A 'Good' Defeat?

Recommended Posts

Yes the title of this thread seems completely wrong, but on reflection this defeat could turn out to do us a favour.

Despite defeat, we haven''t really lost ground in the race for automatic promotion points wise, 4 points off top isn''t exactly a disaster. We lost to a team not challenging bus in the table. Other teams wIll have similar results.

However, we have been brought back down to earth. We are not invincible. Teams won''t role over. No matter where teams are in the league they will fight tooth and nail for 3 points.

Maybe we took Wigan for granted, but we can guarantee that the same mistake won''t be made twice. Next time we won''t have a team thinking that the hard work was at the weekend and the midweek game is a formality. I trust AN will drill this into the players, even more so after last night and we wont see the same mistake on Saturday.

Or maybe I''m just desperate to turn last night into a positive?

Better to lose to Wigan, than a rival but still a great opportunity thrown away.

With only 11 games left a point would have been better psychologically in terms of maintaining our unbeaten run. A kick up the kyber in the form of a loss would maybe have had the desired effect if we had more games left, but at this stage the manager will be kicking himself for not parking the bus.
