Nelson speaks
ABC (A Basingstoke Canary) replied to ron obvious's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Very similar to Woy Hodgson standing up for Tamas when he whacked James Vaughan in the face in 2011(and should have been a pen). According to Woy "I've seen it, it's obviously accidental". Wonder why the FA didn't agree with him - they awarded Tamas a retrospective 3 game ban!! It's about time that managers had the testicular fortitude to stand up and call out their own players when they perform such horrific acts. As for Woy, ever since that incident I have never been able to respect him. -
Ricardo's report v Brentford
ABC (A Basingstoke Canary) replied to ricardo's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Thanks for the balanced report Ricardo. Keelan''sgrandad - standing near the halfway line in the South Stand and enduring the agony & ecstasy of the game against Palace - would I like to go through that again? Could I go through that again? To quote monsieur Alphonse of Allo Allo fame, I don''t know if my ''dicky ticker'' would survive - it was a cracker, but thinking about it now, still brings the odd palpitations!- 11 replies

Ricardo's report v Villa

Thanks Ricardo, an excellent synopsis. Sounds like Farke''s fledglings are showing that bit of resilience that they will need for the rest of the season.- 9 replies

We are in virgin territory - the rarified atmosphere of a positive goal difference! (I was going to mention this after the Forest game but didn''t want to tempt fate.) When was the last time that we''ve had a positive goal difference for so long or conversely, when was the last time we were not in negative GD for even longer?

Klose to go ?
ABC (A Basingstoke Canary) replied to CANARYKING's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I agree with LDC. Timm''s comments regarding Maddison, Ruddy and Bennett at Pride Park coming to support the "family" club, makes one think that there is more to life than just money in his view of the world. One only has to think of Hucks (as well as Tettey) to see the special "magic" that Norwich has for people who were unfortunate enough not to be born in the Fine City! -
Missing club info
ABC (A Basingstoke Canary) replied to ABC (A Basingstoke Canary)'s topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Thanks Pete, Pity the NCFC website is not as informative and up to date as you are........:-) -
What has happened to a lot of the info on the club''s website? Whether it be from number of goals scored by player, to the number of yellow cards each player has accumulated etc - it just looks very bland and sanitised. If it''s not on the official website, any ideas where one can find this? Maybe one for "PinkUn Pete"?

Farke's Fledglings
ABC (A Basingstoke Canary) replied to ABC (A Basingstoke Canary)'s topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Thanks to ALOS for ascertaining the nomenclature of the subject heading. Points raised by Curious Yellow: "Playing the young lads usually brings the best out of the senior players." and by Mike: "Brings more energy to the team and they are more hungry to impress... " are also very valid. The apparent reluctance in the past to introduce academy players must have been very disheartening to the youth squad, when all they could look forward to was being loaned out to another team in a lower division (Murphys apart). Now that they are being introduced in greater numbers should incentivise them even more. Now, when is Sean Raggett due back.....? -
Subject heading "borrowed" from Quest tonight - but interestingly our "aging" defence comprises: Max Aarons - 18 Jamal Lewis - 20 our "creaking" midfield has: Ben Godfrey - 20 Todd Cantwell - 20 Emi Buendia - 22 Louis Thompson - 24 leaving our "geriatric" forward line with: Carlton Morris - 23 Dennis Srbeny - 24 (However, completely out of context, Teemu Pukki is top scorer and is showing at the ripe old age of 28 is still relatively sprightly!)
-
I don''t know if this has been mentioned before, but all the EFL games are shown on Quest (as well as the Carabao Cup) - basically the same as was on channel 5. Saturday''s games are shown on Sat night and Sunday morning. Cheers

ABC (A Basingstoke Canary) replied to Keith Scott's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
CANARYKING wrote: "I''ve heard he has been suspended till Thursday. So that puts an end to starting on Sunday." 2 questions: 1) Any info on where you heard it from? 2) If true, when did you hear this - could it be that today is the "Thursday"? -
Cameron Jerome next ?
ABC (A Basingstoke Canary) replied to Midlands Yellow's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Fiery Zac - you say that Jerome is on high wages. How high? How much is he on compared to others the club have kept? Compared to the cost of a replacement, how much different do you think the weekly wage bill be - £20k, £30k even £40k? That would equate to between £1m - £2m for the year. Compare that to the cost of a replacement and getting him up to speed, the loss of an existing resource, and the potential number of points that we would be giving to one of our main competitors. It''s all well and good for the club to be honest with what they are doing, but shooting themselves in the foot is just plain stupid! -
Cameron Jerome next ?
ABC (A Basingstoke Canary) replied to Midlands Yellow's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I agree with Feedthewolf and a few others on this - including Highland Canary''s quote "What a fiasco. It is difficult to conceive of a more efficacious strategy towards relegation." However, I am surprised at Bethnal for his "Personally I''d sell him for £1m+." Having seen the game on Friday and listened to DF''s comments about him after the game - he most certainly does appear to fit into his strategy. -

What a goal from Oliveira - solo effort from halfway line. Interesting that Paddy Davitt reported it a minute before the "live feed" showed it -

Little surprise that they nobbled Jerome - he was a pain in their side - he was everywhere! Hope he is OK - these "friendlies" could turn out to be quite costly before the season starts. -
