Russell Martin new 3 year contract! JOKE!

Recommended Posts

Whilst everything is pretty rosey in the NCFC garden WHY would we award this man a three year contract!  He is only JUST in his depth in the Championship......But way below what is needed in The Premier League.Poor Poor Decision.......

Three years?  Maybe five would have been more appropriate.

Model professional, good captain and club captain, and more than good enough in the PL under Lambert and Houghton 1st season.  Going up or not, he is an asset to our team and our club.

To be fair he''s not looked great at RB this season and he''s caught out more often than you''d like at CB it''s just he doesn''t always get punished but would in the prem.

Just hasn''t hit the heights of a couple of seasons back.

I smell troll.
Why don''t you share your views on his limitations and then tell us why you don''t feel he deserves the contract?  "Not good enough" will not be, er, good enough.  Give us some detail please.

Very pleased for him, an absolute gent and am proud to call him our club captain - I got the impression from him that he genuinely bleeds yellow and green just like (most) of us. Well deserved, I hope he goes on to work for the club when he eventually retires. And I''ll bet you now he pops up with a crucial goal in one of the next (hopefully) 5 games, he''s due one!

Can anyone confirm that there is someone in the Jarrold Stand who appears to have his head up his own bottom?I''ve sat in the Jarrold, and the view I get is no where near as obscured. I have tried seeing things from your point of view VFTJ. But I''m not as supple as I once was.Russ Martin is more than worth the three years - it will take him to 32 which is no massive age. As he has already shown, he has been more than able in the premier league and at this level. His calmness and ability to stand up and be counted when it is most needed.Again, people with no sense spouting nonsense. Our current defense: Whittaker (30 - 31 in June), Ryan Bennett (25), Michael Turner (31), Javier Garrido (30), Cuellar (33-34 in August), Bassong (28 - 29 in July), Russell Martin (29), Martin Olsson (26 - 27 in May).As usual, I may have missed one out and have left out the youngsters. That is 8 players. Of that 8, four are our first choice in Bassong, Olsson, Martin and Whittaker at this point in time. If you are suggesting any players going or keeping some players over others - the current first choice is where you start. The reality is that we will more than likely allow Cuellar to go when his contract runs out in the summer. I would also think question marks will remain over the likes of Garrido and Turner if we are promoted. If Martin remains as a centre back option I can see another RB being brought in. If promoted and Garrido and Turner are unwilling to stay to play second fiddle, and who could blame them, then that would be another two. So three players from 8 to go and three replacements to be found. That just underlines how crazy you would be to not try and keep hold of one of our most reliable and consistant defenders for the last 3-4 seasons.Nuts.Also, how many posts? TROLL.

This post is living proof that some bellend will come up with any negative post. Can''t criticise anything else because everything else is good at the moment.

So let''s have a go at something.

ViewfromtheJarrold,

It appears you have very few (if any) supporters of your view and I am certainly not one.

I''m sure you have read what our manager had to say, but just in case you didn''t, I''ll post it here;

“Russ has been great for the club ever since he joined and for me, since I came in,” said manager Alex Neil.

“He’s got plenty of experience and he’s a versatile player, who does a great job for you in the centre of defence or at full-back if he’s asked to play there."

“He’s at a good age at 29 and coming into the peak of his powers as a player, so we’re delighted to secure his services for another three years with this new deal."

“Russ is an excellent captain, both for the players as somebody they can trust and talk to on and off the pitch – and for me as the manager to talk to as well."

“He’s a model professional who conducts himself superbly and a role model for other players, particularly the younger ones, to look up to.”

I reckon there are around 15 reasons AN has given as to WHY we would award him a three year contract, I read it twice just to make sure, but I couldn''t find ONE reason WHY we wouldn''t.

Another point you may be missing, is that he may be being groomed as part of the management team.

R.Martin has looked good at centre-back under Alex Neil. His mobility and experience at full-back make him well suited to the type of game which Neil wants to play (high-pressing, high defensive line, centre-backs covering attacking full-backs).
His biggest issue at the moment is that he can perhaps dwell on the ball when attempting to pass out the back which can invite unnecessary pressure, but that''s a risk you have to accept if you want a team that is going to attempt to build attacks from their own defence.

The line about on and off the pitch is useful, as I hope he keeps the odd secret between sources so as to not rock the boat but handles it well on both sides. Say player b wants more football and thinks player a should be dropped. He tells RM that who relays on to the manager in the best format so as to not make player b look like a dick but to not undermime the manager or player a

Dundee comes out of the closet yesterday and today this butt hole starts a new account.

He''s laughing at the long thoughtful replies because he doesn''t care about the answer, just that he''s got some fooled.

Ignore him.
Great news! I wish we had 2 of him!
Or even 3 of him ! he epitomises professionalism on and off the field, and anyone who doubts his temperament, remind yourself of his reaction to being booked last week against Sheff Wed, that reinforced for me his desire and passion for the cause, what a man !!

