1. On present form, one of the Murphys would do a better job than Redmond, me thinks, if they can be recalled (have not checked rules). Redderz looks very much out of form, and has been for quite some time.
2. Surely, with 2 away games in the space of 3 days, you would expect a few changes to the team against Bournemouth, who also had a day more rest, and who had their second home game on the trot? Dorrans, Mulumbu, Olsson, even Wisdom could perhaps be considered for this game, to bring in fresh legs. When AN did not do that, it can only mean one thing, they are not good enough, or are simply not rated by AN. And if they are not good enough to do a squad rotation job, how come they were recruited in the first place? Poor scouting? Panic buys? Injuries? I, for one, was happy with the team put out at Bournemouth, if their legs were up to it. In hindsight, they were not. Also, if AN planned to use Mbokani at Bournemouth, then it was strange Jerome did not start at Stoke. A few of these things puzzle me a bit, but then again, I am not the manager...
3. Klose, coming from the winter break in Germany, will probably not be ready right away. As seen from Kirchoff of Sunderland vs Spurs. Way off the pace.
4. Pretty sure Olsson will be recalled, and Brady moved forward. Jarvis benched. The real dilemma is who to play on the right. The entire right side needs an overhaul, due to loss of form, and poor players. VOO is not a right sided mid. He is an central attacking midfielder, and could play in the Wes role. Howson is not a right mid either, but we lack options when Redmond is so terribly off form. I guess, if Brady plays LM, then Redmond will start on RM, with Howson next to Tettey as DM, Wes behind Jerome. I hope Pinto is ready, as Martin should be shown the door soon. Not up to it at this level.
5.
Where as I don''t agree that a lack of running or effort has held us back this season yesterday it was an issue....... ..... it looks like you are just chasing a red herring in the hope of proving that you know more than everyone else.
So, you admit that you are not worried, or agree that Norwich have been held back this season, by the proven fact of being at the bottom of nearly all physical stats that matter in the Premier? Lowest on tackling made, lowest on miles run per match, lowest on number of sprints made per match. And you are saying this is not holding us back? You are ofcourse just as entitled to voive your opinion as I am, but in my book, overlooking such glaring stats is bordering on ignorance. As for me pretending to know more than anyone else in this forum, no, I don´t think I do. There are some very intelligent and good posters in here. But I do think I know more than a very large chunk of the posters in this forum. Without a doubt. As for stats being used to jump to conclusions, yes, stats can often be misleading, or, the interpretation of them can be. For instans, the running stats can be, and likely are, affected by AN´s sudden change of style after the Newcastle mauling. Adopting a more withdrawn style on the pitch makes for less running, but this is not so critical, as long as we keep the intensity up. Playing a deep, careful style is OK as long as the intensity is present. Withoyt intensity, it just gives a false impression if security. And we have fallen into that trap. After 22 games, almost 2/3 of the season, the stats will often be statistically significant. And I believe they are, at this moment in time. And for us, they are pretty damning in many aspects of the game. There is no coincidence we are were we are in the tables.
6. Not the brightest, are you, Squit? Wes had a lot of assists early this season. I dont remember how many, but guessing on 5 from Aug-Oct. Few, or none, thereafter. Thats my point.
7. Really? The signs have been there for a while. Even the wins vs Villa and Soton were not exactly top notch performances. We looked sluggish in both those games, but got results. In the Soton game, much due to Wanayama''s red card. Looks like the team needs a winter break in Dubai or something. Looked derived of energy/committment/determination in the last 3 weeks.
8.

If Afobe is a success at Bournemouth, it does not mean ge wiuld have been here. Simply because our midfield is one of the worst in the league in creating chances for strikers.
Wes is joint 7th. for assists
Wes has 6 assists. How many of those gave come after October? Form is absent, also from Wes
9.
Or perhaps somebody takes himself too seriously.
Head-in-the-sand. Not paying attention to glaring, alarming stats is just disillusional. It''s clear for nearly all to see.
10. If Afobe is a success at Bournemouth, it does not mean ge wiuld have been here. Simply because our midfield is one of the worst in the league in creating chances for strikers.
11. So the often so clueless Squit see no correlation whatsoever between our league-high of conceding late on, and our league-worst running and sprinting stats? Head-in-the-sand is probable a very good metaphor
12. 4 points off? Yes, before Swansea play Watford on Monday. The way this week has gone, you just know that Swansea will win that one, leaving us just 2 points off, with Liverpool and Tottenham next. Nothing wrong with looking a bot ahead, is it? On a positive note, Everton, now finding form, are playing Swansea and Newcastle in their next 2 games, both at home...
13. We actually top stats for conceding late goals as well. Another thing that point towards lack of fitness (or concentration)...
14.
Burnley had plenty of effort too. Just not the quality. We have quality imo, so according to this thread, all we need is effort.
