  1. Win today and we are no worse than either 11th and 2-3 behind manure, or alternatively in the giddy heights of 10th. Hughton, erm, IN!
  2. For me ''twas as the game at old Trafford unfolded last Tuesday. Everything just felt wrong - body language, effort, tactics. I had a long journey back north to ponder what I''ve seen under hughton and I have to say its not very enjoyable or effective. I have no doubt to give him the benefit of anymore
  3. Broadly the same as PC - felt the lack of appetite at old Trafford on tue was the point where I became an "out". However just not sure who we could bring in.....
  4. Celtic had a striker we were linked with - Derek riordan - who couldn''t get a game http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QYfT4bD3PSQ&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DQYfT4bD3PSQ
  5. I enjoyed myself last night in good banter we''re the left side, fat boy in the exec box, bring on the murph, 6 items for a tender, you''re even quieter than the emirates sort of way. But the quality of football and effort levels from the boys in yellow (ok white) were worrying. That was a decent away support under any circumstances let alone a Tuesday night away reserve game, and I think we were short changed. High ton stood there kinda like Maclaren without the brolly unable to influence anything. I don''t think he''s totally inept, just don''t think he''s the right guy to properly establish us in the prem, so lets make the change now
  6. Sorry to say that after watching last night''s no show, it seemed clear to me the players were playing well within themselves. From that I conclude all is not as it should be, From that I conclude Hughton is not the man to take us forward. I wouldn''t have minded last night so much if Man U had been blindingly good but they weren''t. It might "only" be a league cup game, but Man U pressed us all over the pitch and won by having more belief and putting in more effort. The ref, lino, snoddy injury don''t disguise that we were toothless. Hughton out.
  7. I am largely with sgncfc in terms of the latter stages, except that the first 35 minutes of the game we were so lethargic and lacking in pace it was scary. Bassong is nowhere near last year''s standards, while Hooper had zero influence at any point. So still a work in progress, with tettey fer and Olsen looking real positives.
  8. I watched the entire Scotland game last night. What was interesting is that he most definitely played the no 10 "in the hole" role, quite central and just behind Naismith the main striker. I''ve been concerned this season that he''s reduced to being a hard working but one trick pony out wide and other teams have worked out that he''ll always cut inside onto his left foot. He obviously doesn''t have the killer passes that Wes can sometimes produce, but he gave their defence and midfield an uncomfortable time with his aggression and workrate, and also produced some lovely short quick passes around the box with that left foot. He scored a header that he probably shouldn''t have won, and was only denied a second by the keeper making a great save onto the post. I doubt Hughton will play him there, but it was an eyeopener. Cafu was not really tested by a poor Croatia side, but organised and led the back four all night - captain of the defence for sure. Whittaker was suspended. Scotland are slightly less pants than they have been, and I''m looking forward to being at the Emirates on Saturday, even though it means setting out at 5am
  9. I applied with 300 points (6 away 0 home in last 12 months) and really happy to have got a ticket. Not everyone can amass big numbers of points due to all sorts of circumstances - in my case distance. Given this will be my 40th away game since moving to the Scottish highlands from norwich a few years ago, I don''t think I deserve a ticket any less than others
  10. I used to really look forward to going to away games (Carrow Rd is just too much of a journey from where I live), and always justified the expense and time on the basis of it being a good day out. Trips last season to the likes of Stoke, Wigan and Newcastle were just depressing however, and I currently can''t muster up the same enthusiasm to take on the long trip from the north of Scotland to watch us not have even a shot at goal. This makes me feel more sad than angry, and I do hope things improve. I''d like Hughton to succeed, but at the moment he''s killing it as an attractive day out. I like to think I''m realistic about the level of entertainment on view, and the likelihood of winning much of the time, but the "constipated" description used by another poster just sums it up. Even Grant and Roeder attempted to go forward away from home.
  11. Jeez and here''s me as a scot intending to wear my city top to the game and a show of support for the 3 norwich boys in the team
  12. I think with the existing defence we are hard to beat. With a little more firepower well wow. Feeling pretty hopeful!
