The alternative would be to boot Hughton out, pay him and his staff a pile of cash (which could instead go on players), pay his replacement''s club a pile of cash (which could instead go on players), then expect the new man to build his squad on top of the remains of Lambert''s and Hughton''s players. Continuity seems a better idea.
