Lineup V Coventry

Recommended Posts

With players leaving rather than coming, and with Jonsson now gone, how has it affected the team? I believe a new formation is in order, shamelessly copying Chelsea, but who cares? (Yes I know we may get a new player or two in, but even so I think this team could give anyone this season a good game)

                              Green

Louis-Jean    Shackell        Doc      Drury

             Jarrett       Safri       Francis

                Mckenzie        Huckerby

                            Ashton

Subs - Ward, Fleming, Mcveigh, Jarvis, Brennan

With Mckenzie and hucks running at defences A la Robben and Duff I really think we could be far too much for some teams. Safri can stay back and play a Makelele role, with francis being our lampard, and shackell doing his best JT impressions. All we need now is a bit less modesty from NW and we are onto a winner!

Any Thoughts?

At the present rate we''ll be struggling to field 11 professionals in their best positions. I believe we
are now down to 13 fit outfield players. What ever
is going on?

No apology needed  - with the squad shaped as it is a 4-3-3/4-3-2-1 is the only realistic option - playing 4-4-2 means we are not playing to our strengths and have to drop one of the better players.

Its too soon to say whether this will be theline up as I am sure that we will get a couple more players before the 6th and hopefully a few more before the transfer window closes and the player merry go round finally starts.

What is it they say - fools seldom differ?

Just to be a bit different, I think charlie could prove invaluable this season as I think he reads the game very well and could help Doherty and Shackell in this respect.

Actually make that Mcveigh/Hughes/Charlton on the bench, depending on whether we are playing home or away. Charlie can come in for the doc if he doesnt prove upto it.

GK - Green Ward Lewis

Defenders - MLJ, Colin, Fleming, Doc, Shacks, Charlie, Drury. (Cover - Brennan, Hughes)

Midfielders - Hucks, Brennan, Damo, Safri, JJ, Marney, Hughes, Mcveigh, Henderson (Cover - Charlie, MLJ)

That is one quality squad.

NY canary - Flem isnt injured, its just that most people, including myself, dont see him as a first choice player this season.

Shackell is clearly first choice after his end of season performances, then it is between Charlie, the doc and Flem to be his centre back partner. The doc has lost weight, and being an ireland international has obviously got a lot of talent so IMO he should get to start against coventry, and if he does not perform we have two experienced players in Fleming and Charlton to back them up! I put charlie on the bench ahead of flem due to the fact he has impressed in midfield in the pre-season friendlies and is therefore a pretty versatile player, given his preference of left-back as well.

trent -- thanks for the update on flem.i wouldn''t argue against trying shack/doc but i think it will be flem. NW wants that steadiness in a team that basically has an almost entirely new midfield. as the season progresses, maybe we will see more of the Doc but my bet is flem will start.the most interesting battle to me will be jarrett/hughes/safri fighting for the two midfield spots (assuming that francis is gone and if not, an even more intruiguing situation).

This will be the line-up Worthy will pick...without a doubt...I''m not exactly saying it would be my choice but should still be good...

        -----------  Greeno  -------------

MLJ ----  Fleming  ----  Shackell  ---- Drury

             -----   Charlton   -----

  Marney -------  Jarrett  -------  Huckerby

     ------ McKenzie  ---  Ashton ------

Bench:  Ward, Thorne, Colin, Hughes, Safri/Doc (depending how fit Safri is...)

Now that the midfield is a little bit clearer I think we will see

Green

Louis-Jean  Flem  Shacks  Drury

Hendo   Hughes   Jarret   Hux

           Deano      Leon (Thorne ifLeon injured)

Subs

Ward   Colin  Marney  Doc  Thorne/Jarvis

I cant see Flem being dropped despite my personal wishes and feel it is unlikely that Marney will come straight into the side.  Safri will need a match or so before he gets back in to the squad.

It does look good with the exception of the right midfield.

I''d go with-

Green

Colin, Shackell, Doherty, Charlton

Marney, Jarrett, Safri (if fit - if not then Hughes), Huckerby

McKenzie, Ashton

Subs: Ward, McVeigh/Thorne, Hughes, Drury, MLJ

I think Worthy will definitely start the season with Fleming and Drury though! He also said that Colin has ''potential'' so I should imagine MLJ will get the nod at the beginning of the season! If we could get one more quality midfielder with the money from Francis (if he goes) - possibly Kommons or Mawene, we would have such a great squad!