  13. I think this one is going to happen. Exciting times!
  14. Hughton is at Celtic park today......wonder who he could be watching? You''d think Hooper but I suppose it could be Wanyama or even Forster
  15. I work in Glasgow - the Hun supporter view was that him and mcgregor (keeper) were the biggest losses. Certainly more so than Naismith to Everton or Davis to Southampton. He is prone to have the odd nightmare game but generally pretty solid. I was at Everton and I can confirm he was furious with himself after the goal, and I thought well fair enough at least he knew he had dropped a flanger. A good signing, reflecting the strongest squad I can remember
  16. I''m Scottish and proud to be so. I also loved living in Norfolk and was truly sorry to have to move on due to work. I''m also proud to support Norwich. I also loved the Olympics, and I can assure you all that the very full pub I was in, predominantly Scots, when the likes of Mo Farrah and Vicky Pendleton were winning golds was going absolutely bananas as they clinched their medals. I don''t see any conflict in any of that and, in my experience, it''s only a tiny, tiny fraction of sad people in Britain who genuinely dislike the english, the scots, the welsh or whatever.   Banter, on the other hand, exists at every turn and is what keeps most of us sane. Yeh I loved to wind up my english friends and workmates when the team failed at rugby, football or cricket, but knew I''d get it back with interest when Scotland achieved their latest epic fail. That''s got nothing to do with disliking the people I engaged in this banter with - arguably it proves the reverse.   The "Murray being anti-English" issue arose from precisely this - a journo taking some banter completely out of context, the unreported bit was that Lineker and Henman were asking him how Scotland would get on at the forthcoming world cup finals (in 2010 - when scotland as usual hadn''t qualified) and he retorted with a comment about supporting whoever england were up against. Banter, folks...   The only hole I can see in this argument is when I apply it to scum-related matters......
  17. I''m Scottish and I can''t even get interested! Levein''s 4-6-0 tactic in Prague in a vital qualifier for Euro 12 was the final straw for a lot of Scottish supporters, though the damage was started many years ago. However, I''ve been given a ticket for the Tuesday night game in Glasgow vs Macedonia, and I''ll go along purely to see Snoddy in action. I''d hoped Cafu would be playing as well (Whittaker clearly won''t) but it looks like he''s out injured. Thank god for Norwich - even being a reluctant Scotland fan is agony.
  18. In answer to an earlier query - I live in Scotland and still watch a lot of Scottish football on telly and follow the national team, and I''ve seen Webster since he was a youngster at Arbroath. I just choose to spend my money following Norwich nowadays even though it''s a bit of a journey even to the closest away games. Scottish football is corrupt and was rigged for years in favour of a particular team who have now gone down the toilet, and, hey, once a canary always a canary. Anyway, he was very good with Hearts some years ago, and got a few caps in that time before moving to Wigan in a very unusual manner when he bought out his own contract. He wasn''t a standout in a pretty poor Scotland team that was desperately short of options in central defence. A combination of bad moves and really serious injuries has meant he played little football until the last year or two, when he''s done quite well with Dundee Utd and then with Hearts again. However, doing quite well in Scottish football is like saying played ok for Huddersfield. I just don''t fancy him post injury problems against the calibre of forward in the EPL, sorry.
  19. Have to agree he''s no better than what we''ve already got. Looked very good a few years ago then spent a long time out injured, and has looked pretty average since. I''d have been mildly surprised if we went for him as a championship team - I''d rather play Barnett, and it would make a mockery of letting Zak go.
  20. Having been brought up not too far away from Parkhead, I can advise that the area around the ground is, shall we say, a little run down. If you want to experience a real, traditional Glasgow drinking den then fair enough, but..... From memory a First Group service 43, 61 or 62 from the centre of Glasgow is probably the easiest way to get to the ground, as there are no rail stations particularly close by, although it''s less than 2 miles from the city centre to the ground. As for pubs, there are plenty good ones in the middle of Glasgow around or close by to George Square. I wouldn''t normally go to a friendly, but this is too good a chance to miss (only a 60 mile journey from Perth). Me and the young lad will be in the Weatherspoons pub on George Square (Counting House - another ex bank) from about 4.15 onwards - shouldn''t be too hard to spot in our norwich tops. Hope everyone enjoys the trip.
  21. Under TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings - Protection of Employees regulations) the players, as employees, have the right to transfer to any new or successor employer (ie Sevco "Rangers") or to seek their own new employment, as the old business is now bust and unable to continue to honour their contracts. Zombie Rangers have a lot of footballing debts (ie money owed to other clubs for players they purchased) which they were unable to meet, so I for one have no sympathy that they can''t cash in after the event, even if this fails to benefit creditors. Either way, don''t see why Newco should benefit. Anyway, what''s important for Norwich is that Whittaker''s registration is swiftly concluded and second that we don''t have to eat into the transfer budget.
