  1. I''d go with the following - Ruddy Naughton  Whitbread  Ayala  Tierney Bennett  Fox  ?   Pilkington Holt    Jackson Subs  Steer, Martin, Drury, Surman, Vaughan, Wilbraham, Morison I didn''t see the game tonight but from what I have read I think we need a shake up. Fox needs to come in, we need some width and some pace alongside Holt. I don''t think there''s too much wrong with our defence. Ayala has done well up to tonight so I wouldn''t support any knee-jerk reaction to change the central defensive partnership. In any case I can''t see either Barnett or Ward being an improvement. I think Tierney should come back and Naughton switched to the right. The only puzzle I have is, who partners Fox in central midfield, as Johnson and Crofts don''t seem convincing or good enough at the moment. Its a shame Howson isn''t ready yet.
  2. I thought he and Martin had good games, but unfortunately Whitbread was caught ball watching for their first goal and was drawn in towards Adebayor when there were enough players to deal with him. If he had stayed with Bale he could have hopefully blocked the pass, but instead Bale had only Ruddy to beat and nobody marking him. I expected us to lose but I don''t think we were over-run. Yes they had 60% or more of the possession but they weren''t able to make the most of it, because of our resolute defending. Personally I''d have played 5 in midfield and one striker which would have given us more width. Hoolahan wasn''t his best and Crofts was relatively quiet, so for our next game I''d expect an improvement from them or I might switch things around. Surman could play in the Hoolahan role and bring Johnson in for Crofts. Start with Holt on his own up front and bring in one of our wingers.
  3. 4-1 to Man City. Our defence is too fragile and mistake prone, I can''t see us holding them. Even their 2nd team would give us a good game or beat us. I''m not looking forward to seeing what Silva does to our defenders. If we keep them down to 2 goals, I''ll be happy - remember what they did to Man U?
  4. Typical Warnock. when things don''t go for him, he has to have a good old moan. he says things like, ''we were the better side, we battered Norwich, we were unlucky, things didn''t go for us bla, bla, bla'' I wish he''d accept the fact that if you score less than your opponents, you are not going to win and you are not good enough. If you have the majority of possession you should win, if you don''t that''s your fault, so stop moaning ! I can''t stand him.
  5. I''m stunned. I saw him on Football Focus Saturday morning. He seemed fine and in good spirits. I find it hard to believe. A good manager who seemed to be doing very well with the Welsh team and by all accounts a great man. Gary Speed RIP
  6. He is a top top manager, with an excellent team alongside him. I love the way he handles his players and the media - superb! Compare him to Roeder and they are a million miles apart. The only very minor negative is I cannot always understand what he says.
  7. The team needs tweaking, that''s all and we need to sharpen up our defence. ie  stop passing back to the goalie when we can hoof it into touch or up into the oppositions half. Also defend better from low crosses into the 6 yard area. I wouldn''t make wholesale changes, but would give De Lait another chance instead of either Martin or Barnett and I would also give Bennett a rest.
  8. I''m worried about the pace of Arsenal and what they might do to us if we defend like we did against Aston Villa. Its time for a change at the back. Possibly bring back De Lait for Martin or Barnett. I just hope De Lait has learned his lesson and is able to cut out the costly mistakes. If he''s able to do that, he''ll be a great acquisition, if not it''s back to square one.
  9. I think we''ll just miss out on the points in this one. 2-1 to Villa I''m afraid. I expect Villa to finish just in the top half and will have too much experience for us. I hope I''m proved wrong.
  10. RUDDY, NAUGHTON, MARTIN, BARNETT, TIERNEY, BENNETT, JOHNSON, FOX, PILKINGTON, HOOLAHAN AND MORISON, apart from that Liverpool''s danger men for me are Suarez, Adam, Gerrard. Enrique is not bad either. If Carrol plays he might be a handfull but we should be able to cope. If we focus on what we are good at, we should cause them a few problems. That''s not to say it won''t be hard though. Lambert is a genius.
  11. After a great performance on Saturday against arguably the best team in the Premiership and one of the best in the Champions League, you wouldn''t be surprised to see us pick the same line-up for the next few games, injuries permitting. We created loads of chances and really worried Man U. If we had taken 2 of our chances who knows we could have beaten them. So what should PL do. Does he stick with the same team or change it around in hope that we can put away some of the chances we are creating? As far as I''m concerned, these players deserve another game or two. They will learn from the misses they have made and some are young enough, so you expect them to improve. Clearly this is an area they have to work on, as we can''t afford to carry on missing chances like this every week. If after a few more games it is still happening, we will have to try a plan B. With Vaughan out until at least Jan or Feb, we might have to dip into the transfer market, but who can we afford that will be better than we have got and who will be effective in the Premiership? Someone in the German league perhaps?
  12. agree with you alysha. Stick with the same line up as in the last 2 games. If things aren''t going well enough, we can always change things in the second half, ie bring on Jackson, Holt, Crofts or De Lait. I''m not expecting any great upset, but it is possible if we can stop them from scoring, which would be a major achievement.
