  1. No, I'm not for an election. As I have stated previously elections are to decide between potential governments with a set of interlocking policies - but as Brexit cuts across party lines, it must be decided by the voters on a single question basis.
  2. There is a palpable sense of fear in both the US and UK administrations today (I choose not to use the word governments as there is no governing going on on either side of the Atlantic) "Boris Johnson has said he will give MPs more time to debate his Brexit deal, but only if they agree to a 12 December general election" https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-50174402?ns_campaign=bbc_breaking&ns_linkname=news_central&ns_source=twitter&ns_mchannel=social It's only one poll, but nonetheless this tells you what is keeping Boris up at night.... unfortunately for him he can neither tell Parliament he will limit the number of days for debate, nor call a general election. Reduced to threatening to shut everything down as they don't want the facts to emerge.
  3. Every week we seem to be closer to the breaking point, but it is a very big country and ill-served by the media failing to explain the news behind the tabloid headlines. Just like the UK.... so UK politics is following exactly the same pattern of apparent tolerance of the lying and cheating.
  4. Meanwhile, there is a comment the President has made long the lines of 'I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters," ' hahah ... well in his appeal against a court ruling he has to hand over his taxes to New York State; his lawyer just argued he couldn't be arrested for that either... maybe Boris should lend them Charles and Camilla if they want a King again so badly. https://news.yahoo.com/appeals-court-set-hear-arguments-052204720.html
  5. This is also an illegal action if the Presidents tweets hav the same force as his Executive Orders: once more he is only the head of the US Government, the Government does not work for him. @realDonaldTrump Ā· 1h " It would be really great if the people within the Trump Administration, all well-meaning and good (I hope!), could stop hiring Never Trumpers, who are worse than the Do Nothing Democrats. Nothing good will ever come from them! "
  6. Meanwhile - Republicans have sent video a texts from the SCIF, which in itself is an illegal act, and Congressional privilege may not cover that issue. Quite a publicity stunt / distraction. " The House Sargent at Arms just walked into the SCIF... " https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/oct/23/chaos-erupts-as-republicans-barge-into-trump-impeachment-inquiry-hearing?CMP=twt_gu&utm_medium=&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1571856584
  7. Meanwhile - Republican lawmakers (an oxymoron unless it means cutting taxes) and other allies have taken the Presidents plea to defend over the Ukraine investigation him to new lows. https://www.politico.com/news/2019/10/23/impeachment-republicans-trump-055688 " Laura Cooperā€™s scheduled deposition has been upended by a group of House Republicans storming the hearing room, members say. Republicans took cellphones into the secure area, which is a huge violation. Weā€™re told the room will need a security sweep before the deposition can continue " Laura Cooper is Department of Defense expert on Russia / Ukraine. She is expected to back up the testimony from the Acting Ambassador to Ukraine. Do they want the testimony stopped ? The session is occurring in a Secure (SCIF) Facility, so a major breach of security by these guys barging in - there are already Republican lawmakers in the room as they are on the Committee. " Republicans tried to storm a Secure Classified Information Facility (SCIF) where TOP SECRET +++ information is stored & shared? ITS A TOP SECRET FACILITY RUN BY THE CIA/DOD & GUARDED BY TS/SCI CLEARED ARMED POLICE. This isnā€™t a joke anymore. Charge them with trespass. " This follows on the Republicans trying to censure Committee Chairman Adam Schiff on Monday - that predictably failed.
  8. Well Parliament is following itā€™s procedures, and I have thought and said that there is a majority for Brexit among MPS. If the ERG had voted for Mayā€™s deal it would have passed too - so the PMā€™s success, as it is, is uniting the Tories and ex-Tories around a bill they could have voted on before. He just stitched up NI to do it. Like the referendum almost half of the MPs against it of course so not a ā€œmandate majorityā€ at all yet. So now there is the process of reviewing what is actually in the deal and if the media were honest they would point that out, not push ā€œsilly billiesā€ stories about MPs canā€™t make up their minds. There canā€™t be GE until 2/3 of MPā€™s vote for it and there wonā€™t be one until Labour is satisfied the PM and his team have no opportunity to bounce the UK into an even harder Brexit.
