Recently been a real threat in front of goal. Goals and near misses.  Against Forest a terrific strike from distance and the goal he scored was first class.  He had a lot to do to turn a pass that was nearly beyond him into a goal scoring opportunity.  His first touch with his left foot was sublime to get the ball into the best possible position to strike the ball.  Composure, confidence and skill.   Super goal and this season looking like the  player we all expected to see when he first came to Norwich.

From where I was sitting in Jarold it looked like he was about 9/10 yards from the goal when he scored ?

Yes, I was talking about the good strike earlier in the game from distance..........the goal itself was of course scored from just outside the goalkeeper''s area.

Like many other players in the team he seems a far better player under the guidance of Alex Neal.

Howson is now playing as well as any time that he has been with us.

As LDC said he rarely gives the ball away, scores goals and can play in a number of positions accross the midle of the park

AN clearly basis his teams on a strong midfield and you can see why he likes players such as Howson, Johnson, O''Neil & Dorrans as they can slot in, in 2/3 positions

Great cheeky finish from Howson. he''s developed a lot this season and starting to be the industrious midfield threat we know he can be.

That''s twice recently when a very good goal by Howson has changed the game for us. Once again we were huffing and puffing and not setting the world alight, but after his goal we found confidence again.

As I said before, if the context is taken into consideration, that''s twice when he has scored, and we have six points which we might not have had.

He is genuinely two footed, he has quick acceleration, and he rarely mishits a pass.

I think that he is a very good all round player. I was amazed to hear that he had only his hundredth game on Saturday, in his absences we have missed a very useful player.

Agree with Howson arriving in the box like he does, his goals (also from outside the box, ie Milwall) can unlock stubborn defences, suits the AN way, raised his level recently IMO.

When you look across our midfield now, with Johnson, Dorrans, Tettey and Howson, you see a stronger and cohesive force that has been lacking for a long time.  Howson has matured and looks more confident in that, as does Johnson and its no wonder that Wes is doing better as well with those four behind him.  Even without Tettey we have good options in the way of Redmond, O''Neil and others who have yet to fully make their mark.  The midfield area, so long a problem is functioning much better.  A joy to watch some of the goals we have seen this season from players who have been in the team for the last three seasons at least - but only really finding their scoring touch this season.

Nobody has played as consistently well as he has since he has been at the club.

Quality, quality player.

He played well under Lambert and people were saying he could have an England career.

Then the next incumbent came in and played him massively out of position. Right Wing, holding midfield.....Good old clueless chris

Neil has been playing Howson on the right recently. It was very notable against both Derby and Forest.
And Lambert played Howson at the base of a midfield diamond in a couple of games.

Fans have been wrong too...far too many want(ed) him to play in the Wes, more advanced position when that''s never been his correct or most influential position.

But yes, Howson has been fantastic. A very reliable member of the team. Not usually eye catching but never disappointing.

Exactly. Howson''s biggest attribute is his ability to drive forward with the ball at his feet in central areas. This works best when he has more space to run into so a deeper position suits him far better than a number 10. role.

Small coaching point:

His goal against Forest was an excellent example of one of the reasons why you teach strikers to aim for the far post...

...he actually is trying to poke it there and miscues into the near post. (When going for near post you typically miscue further left).

Could be considered bit fortunate, but the product of good percentages. Much like Howson as a player.

Well I''ve looked at it several times as a result of what you say and I don''t see what you see.  I see a player just a few yards out decisively taking the shortest route to goal - straight ahead.   The goalkeeper maybe expecting a shot across him and Howson fooling him by shaping to hit across him but hitting it straight in at the near post.   You might be right, but to me what he did looks decisive and intentional.

Howson is more right midfield than right wing. Bit of a difference.

More freedom when playing in the centre under this manager. The reins are off.
