  1. Watford Vs Norwich away at Vicarage Road, kick off 8pm (GMT) tonight. Referee: Mike Dean Videos: Articles: The usual BBC pre match article can be found here. The Pinkun Presser article can be found here. The club pre match article can be found on their website, here. Ins, Outs, Shake it all abouts: Norwich: Krul is out after injuring his shoulder against Everton, he is due further assessments to determine how long for. Zimmermann is to play with the development squad today to step up his own comeback from injury. Aarons and Williams are good to go again after coming off against Everton appearing to have injuries. McLean also returns after completing his period of isolation. Normann, Gilmore, Rupp and Omobamidele all remain out with injuries but it is hoped that they will be back in time for the Wolves cup match at the start of Feb. Watford: Imran Louza, Adam Masina and William Troost-Ekong are all away on Africa Cup of Nations duty. Etebo and Baah remain unlikely as they progress back from injury. A Little Bit of Knowledge: Apparently the club recognises it's foundation date as being 1881, the date that Watford Rovers was founded. They then became West Herts, but their fortunes slumped for a bit and a nearby team, Watford St. Mary's were actually fairing better. As a result, the two teams decided to amalgamate and form Watford FC in April 1898. Graham Taylor was arguably Watfords most important manager, managing them from 1977-1987 - a reign that saw them go from the old fourth division to the old first division. He'd also managed them two further times after that as well as Aston Villa and England. This evening, Watford plan a tribute to their former manager, details of which can be found here. He passed away five years ago today and their fans are being asked to hold their scarves aloft for this - it would be awesome to see Norwich fans joining in. Pups for the CSF: @nutty nigel is as awesome as ever and has the Pups for the CSF thread going like clockwork here. Something Extra:
  2. Away fixture at the London Stadium, Kick off 19:45(gmt). Videos: Articles: The BBC have their usual pre match piece that can be found here. The pinkun have articles in the run up to the game with the pre match presser one of them which can be found here. Club preview from canaries.co.uk, this week with Dean Smith. Ins, outs, shake it all abouts: West Ham: Benrahma (Africa Cup of Nations), Zouma (recovering from hamstring injury), Norwich: Gilmore (3-4 weeks, ankle), Rupp (injured), Normann (rehabilitation from hip injury), Cantwell could be back in the squad for today. No new injury concerns from the weekends FA cup game. A little bit of knowledge: West Harm first formed under the name of Thames Ironworks in 1895. This is where the nickname of the "irons" derives from along with the reason for the crossed hammers on their club badge which is the source of their other well known nickname - the "Hammers". They became West Ham in July 1900. They moved from the Boleyn Ground in 2016 to the London Stadium that was constructed as part of the London 2012 Olympics. I actually took a stadium tour the last day they were available prior to the demolition starting proper, a tour that took us to parts of the ground previously not on the tour because there was no reason for any confidentiality or secrecy. It was very weird and eerie, a ground with such history for English football, not just the club itself, not only standing empty, but in a state of being taken apart in front of your eyes. The tour guides even said that there was nothing left that the club wanted so to help yourself to things - apart from the seats which I think were being auctioned off. Used sports bottles in the changing rooms, loose tiles.. it was like a house clearance, though no one really took them up on it. My maternal side of the family hails from the East End with my grandfather having been a dyed in the wool West Ham fan, probably added to the occasion knowing it had been a ground he regularly visited throughout his life, making it a bit of a pilgrimage. There have been plenty of links between the clubs over the years for various reasons, Robert Green and Dean Ashton both moving to West Ham from Norwich, Snodgrass also found his way there after a stint at Hull. Mark Bowen also moved to West Ham after becoming a firm fans favourite at Norwich. Did Norwich do so well in the other direction? Well, Martin Peters famously started his career with West Ham, some longer in the tooth supporters will remember signing Tony Cottee from them in Sept 2000... probably not the best memory of players coming this direction. Perhaps more worthy of note alongside Peters is Ken Brown who spent the majority of his playing days at West Ham and who managed Norwich from 1980-1987. Some folks who can recall that time better than I (I wasn't into double figures by the time he left) have expressed that his tenure at Norwich was felt years after and was a contributing factor to the success of the club in the last few years of the '80's and into the early '90's including the European run. Pups for the CSF: A West Ham special this week from @nutty nigel so why not get involved whilst you still can? Something extra: Jonathan Rowe signs a new contract with Norwich: U18's match highlights Vs Crystal Palace: Oh, and Happy Birthday ZIMBO!!!
