  1. If that injury list is real then play three at the back, pin their right back and attack their left side at every opportunity. 3-0 win !!! OR ..... they have a hidden gem in their development squad, who even Coventry are only vaguely aware of, who comes in and slam-dunks us from midfield and we lose 4-3. Looking forward to it. Just love the uncertainty of football. OTBC
  2. Sounds like it, but hope it doesn't go that badly for Alex. Does Benny even have a club? - joined Hamilton in March until end of season but can't see him on the club website now. Shame, was hugely impressed the little I saw of him in our youth team.
  3. Lol, thanks Google, had missed that, then turned on after your post just in time to see him walking off 🤣 There's so much live football on tv now it's easy to miss games of interest like this. Maybe we could have a permanent thread where we can flag up fixtures to each other?
  4. But then again he did play for Ipswich !!!
  5. Good player in his prime as most would agree. He's had his problems, who of us haven't? So feel for him as he looks to play out a last hurrah and would likely reward whoever takes him on as he clearly really wants to play rather than let the clock run down on his career. Not here though for the many reasons listed above. MLS might fit the bill.
  6. I have no feelings either way towards his club but a Wolves mate regularly forecasts VAR 'mistakes' and gets it right so often I'm considering betting on it, that's how often they get done over against elite clubs, in the same way that we do. I believe the technology and numbers of camera angles are good enough now and do not account for the errors - we can all see where the problem is.
  7. Even by the standards of this century this week has been odd and today it smells like Rishi has thrown a dead cat on the table to cause uproar in his own party then go for an early election before they can ditch him. Nothing to do with the globe, or even the country. This is just crude politics.
  8. Going even further off topic (sorry Swindon), the first ever professional football match on a Sunday was on March 19, 1967 when Wisbech Town lost 2-1 at home to Dunstable Town in the Southern League Division One. 1,379 spectators were admitted by programme costing three shillings (presume the Fenmen weren't allowed to take gate money on a Sunday).
  9. Just Googled and was gobsmacked to find the world's first ever floodlit football match was at Bramall Lane on 14 October 1878 in front of more than 20,000 supporters between "Reds" and "Blues". The first competitive floodlit game was held at Mansfield Town's Field Mill ground and appears to have been in the same year. In modern times after a long ban on floodlit football seem to recall Wolves pioneered night football in the 1950s against European opposition and the first League game under lights seems to have been Portsmouth against Newcastle United in 1956.
  10. Thanks for that, had never heard the full jobby on that theme music and can sympathise KG, it brings back bitter-sweet memories of when a much-loved family member who never caught football, every bl**dy week would begin to chatter away as soon as the music came up at 5-o-clock in the belief that it marked the end of the business and refused to listen when told otherwise. Would go something like: "Football League Division One, Wolverhampton Wanderers What do you want for your tea? Bolton Wanderers nil; Huddersfield Tow I'm having cheese on toast would you like some? City 2; Are you listening? I said are you listening? United 6; Aston Villa 3 Or there's beans on crumpet if you like? ....... 60 next month, 2-0 up at home to Sunderland with 10 minutes to go, lost 3-2. Hooked😪 I expect we had egg and beans on toast for tea.
  11. I’d like to see Maddison start too. Good footballers, like singers, musicians, comedians, actors etc, although it’s a bonus, do not need to be ‘nice’ people off-stage as long as they deliver the goods on it, although granted, if they’re disruptive in the dressing room of a team game that can become an issue. But I know little about him beyond what comes up on this on this message board from time to time and as I’m unlikely to bump into him down the pub I’d just like to see a good, entertaining, game of football with the best available players fielded on both sides. And often a touch of arrogance is an important ingredient. Wish he still played for us.
  12. On Radio Norfolk the strip was described as akin to a red cabbage cut in half, which got me thinking in a five pints and counting sort of way. Lorca FC a recently defunct lower league Spanish club which used to be known as The Clockwork Broccoli, after the predominant local crop, at one time had shirts printed all over with images of that healthy vegetable (of the cabbage family, it is a particularly rich source of vitamins C and K). There could have been a potential back door way back into Europe involving the third strip, a sort of pre-season Cabbage Derby Friendly Cup. Could even do it properly and go there by coach. Not aware that Lorca have done a Bury and risen from the compost, but could be worth keeping an eye on.😄
  13. Not in Yarmouth and not been there since 1966 (Gerry and the Pacemakers – Ferry Cross the Mersey etc), so not qualified to talk about the town. But we had our house and the neighbouring semi re-roofed where we lived a while back by a proud Romany family. Paid a quality price for a quality job and HMRC got their cut too. The Dad was a perfect gentleman who also took care to show us exactly what materials were being used at each stage. All were friendly and very hard working. Every night they left the area around both properties scrupulously tidy and brushed down – “the outdoors is our front room, why would we leave it messed up?” was how it was explained to us. Two years later they were nearby and called round to check everything was ok. I know this may be an exceptional experience and plenty would have had the opposite sort of encounters. But then again not all Englishmen are nice.
  14. Alex Fletcher came on as an 85th-minute sub for Bath City in their 3-1 National League south home win over Hampton and Richmond Borough on Saturday, August 26, then was an unused sub in the 2-0 win at St Albans City on Bank Holiday Monday as he was again in Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Havant and Waterlooville. He’s back in football after a medical all-clear and following his fight for fitness. While the human response might be to hold a healthy fear for his well-being it’s worth remembering that it was his desire to play again which inspired him and he seems to be a realist who knows he has a way to go to get back to where he was. Can only wish the lad well. Health and happiness to you Alec.
  15. Ha, just noticed Rotherham are taking the hit with Simon reffing them at home to Leicester !!!!
  16. I see young Simon is back from his hols to be on VAR for Man C at Sheff U on Sunday :) And his mate Michael Salisbury is actually reffing Burnley-Villa after being fourth official at Old Trafford for Forest's visit. Well, they've done their time and should be allowed to return to their normal life :) Cue further carnage :)
  17. Overheard in a Scotch bar that someone got it from someone ITK that Gilmour's headed for Leeds as a loan with option to buy if they get promoted. No mention of price. Don't shoot the messenger.
  18. And Stuart reckoned he sent Daniel into battle without a gun!!! He was just a beginner at that mularkey. Plenty of weapons on the pitch and in the stands here.
