1. If we signed a 15 goal a season forward for £10m who had more than 1 season left reckon that would be a bargain. You have not allowed for the £6m we would get for Holt would be given to Hughton. With this and adding some of his budget he would have £10m to spend on a top forward. I reckon however he will be spending money on us not conceeding as many goals. A fact regularly missed is that Holt may have scored 15 goals but I beleive we only won 4 of the games he scored in. Getting £6m for Holt really puts us in the market if Hughton feels he needs for a top striker so if he has a 25 year old in mind you would have to think this is Houghtons team with no loyalties to Holt. If he does not want him at £6m reckon he would drive him to Wet Spam himself. Holt has been amazing for this club but if his sale means we can move to the next level with a £10m striker I am all for it. You would think that if he was single handedly good enough to keep a club like our s in the Premiership there would be a lot of chairman on the phone to McNally out bidding each other.
 2.

We should pay the money he wants to keep him as long as it''s reasonable. Short-term penny-pinching is crazy bearing in mind Premiership income and IMO has already cost us Lambert.
According to Holt''s agent, the club did agree to Holt''s requests, this whole situation is about more than that now though.
His requests have changed due to the club''s bullying attitude. They now have to pay him more because of that or lose him and probably suffer relegation. Suggestions that Rhodes could fill his place are ludicrous IMO.
So we offered him what he wants - he turned it down then wanted more and its us not him moving the goal posts mmm We are at last almost rid of our financial problems yet what you are saying is no one is capable of keeping us up other than Holt.
 3.
That''s one hundred percent correct OS, but there is one important (very) fact that must be taken into account when throwing up the examples of Leeds, Portsmouth, Hull etc., and that is the size of the prize. The Premiership pot has swollen by so much in recent seasons that there is perhaps more justification for the ''speculate to accumulate'' approach than there ever has been before, and by a country mile. I agree about the debt and the sensibleness of continuing with the present policy, but it is occuring to me more and more that this should now be adopted in a less rigid and more flexible way. If, for example, a bit of an un-characteristic ''splash'' is obviously needed by the New Year then I would want us to gamble.
We made an agreement with the banks so that we did not go into financial melt down. Should we not now keep to our agreement the banks would put us into administration and minus 10 points would follow. Would rather be in the championship with parachute payments than in the situation Rangers / Portsmouth / ect find themselves ie a club that no longer exists.
 4.
Apart from the Ram Man chance and Lescott''s goal we created nothing, so I doubt it. That being said, had Holt been on then pitch the I don''t think the ball would have kept coming back at the back 4 so quickly and we may have been able to have a bit more possession in their half.
In fairness to Welbeck his pass ratio was 92 %
 5. Dont shoot me down please but Villa fans seem absoloutely convinced Holt is signing this week. Cant find a link anywhere but I know a lot of people in Birmingham who all claim this was said by Lambert. Like I said cant find a link anywhere so probably nothing in it. Does make me laugh that they also aledge ( probably right ) they are signing Snodgrass. Makes me laugh as they are all raving over this yet they already have Delph who is better than Snodgrass but they booed him because they thought he was c**p.
 6.
Top notch post mate [Y]The Board have been superb but I feel that they are on the brink of making a mistake. Not with PL- as it''s in his nature to jump ship as he''s an ambitious guy and good luck to him- but with Holty.Yes he''s had his demands but why shouldnt he? He''s been immense for us, absolutely amazing. I would have given Holty the 3rd year. EVERY single time that Holty has been doubted he has proved his critics wrong.
Thought we did. He obviously thought that would not happen so had to try to put some spin on it. I suspect he agreed before Lambert went to follow him to Villa. The feelings amongst Villa fans is he will be signing this week. It concerns me that with other issues as well that Lambert is trying to make our club the laughing stock of English football. I am sure that the players and mr Hughton will show this is not the case in the most important place - The pitch
 7. Mmmm so all needs to be in place by 5/7/2012 even if McNally is playing games wont cost to much to keep them until Lambert has to appoint lol I have also picked up on something else designed not to give some of Lamberts antics away. It makes you beleive he has a house here ( did he own Dunston Hall ).
 8.
Cambridge - what do you mean about the way the club was being run? I have only caught snippets of the latest goings on and would appreciate any thing you could add.Ta.
It was said that the coaching and even some mentioned tatics, the picking of the team and the subs were done by Culverhouse. Lambert turned up twice a week once on Friday and then to tell everyone his team before a game. As I said this was only mentioned and maybe not be what happened in reallity. But if it did Lambert would have to find somebody he trusted 100 % if his style was to work. By the way that is also the way Martin O''Neill works.
 9. I would love to know if Lambert dumped Karsa and Culverhouse or if they dumped him. If they dumped him surely this means that part of Hughtons job will be to groom Culverhouse into becoming his successor in a few years time. Also if this is really the case Paul Lambert must be very concerned if the way we were told the club was run was true, I wonder if he also gave Villa a garuntee they would follow. If he dumped them he is far more ruthless than even I imagined. Or this could also have seen Villa saying if you want the job that bad you will be using what we have. Or maybe this is the McNally making Lambert sweat. I wonder if anyone has told Lerner yet that Lambert only does motivational speeches.
 10. And a manager that clearly wants to be here. Good luck Mr Hughton
 11.