  3. Home Fixture, Carrow Road, 7.45pm(GMT) kick-off, for those not in the same time zone... No quotes this time out... probably due to lack of time between fixtures. Videos: Articles: The BBC take on tonight's fixture. The usual PinkUn presser report on this evenings game. Canaries.co.uk official club preview. Ins, Outs, Suspensions: Norwich: Outs - Hanley joins Zimmermann, Rashica, Omobamidele and Normann on the injury list for this game. Tzolis remains to be isolating with Covid-19. Ins - Williams comes back after being ineligible Vs Man Utd. Byram featured on the bench for the last game as well so has progressed in his comeback. EDIT: Rupp, PLM and Sargent appear to be out either injured or with Covid, more on that later. Aston Villa: Outs - Two unnamed Villa players have tested positive for Covid-19 and will miss tonight's game. Marvelous Nakamba is out injured with a knee injury. Ins - none that I can find. A little bit of knowledge: Aston Villa were founded in 1874 by members of a cricket team looking to keep their side together in the winter months outside of the cricket season. The club name derives from two aspects of local geography. Aston is taken from the district they are in, which in turn comes from the older 'Estone' meaning East Hill. The Villa aspect derives from the cricket team of the founding members - Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel. Their original nickname was "lions" after their club crest and then later "villans", a play on words with the club name (note it is not "villains"). Pups for the CSF: Same thread as Saturday I believe, please correct me if I am wrong @nutty nigel.
  4. As the bottom of the image says in teeeny tiny writing - Home fixture at Carrow Road, kick off 5.30pm(GMT). Hopefully that means more of the US based fans will be able to watch without having to plan for getting up too early or going to bed too late. I tend to get all of these from the clubs official social media pages on facebook/twitter. Since Dean Smith has arrived they seem to like throwing up quotes. This week we've had at least two: Videos: Player of the Month - November Articles: The BBC have their weekly preview to games. The PinkUn always cover the pre match presser with Dean Smith. This week, the club have also done a little piece themselves with Grant Hanley. Ins, outs and suspensions Norwich: Out - Tzolis(isolating with covid), Zimmermann(ankle injury), Williams (ineligible, loan), Normann(injury), Rashica(groin injury), Byram(on comeback trail, next target is 90mins with development squad), there is also another case of covid and possibly two players with injuries being assessed at this time. In: No news in that sense, Cantwell was on the bench last time out, Giannoulis too, both will be in contention to start owing to injuries and ineligibility. Man Utd: Out - Martial, possibly Matic(illness), possibly Wan-Bissaka due to clash with advertising hoardings Vs Young Boys midweek. A little bit of knowledge Man Utd are considered the most successful English club having won 20 top tier league titles, 11 FA Cups, 3 Champions League titles and 1 club world cup. They were the first English club to win the European Championship in 1968 and the first to win a "treble" of titles in 1999 of the Premier League title, FA Cup and Champions League. Famously called the "Red Devils" after their badge, it wasn't until the 1930's that they settled on their strip of red shirts and white shorts. They were founded in 1878 as Newton Heath L&YR F.C and became Man Utd in 1902. As well as 1902 being important to Norwich City fans too, they originally played in yellow and green which is why man Man Utd fans took to yellow and green scarves in protest of the Glaziers ownership of the club. Pups for the CSF @nutty nigel's Rays funds for the CSF with the PUPs is of course back for another week and can be found here. Post Match Ricardo's post match write up for home games returns for this one.
  5. Just seen this via twitter and the talk Norwich City crew: A little bit of knowledge: Spurs famous home strip of white shirts and navy/dark blue shorts has been present since the 1898-99 season. Founded in 1882 they remain to be the only non-league club to have won the FA cup, back in 1901, since the football league was founded. They were also the first team to win the League and FA Cup double in the 1960-61 season and then the first British club to win a UEFA Club Competition in 1963 - the European Cup Winners Cup. PUPs for the CSF As is now part of weekly routine - please go check out Rays Funds for the CSF with the PUPs Season 15 Week 17 and help raise some dosh for a great cause. Also, very much worth taking a look at @nutty nigel's post for some more info on how that is changing in terms of part of it's name. Special shout out this week to @KiwiScot who started the thread earlier in the week - thank you!
