1.

if we play with two up front where does that leave wessi?
Are you the same "superzach" as the opening poster? If not, it''s an uncanny coincidence.
yup. forgot i had the first account and signed in with it at work. derp.

  2.
i think we should try him as one of 2 holding midfielders... (ok tin hat on).

I think with Hoolahan''s energy, and passing ability, and even though small, and a little light weight he will get a bit stuck in.

It would be an interesting experiment him starting the moves, and ok it could fail. But I think it has some merits.
i have often though what a difference it would make if hoops could play as the CM/AM next to the DM in a 4-4-2.  it will ever be however.
Ok im preparing to be shot down here and maybe its my reaction to another 90 minutes miserable football, i too like everyone else on this board was delighted when we were promoted back to the premiership. But at points last season the constant harping about money and staying in the prem for that reason started to niggle me, but this last few weeks ive seen some of the most dreadful games ive seen in a long time, if playing in this manner is required for staying up or setting out our stall in this manner then im not sure i want to watch it. After i watch Match of the day each week i always enjoy the championship, exciting, a bit gung ho and not about the money so much, maybe im just a bit down after watching that game today but it felt like we wouldnt score if we were there till midnight. Tin hat on ready to be shot at ( ping.ping )
Totally agree.

Perhaps Hughton should issue a statement of intent, something like...

If we stay up this season I promise to play 2 up front and try to win (not just avoid defeat). Also I promise to change the system when I see fit and not just play the same way every week in the hope we win occaisionally.
now that *is* wishful thinking

  4.
Was at the game and saw two very average teams cancel each other out for a very poor quality draw. Thing is if you read their team sheet prior to the game how many of those players wouldn''t you put in your team ahead of ours ? Berbatov, Dunn, Riiese, Sidwell, etc etc all assembled at significant cost and no doubt significant wages.

So at least our average side is a cheap average side !
I for one would swap BJ for Sidwell and Berbatov for our latest Leeds refuge.  Sigh...if only we could afford the wages.

  5. it might not be pretty but is it something we have to endure to reach PL status for next year? It''s dire, it''s boring and terribly frustrating, but if it secures our place in this league for next year, and the opportunity to buy better players during the summer, than I personally have accepted I will have to endure this sort of tension for the rest of the year.  CH approach is more sound than Lamberts, and has more longevity, but with the limited skills and quality of our players, will be rather dull for a while still.  We are only 11 draws from PL status for 2013-2014.  and it may well be 11 draws....

  6. a defensive approach is not just the number of strikers, of course we all know its the total mentality and approach.  its playing two DMs and keeping two rigid lines of 4 players.  but also have to admit its also a lack of quality from our players.  if a team like manyou or citeh played with our discipline we would be fine. part of our woes is the lack of individual quality.  how many players apart from hoops can keep possession of the ball?  apart from snodders and pilks can run past players?  pilks has put some awesome goals away, but for all robert''s play, his end product is woeful. as is elliott''s.  as is tetteys and johnsons''s passing.  i love all these players, but a game like today shows all of our weaknesses all to plainly.  i love NCFC but its so tough sometimes lol

  7.

Tactilly, Hughton''s a damn coward imo.
I wouldn''t say coward but the emphasis is rather on too conservative.  And frustrating.  How many arm-chair managers would make changes at 60 min like we do on FM or CM? seems obvious, so why doesn''t CH do it?
Because most people don''t know shit, and he is actually employed as a football manager?
exactly. no matter how much we are entitled to our opinions.

  9.
I really try, genuinely i do, but i cannot see the love-in for Tettey and the criticism aimed at Johnson.Just because Tettey has pace, and runs about, doesn''t make him a good midfielder. His passing is absolutely dreadful and although he does sometimes find his man he''s normally taken 7 touches to do so, and the player he passes to is under pressure. He done this to Martin several times today.I also don''t think his positional awareness nor tackling is at Johnsons level. Johnson appears to go missing for periods of a game, granted, but if you watch him his positioning at least makes more sense than Tetteys aimless wandering.I really liked Tettey when he first broke into the squad and he had a run of games where he was top class but i don''t think he''s performing anywhere near that. Johnson played a couple of good balls and put in some good tackles but he''s never going to be a box-to-box midfielder so to speak. If one of the two are to be dropped i would still make it Tettey. I''d personally like to see Fox given a decent opportunity but of course, just my opinion!
both have their strengths and obvious weaknesses. thing is we need only one of them and not both. we need a DM next to a CM or AM.  One person to break up play, the other to make the good pass or run towards the opponents. as has been said a million times on here, playing both is too defensive and therefore too negative. the balance is too much towards the defensive.  we are playing the italian way - playing to not lose rather than win.  we''re not stoke yet but its getting rather tedious.

  10.
Holt picked up a back injury on Sat morning.

Hope its nothing bad and just a reaction to Twitter comment. Those Pickfords boxes can be heavy. :-)
don''t you mean tire irons?holty was missed though.  200k + mr sulky seems a bit steep right now for mr becchio...

  11.
One point is better than one

A point a game will keep us up

We also stopped a rival team near us taking 3 points, instead they also take 1.

Not great, but we''re still doing better than teams below us
true true but we need so much more.  Where is the back of the net?  can someone please tell me?

  12. becchio was useless and very frustrating.  not impressed.  kai on the other hand looked great. and looks to have a real lionheart.  i was underwhelmed by his signing, but after 10 min I am thinking he might be the rabbit in the hat.  fingers crossed for some much needed magic.

  13. ''hoops is obviously central to our creative play, but i don''t wonder how much better we would be if he could play on the left or right wing.  one of our best players for retaining position (I am looking at you Elliott!) but we are so limited by him only being able to play in the hole. how much more effective would be be with a 4-4-2 type formation with two strikers up front being fed by hoops and snoders?all hypothetical of course....
