Bethnal Yellow and Green 1,557 Posted June 3, 2015 Have a feeling Toffolo will be sold - he was making some comments about wanting regular first team football soon and that isn''t going to happen at Norwich in the foreseeable future.
ZLF 261 Posted June 3, 2015 Thats the footballers lot so the youngsters should get used to the club looking at other talented players. This does looks like a signing for a good champs team. hard to judge whether toffolo or purrington is the better prospect and not sure either is ready for a prem slot.I still want the main premise to be that any signings we make this summer will improve our first team. I do want to see us linked to some prem quality; although we may not hear about them until pen has met paper given recent history.

kick it off 1,927 Posted June 3, 2015 I was under the same impression Morty, there''s been talk of a new deal and possibly being in and around the first team next season coming from Toffolo in the last week or so
Bethnal Yellow and Green 1,557 Posted June 3, 2015 Ah, maybe the stuff I was think of was older than that. The club took up the option on his contract to extend it to 2016 - but that might have been just to potentially get a better fee for him if selling was the plan.Norwich only have one left back who has played football above League One at the moment - to be honest not sure if I would want Toffolo or this Plymouth fella as the back-up. But it was along the lines of that Harry will be back with us, and he is very much part of the managers plans.Which could mean, of course, that he runs the rule over him in the summer, and makes a decision then.It would be really nice to see a few more home grown products making it here. Tetteys Jig 830 Posted June 3, 2015 The thing is, i''m not sure I want us to go buy someone to be purely backup left back. Who is going to want to join us that is any better than Toffolo anyway if they know they won''t play much?We also have Whittaker who can do a job there and Miquel is supposed to be able to as well but i wasn''t convinced when I saw him at Preston. If we''re going to sign back up players, they will need to cover more than just left back. Not sure I would like this if Olsson were to suffer and injury early Sept.As for the likes of Miquel or whits covering, i would prefer specialists and whit move would mean a full back 4 reshuffle given current personnel. i would like a little more experience than any of these options, hence my earlier comment that I dont think either are quite ready
The Great Wall Of Tettey 0 Posted June 3, 2015 not sure about all this seeming negativity around signing players from lower leagues. I''ve no doubt that the majority of our squad have enough experience, but got to remember Johnson/hoolahan/Martin all started in lower leagues? We will sign the quality and cover we need for this season. Have some faith

It''s cause and effect - you have to engender an environment where you default to trusting your academy players. One or two in the squad would be no bad thing in my opinion - whether that''s Toffolo, Morris, King, Hall-Johnson or someone even younger. With experienced players around them, I doubt they would be a complete liability. Pick the ones with the most mature attitudes, coach them as adults with the first team and you won''t go far wrong. ZLF 261 Posted June 3, 2015 One of the elements of perspective that this season provided me was how much Josh Murphys inexperience showed. He was THE star of the youth cup team and while show glimpses of what he can become when appearing for the first team, most of his appearances confirmed that he was not ready for regular champs, let alone prem football, with us.If Josh was not ready then I can understand why others have not been played - the managers see the relative strengths against the seasoned pros and I have every confidence that if alex thinks they are good enough we will / would have already seen them. We do have talent coming through - but as they are not at the level that the club is playing then we should get them experience elsewhere - that redmond is still only 21 with c150 pro appearance in 5 years behind him shows that experience counts. Paul101 91 Posted June 3, 2015 iam sorry but buying young players to train up and sell in the future is not the right thing to do ?????? are you mad the guy is 19 he doesn''t take a squad place and if he has the potential we strike early like we did with Redmond if by chance in two to three years we double our money or more its win win
Miss Bum Bum 0 Posted June 3, 2015 This is a bloody outrage typical mcnasty all that money and he shops in the bargain basement. I suppose we need to save money to pay for his excessive bonus
Indy 3,232 Posted June 3, 2015 I do find this link very confusing as we have our own highly rated player who performed very well in a league higher. Can''t get too excited as its only agent & paper talk.

I just think the club should follow through on its investment in the academy - we acquired the top status in the country, won the FAYC and none of those players bar Josh have had any significant first-team experience. It takes a switch in philosophy - NCFC''s current philosophy seems to be that playing a youth player is too much of a risk when we could be using experienced players (save for a few bench spots for Morris/Loza ahead of Becchio). We should look to buy top-quality players, of course, but I''d really like to see Neil trust in our academy in the future. If he''s decided none of the current crop are good enough then of course I trust his judgement, but as a club why invest so heavily in the academy if none of the players we''re producing are deemed ''good enough'', despite winning the FAYC? Surely that is proof enough that the quality is there? I''m aware that there is a bit of a cause/effect Catch-22 here, but it just seems strange that despite the investments and results at youth level nobody is being given a chance to make the step up. I guess I''d just love to see us unearth our own Bale/Walcott/Shaw/Ward-Prowse, and you have to take a gamble to reap the rewards...
Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 3,703 Posted June 3, 2015 The source for this story is very flimsy, and I think the likelihood of this one coming off is less than zero.As has been said, it doesn''t make any sense when we have Toffolo waiting in the wings. It may be a bit too soon to have him as our second choice left back, because as has been mentioned, if Olsson was to get injured in September, is Toffolo a Premier League left back? Same applies to the forgotten man Miquel.I''d say we need a new left back to cover for Olsson, but one who could realistically challenge for a first team place would cost millions, as Olsson is, for me, the best player we have pound-for-pound, in terms of the level which they could be playing at. I''d go for a cheap, experienced option who wouldn''t mind being patient.