So .. sacked jumped ship Good signs for the future
You sound just like us when Lambert moved from Colchester. Unfortunately for you there are lots of bigger clubs than Villa including the likes of Celtic and Dortmund. He will use you then s**t on you simples. Your fans will no way accept his signings because you think you are a big club. In case you havent noticed you have no chance of catching Man City Man Utd ect and in terms of money / buying power the likes of QPR, Southampton Reading and even Cardiff are far bigger than you. Just accept like us you are a mid table wont get in the Champions league club. Remember you guys booed Martin O''Neill who was replaced by a manager that cancelled the contracts of your youth players that got you to the FA youth cup final who was then replaced by a manager who almost took you down. Lets see how Bent reacts when he is told he has to train on his own for not pulling his weight. Lamberts ways are unproven on star players. Hope you like Snodgrass because he will be your first signing. Now please go away and let us celebrate the appointment of a top manager. Or maybe like most in Birmingham you are sitting at home because you are unemployed.
 12. Clearly a manager that is proud to be the Norwich Manager.
 13.
I read some of these bitter tinged posts and can almost smell tears of anger. Incredible Give it a rest now. He''s gone, you''ve got a new manager from arguably a team on par with yourselves (well 1 trophy less, don''t let them try and argue any different) and you need to look forwards Happy days all round
Have a look at the league 1 and Championship captains - one of them will be your first signing - now f**k off like a good little boy to your little dream world - given the chance you would have signed Hughton the real thing rather than the apprentice.
 14. Feel more positive about our club than I have for years. Shows how we have moved on everyone else struggling to appoint - we get the best first go and he couldnt wait to get here. IMO we now have a better ( premier league ) manager than we had before. He also of course gives us long term stability not just use our club.
 15.
Our aim is back in top 6 within 3 seasons and a cup run or two. Quietly confident No delusions of grandeur or CL here Small steps, no giant leaps expected
You live in the past Lambert has been employed ( which he will do ) to bring your club back out of the disarray it is in. Once he has gone ( within 2 years ) you will realise how tinpot your club is. The top 6 have real investors not virtual bankrupt americans that have made your club a laughing stock. Lambert left our club because he realised he was not capable of keeping us up next year. Now we have a real premier league manager. Enjoy the next 2 years they will fly by.
 16.
Ooo bitter! Don''t know why. I''m delighted, you should be happy with your choice too. I''d be a bit annoyed with your board and the shambles they''ve made of this though Lessons will be learned I''m sure
Lol I think you will find we have a better manager than you lol. You booed O''Neill out of your club and Lamberts league one signings will not be accepted by a group of supporters that think they are capable of winning the premiership. Think your investor lost most of his money did he not. Enjoy the next 2 years and then he will shaft you.
 17. Hughton and McNally just shown together at FCR. Get in - I now feel more positive than I did towards the end of Lamberts reign at least when Hughton speaks we can listen with confidence that he is not lieing. Chris Hughtons green and yellow army
 18. We are soon to have a better manager than villa so I will be chanting Hughtons name. I appreciate what he has done but until such time as I see evidence that he is not currently trying to shaft our club then I will view him with suspicion.
 19. OP - If what you are assuming does actually turn out to be correct surely it would be because the great Paul Lambert has simply shafted our club. He could say to Villa I dont think thats moral but in reallity he does not give a t**s about our club. Our board cant be blamed for some ruthless guy who does not bat an eyelid at who he stitches up or give a stuff about anyone other than himself. IMO opinion we have done really well out of this. We probably have a better manager and had Lambert chose to go at some other time the only people available to to take his position would probably have been has beens and certainly nowhere the calibure of our new manager. If you dont think he would stitch us up why do you think he mentioned Holts twitter. He took the p**s by making an approach in front of the nation and no one could do anything about it. Just like Lambert we could argue that we used him as a stepping stone - he did the job he was paid for and now we have an established premier league manager. Would you prefer the information that came from Lambert that was clearly not the truth but probably led our board into a false sense of security.
 20.
On second thought, we''ve decided to retain Wilbrahimovic?
Hes signing for Palace
 21. Has Tierney said he would never sign for Villa yet.
 22.

I reckon Lambert would fall over himself to get him in a Villa shirt.
I think if Vile come knocking our door we should tell them no players are going fo less than £29 mil. see how much they really have.
I agree.  I don''t think he''d be interested in many of our players.   Howson, Holt and possibly Ruddy (but would he displace Given?).  I don''t think he''d be interested in any of our defenders, Bennett probably a bit raw for a team aiming for top 6, and Pilkington well he didn''t play regularly under Lambert at Norwich.   People waiting to see where Whitbread will end up I guess.
I agree Ruddy would not replace Given but you feel Holt would replace Bent ? lol
 23.
OGS - I wish he''d of said yes!
I dont. Lambert was employed to take us ( as a league 1 manager ) from league 1 to the premiership. I will be eternily thankful for what he did. However it had got to the stage where our whole club was being knocked off track simply because Lambert would never commit to this club. Remember he always attracted the attention in case the next offer was better and never would say he was staying - until he did a couple of weeks ago and quite clearly that was not true.   He did his job and I can only assume that he did not have the confidence that he could better it next season. In fact I even woder if he thought he would struggle to keep us up. But we have now employed a manager that we can all be proud off and in the cold light of day based on where we are now is likely to be a better manager than the one we had. I bet Mr Hughton will be quite happy to sign a deal and commit himself to our club and his ambitions will be to take our club forward and not trying to further his own career at our expense.   Lambert to me has taken a fairly easy job, with the likes of Bent, Given, Obonglahor ect being fit he surely cannot fail to push Villa to the top half of the table. Of course however it wont be Villa that he wants this for it will be himself and just like Colchester fans with us now we will have a wry smile when in a couple of years time he says I have some issues and I am moving on, when what he really means is thanks for letting me use your club it has got me where I want to be whilst at the same time has helped your club move back to where it wants to be.
 24. If it wasn''t for the McCleish / Birmingham disaster I believe that Hughton would have been the Aston Villa manager by now. I reckon we have best deal, but I do hope fans remember his job next year before we kick on will be to keep us up.