Thats a wrong view, and you know it. Quality alone is not enough, you need effort. And vice versa. But effort is a leveller, for teams lacking quality. Often seen in cups, where superior teams lose to lesser teams, often through lack of effort.
15.
All very interesting, however, at the time of writing, we have a similar league record to Bournemouth. The breakthrough will be when there is a direct correlation between kilometres ran and points on the board.......
If you want that, you need to make adjustments for the quality of the players. Kilometres run is just a leveller for lesser teams to better compete with teams with superior players. Without effort, you are eaten alive in this division. With effort, you will at least have a better chance of surviving.
16. Fairly sure you knew it was a metaphor.... Point is, we don''t´ have players with a bit of nastiness in them. Guys that can bring a bit of fire to the team. We only got the good guys. The soft ones. Not too happy with it.
17. I don''t thing Bournemouth is a better team than us. But they are better than us on the basics. They press better, run more, and got way more pace in their team than we do. But I don''t think they got much better ball players. What they are better at, than us, is team cohesion. Much better.
18.
Will you post the same analysis on the next game we win?
Why not. If I can get it. It is posted on Norwegian TV2 during recap of games, so I have to take a photo of them, and write them down here afterwards. If I am home and can see the program, I will post it.
19.
Easy if you have stacks of cash though, isn''t it?
Sure, but I think Bournemouth are quite good at identifying players they need to fit their style. And they should be applauded for that. I don´t think we have a settled style of play, and then identify players to suit the style. Thats a big mistake. Teams that know how they want to play will have a better chance of finding players that suit them. And team ethic is not purchased. It is created by players and management.
20. No reason to envy Bournemouth, but they sure seem to have a way better team ethic than we do, and I also think they have players more suited to the style they play, than we currently have. I am also pretty sure Bournemouth will finish above us come May. Teams like Bournemouth can excel when the pressure is off, so if/when they get a healthy gap to the relegation places, they can kick on. However, if Rudd managed to kick Afobe out of action for a few weeks, it can only help us...
21.
And you know I don''t agree with your concept overall Grefstad, but it was clear we didn''t work hard enough today.
I know very well, thank you. I don´t know how much evidence you need to admit I´m (bye and large) correct in my assessment of Norwich´ lack of "bite", but whenever I get my hold of these stats, I will post them. It may well be that we will stay up this season, even though we´re dead last in the stats for running, sprints, etc. After all, it is not an athletics contest. But it sure gives us a better chance if our players are not much worse than other teams for effort and graft, over time. For the time being, we are, and today it was very visible.
22. Some more Opta stats for you, brought by Sky Sports this evening: Norwich are still the only Premier League side yet to keep a clean sheet away from home this season. Norwich City have conceded a league-high 14 goals from crosses this season. So, we have conceded a league-high 14 goals from crosses this season. Says a lot about two things: 1. The inability to cut out a cross, as seen from Martin today, and way too often from Olson earlier. 2. When the crosses come in, we lack the height or decisiveness to clear the danger. As for no 2, it has improved a little with Bennett coming in. He brings much needed height. But our real problem is stopping the crosses. We have poor fullbacks. We all know that. And my previous claim that Olsson is the worst left back in the league may well hold up, even if it was said in rage, and not supported by stats (only my own impression of the guy). I don''t have stats showing form which side the crosses come from, but I think most have come from our left.
23.
I did not see a lot of on-pitch leadership today. From about 25 minutes the game was crying out for one of our players to try and lead by example. It didn''t happen.
And the reason is: we don''t have many leaders, if any. What we have is a team of relative nice guys. Guys which their mother-in-law loves. No tattoos, no earrings, no swearing, and no dirty tricks. Gary O´Neil could be the type, but for his stupidity at Stoke. And the captain should be a regular, someone playing week out, week in. Tettey, maybe, but he is also a rather silent player. He can tackle a bit, roughen a few feathers, etc, but is he inspiring? I don´t think so.
24. Making Martin captain was always a failure. Because he is not an inspiring figure. He does not lead by example. And he always has a mistake or two in him. And now, with Pinto arriving, he will probably face a spell out of the team. If so, a change of captain is needed. I also remember the fuss under Houghton, with team captain and club captain and all that. Nonsense all of it. As for Naismith being made captain. that could well be the case, next season. Not this.
25. Agreed, it is not a running contest, but the sprint stats are pretty damning too. It shows, or at least it can be interpreted as, determination. Only Howson had sprint stats that could bare to be compared with most of the Bournemouth mids. Also agreed, these stats is just for one game, but more worryingly, if these stats are accumulated for the season so far, you will see Norwich bottom of the pile, of all the 20 Premier teams. Both for sprints made and for total km run. That is worrying, and I am pretty sure AN has to alter his tactics due to these facts. I think AN knows our midfielder are not able to cover enough ground in a 4-4-2, and as such, we are playing with 2 def mids quite often, also against teams we really should attack more. Watford, Bournemouth, Stoke, Newcastle, etc springs to mind.