  9. It only takes one loss in the playoffs, but yes very likely. Saints v Ravens for Super Bowl šŸ˜Ž
  10. Now, reporting of the testimony from a direct witness to Ukraine "quid pro quo" requirement. https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/diplomat-who-raised-alarm-about-withholding-aid-to-ukraine-testifies-in-impeachment-probe/2019/10/22/086fb850-f436-11e9-8cf0-4cc99f74d127_story.html " U.S. envoy says he was told release of Ukraine aid was contingent on public declaration to investigate Bidens, 2016 election" - Washington Post Tuesday Oct 22 2019 and https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/oct/22/us-ambassador-bill-taylor-ukraine-trump-military-aid-biden?utm_term=Autofeed&CMP=twt_gu&utm_medium=&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1571770429 " The acting US ambassador to Kyiv has told congressional committees conducting impeachment hearings that military aid to Ukraine was made conditional on its government investigating the presidentā€™s political opponents "
  11. Is this a case of "if you won't play by my rules, I'm taking the ball home!" So they just want to run the clock to minimize any scrutiny of the Bill before a 3rd Reading? " The leader of the Commons, Jacob Rees-Mogg, is on his feet setting out how the government intends to proceed. He tells MPs there will be a debate on the Queenā€™s Speech on Wednesday and Thursday and that the Commons will not sit on Friday. "
  12. Well Corbyn's position will depend on what he thinks is an acceptable alternative timeframe and economic analysis to being " bounced into debating a hugely significant piece of legislation in just two days with barely any notice and analysis of the economic impact of this bill " that's a very reasonable position - and the normal way any government and opposition run the country - Boris running off to Brussels and saying "give us one more week" is not. We still don't know what is in the "deal" as has been pointed out earlier.
  13. Labour once more being the adults - although the right wing owned press will say otherwise: " On Saturday, this House emphatically rejected the prime ministerā€™s deal. Tonight, the House has refused to be bounced into debating a hugely significant piece of legislation in just two days with barely any notice and analysis of the economic impact of this bill. The prime minister is the author of his own misfortune. So I make this offer to him tonight. Work with us, all of us to agree a reasonable timetable, and I suspect this House will vote to debate, scrutinise and, I hope, commend the detail of this bill. That would be the sensible way forward, and that is the offer I make on behalf of the opposition tonight "
  14. " POTUS would rather have a 24-hour news cycle with pundits criticizing (rightly so) his use of the word lynching than another 24 hours of the media discussing further testimony/evidence of how he manipulated foreign policy for his own political self-interest " Why the hysterical "Lynching " comments from the President and some of his Republican supporters? Ambassador Taylor testifying to Congress today .... one of the people on Ukraine text message string. It's been stated that all these other issues - emoluments, Syria, the "coup" and 'lynching" tweets are designed to be distractions from the core issue of the relegation of US national interests to his own.
  15. How about (with view to good communications) Tettey and Amadou both speak French, Godfrey does not Krul Aarons, Tettey, Godfrey, Lewis Leitner Amadou Buendia Vrancic Hernandez Pukki
  16. In case anyone is wondering how you get to a Second Reading without a vote on the First Reading : " The second reading is the first opportunity for MPs to debate the main principles of the Bill " https://www.parliament.uk/about/how/laws/passage-bill/commons/coms-commons-second-reading/
  17. I'm just thankful we don't have to support (or play for) the Jets... šŸ¤£ Sam Darnold's face last night was a picture - it all but screamed " can I just go back to USC?" " Darnold finished an abysmal 11 of 32 passing for 86 yards, with four interceptions and a passer rating of 3.6."
  18. He mandated that the US Government would spend millions of Dollars at his Doral resort, in June, in Florida, when bookings tank because no-one in their right mind wants to go there in the middle of Hurrican season. Even if he didn't "make a profit" - although nobody is allowed to verify his company books - Doral would not be reporting its normal loss it incurs in June with this extra business. So of course he's financially benefiting. Just like every time he golfs at one of his resorts the US Government has to spend our money there as well. Just like he "suggested" VP Pence stay at his Irish resort on the other side of Ireland when visiting Dublin. Just like he "suggested" US Air Force crews stay at his Scottish resort when flying between Europe and US. Today he's ranting about the "so called emoluments" clause of the Constitution. There is more to come out.
  19. Quite. He's the Chancellor of the Exchequer for goodness sake! In any business if the Finance Director said we don't have a cash flow projection he would be fired.... unless it was really a front for money laundering in which case who cares?
  20. That Bercow fellow has form on these matters. Iā€™m sure the Tory papers will explain all the reasons behind the decision tomorrow. Any news from the Scottish courts, or did they assume that the side letters were, in practice, meaningless?
  21. The phrase you should use is not "peanuts" it is "corrupt". Itā€™s such an obvious requirement that as a public office holder you do not award yourself a (no-bid too) contract ... and "I won't make a profit" is also no defense, awarding yourself the contract to avoid usual financial losses because your resort has very few bookings at that time of year is still a financial benefit. I canā€™t believe you think itā€™s OK.
  22. 9-0 final score and 0-0 at half time. What an exciting game that proved to be šŸ˜€ Still six wins and no losses and Seattle got thumped at home so all in all a good day for the 49ers.
  23. As MPā€™s just voted on Saturday not to give approval to Borisā€™s ā€œdealā€ until the necessary corresponding legislation has been put in place, they are not going to vote the opposite way to that this week, and the Speaker may not allow Boris to try for his meaningful vote either, as Parliament has already made up its mind on that matter. I agree the EU will want to see a specific political event and that could be a GE, although that could easily create the same kind of House unable to come to a majority decision, or it could be a 2nd Referendum to approve a Brexit deal or to reject Brexit in favour of status quo.