  6. As the image says, Norwich City FC Vs Wolves, KO 3pm GMT. Rainbow Laces Our club continues to support all people of all backgrounds - I for one am proud of the longstanding history they have in this regard. To make things easier for you the link goes to a great article from the club (which you can find by clicking on that text). Which reminds me, I really do need to get myself a set of those laces... Match build-up articles: A look at the opposition from our own club. The regular presser article highlighting the interview with Dean Smith from the Pink'Un. As is the norm, the BBC also have a write up looking ahead to the game. Injuries, suspensions and returns: Norwich: Zimmermann is the only player out injured now. Byram is stepping up his return with the U23's to get back to match fitness and sharpness. Dowell returns after having an illness. Wolves: Neto, Mosquera and Jonny are all long term injury absentees, Willy Boly ruled out with a muscle injury. Something to keep an eye on: We are not yet in December but it would appear that some of our players are already receiving cards from referees. It's fair to say some are more popular in that regard than others. The official premier league website outlines the rules: From what I can make out in this regard, using the same source as above, Normann is currently on 4 yellow cards and should he receive one today, he will be suspended for our next game. That games is away to Newcastle on Tuesday evening (broadcast on Amazon Prime for those that have it). Video At this point I would usually share the "all the goals" video but for some reason, I can't find it anywhere other than facebook even though it has the Canaries TV logo on it which usually means it is also on youtube. However, it doesn't seem to be there. Edit: better late than never I guess?!! ***NEW*** Post Match It occurred to me whilst reading a regular forum member's post match write up that I could also throw in some post match links to things such as highlights, interviews and write ups. As I have created a tag for the threads, my hope is if people want to look up information on past games they can just search the tag and look for the corresponding fixture. So to kick it off, as is now time honoured tradition, and if you don't already - have a look at @ricardo's match write up here. Post match interview with Dean Smith Post match interview with Tim Krul BBC post match article including alternative interview with Dean Smith. I don't advocate relying upon any one set of stats for a game but the BBC's from the linked article report these: Extended Highlights:
  7. Norwich City Vs Southampton KO - 3PM, at Carrow Road. 13/38. And the graphic for our international fans once more - please ignore that it is for our last game Vs Brentford, they haven't done one for today for some reason: Pre match articles: As is part of our weekly routine, the PinkUn have their presser report as well as other articles reflecting on things brought up during it. The BBC always have an article as well which covers some other aspects from a Southampton point of view. This week we also have a treat from the canaries.co.uk club site taking a look at the Southampton side we will be facing today. Round up of injuries/suspensions etc: Norwich - Zimmermann is now the only player out injured. Byram played 45mins in the U23's game Vs Charlton last night and at this point reports are he came through fine. Kabak and Hanley are fit and in contention. As Smith said, clean slate for all of the squad now. Southampton - Redmond back after being out with Covid - which no matter which side you are on, is only a good thing. Livramento and Ward-Prowse also return from having had injuries. Their only player out injured now is Jack Stephens. Video: The official NCFC youtube channel has their usual pre match build up vid highlighting all of the goals we have scored against Southampton over the years - Something interesting: Southampton FC was founded on 21st November 1885, 136 years ago tomorrow. Their nickname has been the "Saints" since their inception due to them starting out as a church football team. The team name back then was called the St. Mary's Church of England Young Men's Association. Their home stadium is therefore named St. Mary's, having moved there from the Dell in 2001. St. Mary's is said (not sure on the accuracy of this due to the source) to be the biggest stadium in the South East outside of London.
