It's time to redevelope Carrow Road

Recommended Posts

The club are in good financial shape now - much better than most clubs. We have just returned to PL football. I get that we lose a lot of money from the parachute payments but the club has hit the jackpot with promotion today. It needs expanding, there is demand for it, we have the money. There is no good reason why now is not a good time.Thoughts?

We seem to be forever delaying the expansion. If we are to establish ourselves as a Premier League club we need a bigger ground.

I agree we now should have a capacity equal to that of a Southampton or Leicester who historically have been similar sized clubs to us. Even the binners have a larger capacity.

Calm down chaps.

The £120million isn''t in our pockets yet, and never comes in one lump sum.

Also, Portaloo is a good example of why not to expand your stadium - when you can''t fill it.

It''s a very fine edge to look at economically. They have to be sure that they will get the money back they spend on it.

Where as, for example, £30million on players, may be something that keeps us in the league next season and beyond and earns us another £120million.

It''s a really tough decision and one that shouldn''t be based upon the back of a Wembly play-off final one off game.

IMHO anyway.

Whenever the subject comes up it''s always argued that we''ll harm our playing budget and that the costs outweigh the benefits. On the first point we''d never ever expand if we were perpetually afraid of losing playing budget. On the second, it''s not all about money, it''s also about having a better atmosphere, being better able to accomodate our own fans and attracting new fans.Note that the benefits are difficult to quantify monetarily, as opposed to the costs (eg labour, building materials) which are easier to tot up. The benefits may well be greater than what many might anticipate.Surely we could afford to stash away some of the TV money? We''ve lost £5m or so on RVW, so imagine if we were quite frugal in our transfers, avoiding costly mistakes, and bunged say £3m in the bank each season. Then we could be sat in a 35k stadium in 10 years time. The club is over-obsessed with money to the extent that those running it aren''t enthusiastic about the Europa League and are reluctant to expand the stadium to cater for our fanbase. We need to balance the infamous prudence with a bit more pride and ambition, otherwise it''ll just be about money as opposed to enjoying the football.

Lets see where we are this time next year. Need a new pitch, and at least 4 quality players added to this squad. If we do anything to the ground, I''d actually suggest we switch the TV camera positions to the main stand side - will look to the outside world that we''ve a;ready redeveloped :-)