  13. I''m very proud of our team after watching a terrific performance at Carrow Road last night. There were so many star players so it would be unfair to pick out a man of the match, but Barnett, Martin, Tierney, Fox, Johnson, Hoolahan and Morrison were outstanding. I thought we struggled for the first 15 minutes as Sunderland had most of the possession but couldn''t penetrate a solid Norwich defence. We gradually worked our way into the game with sheer hard work, epitomised by Hoolahans harrying and skill in midfield. Fox was finding his range with some brilliant passes to all areas of the pitch and Johnson was mopping up, intercepting and generally doing a great job in front of the back four. Barnett was a colossus at the back winning a great percentage of headers, along with Martin who was very assured. Tierney continues to impress me both defensively and in attack, very rarely missing a tackle whilst also putting in some great crosses. Both wingers had some great runs and crosses, but they play clever game aswell and are growing in confidence with each game. Ruddy 7, Naughton 7, Barnett 8, Martin 8, Tierney 8, Fox 7, Johnson 7, Hoolahan 8, Pilkington 7, Bennett 7, Morrison 7 Ruddy and Naughton could be marked down to 6''s for time wasting and receiving bookings which was disappointing and uneccessary. The final 15 minutes were extremely nerve-wracking as Sunderland put the pressure on and scored. We lost some of our composure and made one or two mistakes that nearly proved costly but luckily we held on as we deserved 3 points and were the better team for the majority of the game. A big shame Vaughan has picked up a suspected bad knee injury but hope it''s not as bad as it looked. Also Tierney picked up a knock but hope he will be OK. Two great worked goals from City - very satisfying !!!
  14. Do we change the back four again v Sunderland or give Barnett another chance? I presume Russell Martin will keep his place after a good game against Bolton. Since we''re playing at home will we adopt a different formation or stick to our successful one that worked well last weekend? I think we could play 4-1-3-2 with the following players .......... Ruddy Naughton, Martin, De Lait, Tierney Fox Bennett, Johnson, Hoolahan Morrison, Vaughan The selection dilema and formation would appear to be quite a difficult one, as we can''t really afford to lose to teams like Sunderland at home. However, PL is learning fast, so hopefully he''ll get it right. They say that luck evens out over the season, so perhaps we''ll get a penalty or two and stop giving them away - that has to stop.
  15. remember that ''genious'' of a player? I think he may be on trial at Sheffield United. WOW they must be desperate ! I don''t remember him doing anything of note with us, do any of you??
  16. I think we tend to be too narrow when we play the diamond, so I would go with this - RUDDY NAUGHTON DE LAIT BARNETT TIERNEY FOX BENNETT or PILKINGTON JOHNSON CROFTS HOOLAHAN HOLT in a 4-1-3-1-1 formation. Bring Jackson or Vaughan on in the second half for Hoolahan and revert to 4-4-2. If Holt is struggling bring Morrison on in his place.
  17. Extremely frustrating given that if we had scored from the penalty we''d have grabbed a point instead of nothing. As has been said by others, giving Tamas a 3 match ban does not help us at all particularly if WBA play our rivals. In fact you could say it helps our rivals. People are saying we didn''t deserve anything from the game as our attack was weak and our defence was poor, but I look at it another way. How many times do teams play poorly and yet manage to win or draw. We played well against Chelsea and Stoke but only came away from those 2 games with a point - again the referees let us down with poor decisions, which have cost us. Lets hope the decisions start to go our way for a change. We didn''t play badly v WBA, but we need to be more ruthless in front of goal and more decisive at the back. We will learn from this and hopefully the results will come.
  18. seat124  I remember that game v Man U when the fan fell through the roof after he was throwing debris at the fans spilling onto the pitch. He was eventually stretchered off in front of the main stand and fans charged at the stretcher knocking him off. I think the game ended in a 2-2 draw. The Man U fans didn''t like it and went mad, ripping the Barclay stand apart. I think it was in the days of Lou Macari and Martin Buchan. Can anyone else remember that game and who played??
  19. Its a shame he said this. I know this is nowhere near a priority but to be beaten 4-0 at home is not good no matter what team we put out and it could knock our confidence. I''m hoping the players get a roasting from PL and that spurs them into action at the weekend. Did any of our players come out of this game with any credit? It sounds like we may have a couple more injuries to contend with on top of this woeful performance. It''s a big shame after such a great display on Sunday.
  20. Let''s just see how they do. Put your trust in Lambert and stop slagging them off before they have kicked a ball. I think they will be OK but who knows. They are all desperate to play their part and do their best, so give them a chance. If Fox, Surman, Hoolahan and Crofts play, we have Johnson, Pilkington, Bennett, C Martin or Smith to bring on if we need to change things round. Naughton could even play left wing, so it seems we have enough options in midfield, but if we''re struggling in January I''m sure PL will bring someone in to make a difference.
  21. I forgot to include Surman ! He could start in place of Bennett and move Bennett to the bench in place of K Smith/C Martin.
  22. RUDDY MARTIN (if fit) DE LAIT BARNETT TIERNEY FOX BENNETT JOHNSON HOOLAHAN HOLT JACKSON Subs Rudd, Whitbread, Naughton, Crofts, Smith or C Martin, Pilkington, Morison Martin is a slight doubt, if he''s not fit Naughton will start. Likewise Crofts isn''t 100% so I''ve left him out. The only other possibility would be whether Whitbread plays instead of Barnett. However I''m only guessing and I could be totally wrong.
  23. When do the management team have to name the 25 and the under 21''s?
  24. I think Villa will be better than us. N''Zogbia will suit their style of play and i feel they''ll finish mid table or above.
  25. Very difficult to pick the midfield particularly, since they have all settled well and are playing good football. However I think I''d go with the same team as yours Ben apart from Jackson. I''d be tempted to play Morison instead. If Crofts is unfit, I''d play Bennett in his place.