  8. As the image says, kick of is 3pm (GMT) at the Brentford Community Stadium. To help our international friends here is the ever useful graphic to let you know the KO time wherever you are. Rays Funds for the CSF with the PUPs Season 15 Week 13 can be found here so there is no excuse not to get involved with a good cause by having some fun with @nutty nigel. Pink'Un match presser report can be found HERE. The BBC pre match article can be found HERE. Injury and Absences summaries: Norwich: Joining long term absentee Byram on the injury list is Hanley who could be out for 2-3 weeks with an abductor injury. Zimmermann has had ankle surgery (I believe to be related to the tackle he recieved Vs West Ham two seasons ago now) so will be out for several weeks. Cantwell is still not considered ready to return. Kabak is struggling with glandular fever and is a doubt too. The good news is that Gibson has served his one match ban so is back into the fold. Having watched the U23's last night, Tomkinson was not involved, so I expect to see him on the bench providing cover, especially if Kabak is unavailable. Brentford: Ajer out for six weeks with a hamstring injury so joins Wissa and Baptiste on the side-lines. Mbeumo is believed to be in contention to start this week, stepping up his return from a hamstring injury that only saw him on the bench last time out. Fact finding: Brentford FC were founded in 1889. They played at Griffin Park, in the London Borough of Hounslow, from September 1904 to August 2020 when they moved to the new Brentford Community Stadium. Griffin Park was built on a former orchard which had belonged to Fuller's Brewery. Those of you familiar with Fuller's will know that their logo features a Griffin, which is where the name Griffin Park came from. The old ground was also said to be the only league ground to have a pub on every corner. Brentford have spent the majority of their time flitting between the third and fourth tiers of the English league system, though they have at times made it higher up the leagues, this tends to be relatively short lived. Their recent success has seen them sustain a run in the 2nd tier and promotion to the 1st tier for the first time since the 1946-47 season. Update - Starting Line Ups:
  9. This weeks game is a 2pm (GMT) Kick-off at home, Carrow Road, to Leeds Utd. As is part of our weekly routine please go support a good cause with @nutty nigel's Rays Funds for the CSF with the PUPs Season 15 Week 12. The Pink'Un presser report can be found here. The BBC lead up article can be found here. Injuries/Suspensions etc: Leeds - Bamford and Ayling out, Raphinha and Firpo look to be fit again and in contention. Norwich - Zimmermann out with ankle surgery, Gibson suspended after two yellows last week. Cantwell and Placheta training so could be in contention, Gilmore back after being ineligible against Chelsea. Something you may not know: Leeds Utd were founded in 1919. Prior to this Leeds had a football club called Leeds City founded in 1904. City were forcibly disbanded by the league in 1919 due to allegations of illegal payments to their players during WW1. Leeds Utd was formed in the same year and essentially took over the spot vacated by the former Leeds City reserve team in the Midland League. Strange to think that Leeds have had at least two moments of financial irregularity in their history, one at the end of the 1910's and the other in the early 2000's. In between the two they built themselves a reputation as a hard, physical team willing to kick and barge their way to victory. Todays side under Bielsa are arguably not as crude as that these days. I was wrong, they are still every bit as crude and dirty as ever! (h/t). Oh and just in case you thought I'd forgotten:
  10. Early Kick off for this one folks - 12:30 GMT at Stamford Bridge. It is being televised on BT Sport for those who have it or who have friends/family you can join or hijack their TV for. As is the norm, the pinkUn has it's presser report and a few separate pieces focusing on some of the news from that on their front page. It sounds to me like poor old Zimmermann is still suffering from that horrific tackle he was on the end of playing West Ham two seasons ago. The BBC also have their pre-match sum up but you'll have to ignore "Lawro's Prediction" if you want to remain positive! For those of you wanting to get into a more positive frame of mind than our old friend Lawro, the club has put together a video of goals our boys in yellow and green have scored in the past. As is now part of our weekly routine of enjoyment you can also go and join in with Rays Funds for the CSF with the PUPs Season 15 Week 11 and help to raise money for a very, very good cause. Interesting little piece of knowledge - there are no football clubs located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Stamford Bridge is actually located in Fulham. Something fans of QPR and Fulham will often remind their Chelsea counterparts. EDIT: Possible piece of insight - apparently, last night, Tzolis switched himself into his own fantasy football team. The last time he did this was Vs Arsenal when he started. As you can imagine, some fans on social media have latched onto this. As a result, there is some belief that he might be starting today. Edit 2: Team
  11. For our international fans: (images taken from #ncfc's official facebook page) Pink'Un pre match presser with all the latest on injuries etc here. As always, also check out @nutty nigel's Rays Funds for the CSF with the PUPs thread.
  12. Kick-off 15:00 at Goodison Park. Couple of pre match reads; The BBC's piece and the Pinkun's pre match conference summary piece. For those that like to listen or watch, Talk Norwich City have a couple of youtube videos they have put up in the last couple of days in the build up to this game. One from Jack: And one from Chris looking at the opposition: Not everyone's cup of tea I know, so perhaps just some goals Vs Everton would be good, courtesy of the NCFC youtube channel. Nice to turn back the years for some good memories sometimes. Also, just in case you missed it, Nutty's CSF PUP's thread.