Russell Martin could well be a future manager at NCFC; in the meantime, as an international player he is well worth a 3 year contract. Good listener, admirable values, well-groomed, emotionally intelligent, fine example. The world needs far more of his type...

A response is needed!

Firstly as previously quantified I never have and never want to be the England manager - But then I don''t need to to express an opinion on team selection/players ability the last time I checked...........Its what football fans do!

Secondly I am not a troll, I do not live under a bridge, although I do have a bit of a bulbous nose!

Thirdly there appears to be a bit of a misconception here that your opinion is judged on how many posts you have made....those with less posts ''must'' be a troll and therefore their opinion is worthless whereas if you are a sad spotty delinquent 15 year old who spends all day on the internet looking at porn and ''The Pink un'' posting 3,123 times, your opinion is much more worthwhile.......Interesting!

Now onto Russell Martin.

I fail to see the big love in for our ''Captain''.  I am not judging him on seasons past, whether he is an ''absolute gent'' or whether he ''bleeds yellow & green'' - I am judging him on whether he can do a First Team Captains Job in the Premier League and the evidence this year suggests not.

Too often he is found wanting, out of position and failing to win that first ball, that first header that needs to be won so that our midfield grafters can win that second ball and begin to build our next attack.  His tackling is bordering on laughable as he runs alongside his man until he reaches close the danger area then places a last ditch challenge in which ''looks'' great BUT an earlier tackle would have been a better choice.  In addition to that he has a frustrating knack of ''pointing'' and not acting.  A number of times this season he has been caught out and rather than tryinbg to rectify his mistakes he points and suggests the mistake is not his own.....most recently Huddersfield (And Gibraltar!!) are good examples.

His failings have been less noticeable since Seb Bassong has com His come into the side, that I accept, but still he is NOT a Premier league defender and as such should not have been given an additional 3 years.

He has in the past been reliable and efficient but we are not in the charity business, we should give extended contracts to players who can do the job where we want to be in the Premier League.  Lucrative extended contracts should not be given to average championship players because they are a ''good ole boy'' or as is ridiculuosly stated they ''bleed yellow & green''.

Let me assure you if Russell Martin is a first choice centre back in the Premier League next year then we have a massive problem (Assuming of course we get there) - And it is for that reason he should not have been given a Three Year Extension.

Sounds to me like your view is from the Jarrolds Café rather than the Jarrold Stand.  I don''t recognise your description of his defending.
Russell Martin has also demonstrated he is happy to be a squad player so if we brought in "genuine" premiership centre backs, he would still be a model pro and step up if/when needed.  Keeping him here for another three years is a good decision, economically and in terms of squad harmony/morale.

And we aren''t in the Premier league yet.It makes good business sense to renew contracts now, rather than in the summer.

Response from a minor poster......

View from you are entitled to your opinion, and the forum is for all Norwich City fans to debate all things their club, personally I preferred RM as a right back, he is determined to play CB and our manager and his national manager continue to pick him there, so I must bow to their superior knowledge.

A bit like my mum, when she went to my brothers passing out parade, she noticed that he was the only one out of 300 new recruits who was marching in time, the rest were all out of step, a bit like your post seems to be out of step with the general consensus on here.

My mum was wrong on that occasion by the way, maybe you are maybe your not, so don''t take it all too personal.

Viewfromthejarrold you are CORRECT.. firstly Delia bleeds yellow and green and I hear she is a lovely person so lets get her in the squad, clearly showing passion for your team is the most important part of a players makeup, or is their ABILTY?

Martin or as I like to call him '' The parallel Man '' is more often than not found wanting, he is easily beaten by decent strikers and wingers to boot, he very rarely puts a tackle in and I sit in a position that I get to see close up, strikers from the past will always comment on the great defenders during their time and they will say '' he always put a tackle in early on to tell you he is there '' why is it Martin NEVER does this, why did he get an ironic cheer from fans around me against Arsenal when he slid on the ground to kick a ball out for a throw in? I will tell, BECAUSE HE GOT HIS KNEES DIRTY, not bad considering it was the LAST game of the season.

He gets beaten and instead of tracking back he points randomly at something or someone, Whittaker gave him a gob full against Shef Wed because once again he was out of position and he had the gall to point at Whits and complain.

He speaks to the ref in a half hearted manner 5 minutes after the event, and in my opinion lacks the quality to make himself known on a football pitch.

I''m not saying he is the worse player we have but a team captain ? someone you want in your back four for another 3 years ?

Why is he never injured? maybe he has something to do with the fact he does not get involved, if you spend 90 minutes getting no where near anyone you probably wont get injured will you ?

Lets be honest with the oppostion we have faced this season an average defender will look ok in our team, it''s no surprise we got better when Seb came back is it?

If we go up your opinion will soon change.

In a nut shell Martin is not the worse defender we have ever had, but surely we need better, he has shown us over the last few seasons he is a half decent Championship defender, nothing more.
