re wrong. We''re going to need contingency plans.Despite his strict adherence to this system last season, I actually think AN will prove an adequate ''tinkerer'' – look at the Brentford home game, for example. Yeah we were pants and we lost (and the Whittaker experiment was a bit of a disaster!), but with three central midfielders out he knew he wasn''t going to be able to match Brentford''s passing style, so he played Hooper, Lafferty AND Jerome, and tried to play a more direct style to counteract. If you go into a Premier League season without a good target man, you''re asking for trouble – and Lambert is a good target man, no question. He''ll also come deep and link play, allowing an AM or second striker to gamble on the flicks/run beyond.

No way on this earth anyone will pay that, he''s 33 and just spent most of the season sat on the bench. Having just received £49m for Sterling, I''d be surprised if they didn''t accept about £2-2.5m.

Can''t understand any of the negativity about signing Lambert. He''s a right player. Great on the ball. Instinctive finisher. Proven at this level. 33 or not, if he''s good enough for AN, he''s good enough for me.

Please, let''s stop messing about and show some intent and ambition.

I would be happy with him and another striker but I''m just not convinced he is the complete deal we need. We have 3 or 4 chancers already so I feel we need a marquee signing here to spearhead it all. Perhaps if we get Lambert and then a quality attacking mid I''ll be happy.

Funny thing is, he was the best of a bad bunch at Liverpool so maybe there''s still a good year left in him. If he hits the heights of 2 years ago that got England interested. it''d be a masterstroke but I think it''s unlikely. He is about as close to replacing Holt as we''d get tho, him or Glen Murray.

Without someone to share the load with Jerome we will undoubtedly go down. At some point there will be a wider recognition that player valuations have already adjusted upwards to the new TV deal.