  22. Actually: Rangers are no more (in liquidation, at best a zombie club now) Sevco is the name of the new company (arguably not even a club yet), owned/fronted by Charles Green who claims that all players with zombie Rangers should TUPE across to Sevco. Virtually no employment lawyer agrees with him The SFA (Scottish Football Association) doesn''t want to upset Sevco, and has refused to clear the transfer - clearly passing the buck to FIFA, to whom Norwich (Whittaker), Everton (Naismith) and Stoke (Ness) must now contact to get the position ratified The way football is run in Scotland is corrupt, and the single biggest reason I still travel south several times a year to see the Canaries (and I did this during the League 1 days too). And I''m by no means the only active Scotland based supporter Finally, we have the SPL (CEO one Neil Donkeycaster), who is now one of the most hated/ridiculed men associated with Scottish football due to the way he''s completely ignored the views of virtually every non Zombie/Rangers/Sevco fan in Scotland. He''s probably a dead man walking now, but (and does this sound familiar) he has a winning combination of huge ego and limited brains, and hasn''t quite worked this out yet. I''ll be at Celtic Park on 24 July for the "party", as Celtic fans roll out the jelly and ice cream which has come to symbolise their glee at Rangers complete and utter demise. To get your heads around how seismic this is in Scotland, imagine a scenario where the league comprised of the two Manc clubs and the rest at L2 level, then one of the Manc clubs goes spectacularly bust but is voted straight back in, in a new form as though nothing had happened. Fans won''t stand for it - integrity over money!
  23. http://pfascotland.co.uk/2012/news/statement-on-issue-of-itcs-to-players/ PFA Scotland Solicitor Margaret Gribbon of Bridge Litigation has today written to all English Premier League and Championship Clubs responding to Charles Green’s letter to them dated 29th June 2012. Ms Gribbon stated “I have been furnished with a copy of Mr Green’s letter sent to English Clubs in their top two divisions and consider that it amounts to an attempt to deliberately misrepresent my clients position. I have therefore today sent a detailed letter to the Clubs setting out the facts and repeating our very firm legal view that Mr Green’s allegations of breach of contract are entirely without legal merit. My clients are free agents and I am pleased to note that several Premier League Clubs have already made applications to the SFA for International Transfer Certificates indicating that they attach little weight to Mr Green’s assertion that Sevco is entitled to seek damages for breach of contract” “Furthermore it should also be noted that the SFA has confirmed that in the event of there being a dispute over registration the matter will be referred to FIFA. We can confirm that the SFA has today rejected to issue the registration for one of our clients to an English Premier League Club. The Club in question disputes the rejection and will now write to FIFA seeking their intervention. We expect a speedy response from FIFA.”
  24. As a Scottish born, Scottish based supporter, can I just draw your attention to what is happening at Rangers as a result of dodgy owners over the last 25 years. Under Sir David Murray - who apparently had loadsa money but didn''t really - it''s been spectacular crash and burn without ever really having the impact on the European stage that his ego craved, followed by a panic sale to asset stripper Craig Whyte, followed by a further panic sale of the remaining assets to one Charles Green (ex Sheff Utd, but just a front man for who knows what shady characters). It''s all ended in tears and 50,000 bears may not have any sort of team to follow follow next season in any league. There''s still loads more to come out on this story, but it''s made me grateful for the stability and relative transparency at Norwich. On the upside it''s been hilarious to watch Donkeycaster becomingh even more out of his depth and inept than he was at Carra Rd, in his current (but maybe not for much longer) role as CEO of the Scottish Premier League. Someotimes it better the devil you know - the motives of anybody taking over a football club are not always clear, and not always aligned with what we fans would like or presume. Be careful what you wish for!
  25. Yeh - as someone else said, after the weekend for the first time I found myself really not caring that much about the results at the foot of the table. It was good to see WBA win in terms of cutting 5 teams adrift but I wasn''t that bothered. In contrast, we''ve hauled in 5 points over Liverpool in the last 8 games, and there''s no overwhelming reason why we can''t cut that gap further. Even allowing for bonus payments to players and management for a high league position, the extra few million will be a welcome addition to the summer transfer kitty. A spectacular collapse is always possible I suppose, but somehow you just don''t see Lambert letting it happen. 50 something points??
