  1. Mid -table success. Isn''t that what we have laughed at Ipswich for over the last 15 years? The odd season putting up half a challenge, the odd season closer to relegation, but fundamentally mired and stagnating in midtable, driving attendances down. The problem is once you get sucked into that routine, its hard to get out of, especially when the rest of the league is getting clogged up with more & more money. Even if we strike lucky with a gem from Germany, or the Academy, it wont be long until they are then sold, because thats what we will be relying on. Put like that it all sounds pretty bleak.
  2. @Bob... Money doesn''t guarantee success, I never said it does. But at the same time it obviously helps a lot. For example, we needed a striker & signed Srbeny, but had to sell Jerome. Other teams went out & signed strikers to add to what they already have. Its little things like that we cant compete with
  3. Money does rule in football. Its no surprise to see that the top 6 is made up of 5 teams that have been heavily invested in over the last 2/3 years. Its only Cardiff bucking the trend. This trend applies to virtually every league across Europe. Hopefully Millwall can sneak in to shake it up, but wouldn''t surprise me if it stayed as it is now
  4. ''all-purpose lone central strike who can hold the ball up, has pace, and scores goals'' Does that striker exist at this level anymore, and how much would you have to pay to buy one? A fully fit Assombalonga maybe? But even with his injury record he was 14mil. Chris Wood left Leeds for a similar amount. I guess the closest we had was Jerome, but he had obvious issue with goalscoring - would it have suited the team more if we kept Jerome and sold Oliveira?
  5. Kind of reminds me of the Glenn Roeder ''missed your tenure as England manager'' quote. Its a poor choice of words & its hardly likely to get fans back onside after what is turning into an awful season
  6. Can''t really get into the game. 14th v 15th. Just wished the season would end. Didn''t feel much when we scored, or when they equalized. Apparently Webber has said those that are bored with the football should go and support somebody else. If only life was that easy...
  7. Anybody else watching? Descended into a complete farce. Wolves 2-0 up, Costa clean through on goal is clearly brought down but nothing given. Suddenly Wolves are down to 9 men, of those about 5 are now on yellows including Ruddy who was booked for timewasting in the first half
  8. ''In his six years here he has made us a very competitive club in what is a very competitive league. No one looks forward to playing Ipswich.'' HA! Biggest load of BS I have ever heard...
  9. I think its more of a case we will want to sell instead of Maddison wanting to leave. Simply put £25mil is a massive amount for the club at the minute, the squad lacks depth in areas so that money can plug the gaps and buy quality players for the key areas. I guess we can also then shift other high earners for ''less'' money. However, if it is a Tottenham/Chelsea/Man City/Liverpool who come in for him we may be able to try and get him back on loan for the season. I think most of us would accept £25mil and another season of Maddison?
  10. The problem is that the ''promising youngster'' Matthews is actually 2 years OLDER than Gunn and is now 24 - surely if he is not ready now then when will he be ready?
  11. Also, if my fag packet maths are correct... 700 investors, £5million raised - thats an average of over £7000 per investment? Fair play to those people!
  12. Fair play to everybody that invested. I just hope that the club meets its on-field targets so we can actually afford to pay the investors back - I dread to think where it will leave us if we cant?
  13. 80p a pack?! It seemed to get really big again in 2014 for some reason and was good fun. But it was only 50p a pack then, or 6packs for £2.50 in Asda 80p is outrageous though
  14. Nick Powell and Will Grigg would certainly be worth looking at
  15. Never in a million years would he go to Huddersfield, as a fan I hope he would go to either Liverpool or Spurs as I think that’s where he would have the best chance of developing. Also, given his recent interview it doesn’t sound like he’s in a rush to leave, and may even stay - but do we need to sell to finance the rebuild of the squad? As for Gunn to Stoke - why would he leave to be no2 to Butland? Surely he needs to be playing every week in order to carry on developing?
  16. The GK shouldn’t have been sent off to be fair - I thought it’s no longer a red card if is a pen
  17. Murphy, Srbeny and Hernandez may well be our front 3 next year. It doesn’t sound great, but may as well give it a chance to get working now
  18. Srbeny good enough to start v Reading, yet not good enough to start v Barnsley?
  19. Didn’t Marcus Evans sell tickets to The Open a few years back, with hotels overlooking the 18th Green? It was the 18th Green of a completely different golf course, but the people buying tickets didn’t need to know that bit...
  20. Are we moving forwards? Well, statistically no. Less points lower league position, less goals etc. But it can be argued that to move forwards we first had to go backwards. We were never going to be able to build on the model we had - ageing squad full of high earners. To build we need money, which means selling some of your better players, so in the short term the quality of the squad decreases. This means you simply arent as good as other teams in this division. Its been hard to watch though, cant wait for the season to be over
  21. ''Also great for the promoted clubs to have a good chance of staying up'' Is that because they haven''t been afraid to ''give it a go''? Brighton & Huddersfield are new teams in the Prem, because of that everybody expected them to go down. Therefore they have had nothing to lose in terms of having a go and expressing themselves. Compare that to the 40point club who are that scared of relegation they play within themselves, scrapping for just a point, that they end forgetting to try & play football for fear of losing? Yeah it won''t happen every week for Huddersfield and Brighton, but at least they have showed little fear. A bit like us under Lambert?
