  1. When a Non-League club near me got second hand floodlights they kept blowing until the sparky noticed he had the wiring diagram upside down. Could it be our traynun diagram is upside down?

Disclaimer: This is a joke. Please don’t get angry. I know we’re in deep doo and this is a serious thread. Just looking to lighten up a miserable footballing new year.

Btw belated New Year greetings to all.

Had missed it - so thanks for that. Won't miss any follow-up though as I'll use the water direct debit showing on our bank statement as a  reminder to check for news of the warning being made public. Think it might be a long wait though.

Just a reminder from the end of the article:

Asked by the Guardian why the Goodall report and the full investigation it was part of had not been released under the 20-year rule, the CMA said: “As the statement is now over 20 years old, it has been reviewed by our records management team in line with the above process … however, there are a significant amount of documents which make up this matter which are yet to be reviewed. Further, the CMA, consistent with normal processes, will transfer these records with other records which have reached the 20-year mark and which have also been selected for transfer. This process will be completed over the course of this year.”

That was in May - genuine question, has anyone noticed any news of an outcome over the course of last year, or are the chaps now all too busy electioneering to get on their case?

Apologies if once again I just missed it.

I'd say none of them has been an unqualified success. Stacey looked very good indeed at the start of the season, but his recent performances have been average at best. He looks tired and in need of a rest IMO, and he needs to improve his crossing of the ball - there has been little end product in the last batch of games. Duffy looks good in the games that suit him - backs-to-the-wall, especially against aerial bombardments - but seriously lacking in skill when the onus is on us to attack packed defences. Barnes looked the perfect foil to Sargent for half-a-dozen games but has become a loose cannon of random, unfocused aggression who looks like a red card waiting to happen and whose sh1thousery has become a liability rather than an asset. Hwang has excellent individual moments, but otherwise disappears in games. Forshaw and Batth both look like completely unnecessary buys - what are they here for? Hiring Long is even more inexplicable, arguably costing us four or six points against Leeds and Watford, both games we might have hung on with an adequate keeper.

On the whole, I'd say poor recruitment, especially by/for(?) a head coach who says he wants to base his team on being fitter than the opposition. Collectively they don't seem to have improved our mentality or cured our tendency to fold when we go behind, and when I watch them I rarely think 'ah, that's what experience brings you!'.

Hard to disagree with any of that although my opinion comes with a plastic warning as for much of the season I have watched on the radio. But one thing which does occur to me is that Sargent and Barnes worked so well off each other early on that on his own comeback Barnes may have missed Sargent's presence more than any of us have allowed for, presuming that the less experienced guy's play would be the most damaged. Would be good to see them on the pitch together for plenty of minutes today to work that one out.

  4. For a while yesterday there were quite a few on both sides of the divide who thought this was all fake, a brilliant wind-up, such was the disbelief. This morphed into a concensus that workers for a subcontractors had done the deed. Gradually most have come round to a realisation that SAFC screwed up. You can kinda see where the thought process came from, but once the 'welcoming gesture' idea had been floated someone must have switched off the common sense filter. The pi**-taking on one side and anger on the other has been spectacular. It's definitely a good job that all 6,000 visiting fans are being bussed down from Tyneside and Northumbria Police will be praying there is no replay.

Yep, could be time to get the popcorn out. Plenty of subplots. For starters will there be a Captain Fishpants character? Will we see a wink? Have they been practicing cupping in the ruck? Etc.

Having said that I think I’ll clean out that drain out the back instead.

Ha, Fishpants – sometimes predictive text comes up with the goods.

Got that drain cleaned out, have I missed anything? ............... oh, I see. I used the rods, what did Leeds use.

Football fans are fickle creatures Dylan.

No patience, quick to create overrated heroes or scapegoats largely undeserved and all from a  perspective of infallibility and assuming that they themselves have the unique skills to of been (successful) football managers if only they could of been asked!

    We all live our fantasies!

I think we'll make the playoffs.

Speak for yourself, some of us are infallible. And my £20 bet in the summer on the automatics proves it 😀

Early kick off tomorrow and has the opportunity to further dent the binners' promotion hopes after we held them up last week. Should be worth a watch.......

  8. Can't remember who, but one of our Midlands-based members recently said some Villa supporters pointed out that, much as they love  him, their hot form has coincided with Emi’s absence. That prompted a mad thought about swapping Jonny for Emi in the summer (I know, wages, he wouldn’t step back down, cash adjustment needed etc. etc.), but last night killed that idea anyway, the well-oiled machine cried out for an Emi spark to break down the bus park. That said, he could just as well have been provoked into a red card 😀

First time I've seen Sheffield United this season. Persistent fouling doesn't begin to describe it.

    Spots, leopards, Wilder.

Found it a really compelling match though, but some of it went beyond panto villain territory into injury damage and although he needed eyes in his backside for the sneaky stuff maybe the ref could've had more help from his linesmen.

  10. Suspect I'm not alone in being blindsided by the next Prem round starting tonight - had just presumed it was Friday at the earliest. Epl Fantasy deadline for team selections is:

    Thu 21 Dec 18:30

The site will doubtless get slammed just before that and may be slow to respond, so best get in early if can.

  11. Thanks Dylan. This came under the radar for me, having been distracted by buying the sprouts. Was obvious the big boys would be back for more and expect that one way or another they'll eventually get their way, but didn't think it would be this quick. Hope the rest of football has contingency plans for various potential outcomes if the ruling goes against Eufa.
