  1. As much as I agree that the Hughton regime certainly had a very detrimental impact on his career, I don''t think Becchio was a completely innocent party in how it all panned out for him.

Yes maybe he ought to have received a bit more game time, especially when he first arrived and was probably at his most confident. But there must be a reason why neither Hughton, nor Adams fancied him. Bad attitude, poor trainer perhaps? You have to earn the game time and can''t expect to just walk straight into a squad. Clearly he didn''t do enough to impress the management into giving him more of a chance.

The Warnock quote about him that has popped up on this board a few times perhaps went a little way in shedding some light on his personality and attitude, although anything Warnock says should be taken with a pinch of salt. We''ll never know the truth, but if Adams doesn''t think he''s good enough or a right fit for us in this league, despite his previous goalscoring exploits, then I have total faith in his judgement. Let''s see how he gets on at Rotherham after he gets fully up to speed . . .

  2. Don''t think they''re too similar to play together. think they both play the role very differently.

RvW is all about movement off the ball and getting himself into the right areas and pulling defenders all over the place to create space to be exploited. He a;so has excellent technique and is good at linking up the play and laying it off for the midfielders to come forward.

Hooper is a predator. Maybe not quite as good movement as RvW off the ball but he''s a powerhouse and has more of a physical presence despite not being particularly tall. He''d be looking to feed off of any knock on''s and lay-offs from RvW and will play on the shoulders of the last defender.

I can see why people might think the two are too similar to play together, but I think that given time to gel together and learn each other''s games, they could build up a really good understanding and a potentially lethal partnership. In the meantime though and whilst Hooper gets fully up to speed, we have Elmander who can fill in and play a good supporting role. I think we have some great options up top once everyone is fully fit. Just need the midfield to start creating a bit more and get some decent balls in for Ricky to really attack.

Sounds like West Ham are switching to other targets and may be moving away from Quagliarella if the reports of them only wanting an initial loan deal and Juve preferring a straight sale are correct. Still it goes on! Be interesting to see how much of an anti-climax it turns out to be come 2nd Sept. Yesterday''s game shows that we really need a player of his ilk in that shadow striker role.

  4. Olly, don''t stop posting just because some people on this board challenge your credibility or don''t believe what you have to say. If you''re genuine about the info that you provide then don''t be deterred. It''s always good to have some real insider info when it comes about.

I got slated and called a bullsh***er not so long ago when I posted some info about Steve Morison seeing as it came first hand from his dad who I still work with in london. No one believed me and no one put their hands up when I was proved right. That''s just the nature of the beast on these types of message boards. Just have to stick to your guns. I''ll take you on face value, even if it does come across a little strange a young teenager having connections to an Italian agent. Even my Italian connections are failing me on this particular transfer saga!

Not a great deal of info in the article to be honest, but for anyone that hasn''t seen this, Juventus have pretty much confirmed Quagliarella and Matri are being sold imminently. I know that these two being surplus to requirements has been pretty well documented with new boys Tevez and Llorente, as well as Giovinco and Vucinic being ahead of them in the pecking order. However I doubt that the club would confirm this and speak openly about it to the Italian press if deals for them weren''t almost sewn up.

  6. Had a dream last night that we beat Aston Villa 6-0 at Carrow Rd, with Quagliarella scoring 2 goals on his debut as a 2nd half sub. . .

Then it turned out that he was actually one of my Italian cousins and I spent the rest of the dream showing him around behind the scenes at the Club. Oh, and he had joined on a season long loan and I was trying to talk him into signing permanently! Strange eh?? Wouldn''t mind the first bit coming true though. The 2nd bit definitely isn''t, to my knowledge. Maybe I should double check with the old man though just to be on the safe side! ;-)

  7. Just to get this back on topic, according to the below link, Valencia are now possibly showing interest in signing Quagliarella. To sum it up, it says that having sold Soldado they now have money to play with and Quagliarella interests them and that he would likely be interested in them. Obviously just more speculation to add to the growing list. Hope we can get this deal done soon if it''s still on the cards!

  8. Don''t see how it''s an eye-catching wage for a 30 year old of his stature and ability. Sure it''s not the sort of wages we''ve been used to hearing about at this club but I doubt very much that the likes of RVW and Leroy Fer are on anything less than 30-35k per week at an absolute minimum. Unfortunately when we look at the quality of players that we''re now shopping for, the bar needs to be lifted accordingly. I''m certainly not advocating the club start shelling out silly money for players as I don''t want the club to potentially risk it''s new found financial stability whatsoever. I also think that 10-12m for him is probably pushing it a bit too much for my liking and I hope that figure isn''t accurate. But back to the wages, when you consider a lot of the senior players at Juve or other top clubs probably earn near to or more than 100k per week, then 40k a week isn''t such an extortionate amount for him to be asking for.

  9. The below is my post regarding Quagliarella that I wrote in a different thread, so for the benefit of this thread and those that didn''t see it or don''t know much about him, here it is. Apologies for the length of it . . .

I really don''t get the negativity from some surrounding Quagliarella.

He''s an outstanding player and a huge upgrade on Hoolahan if that is the role that he''s being earmarked for. Yes he''s 30, but still has at least another three years minimum of playing at the top level. His game isn''t based on pace otherwise I''d tend to agree that this probably wouldn''t be the smartest move for the long term.

Me being Italian I''ve seen a hell of a lot of Italian football in my time and know quite a lot about him. He was brought to Juve as a kind of replacement to Del Piero, to kind of take over the role during the latter''s decline. Granted he''s not in the same league as Del Piero, but his playing style is very similar. Unfortunately for him, Conte had other ideas and brought in Pirlo the following summer to become the main creative force of the team. Joined by the likes of Marchisio and Vidal in midfield, that calssic number 10 role has pretty much become redundant at Juve.

Anyone that''s watched Quagliarella play in more than a couple of games can see just what a talented player he is. He''s got fantastic technique, has a great strike rate for a classic number 10 (just look at the great Del Piero''s strike rate and compare them) and most importantly, he''s always been a grafter and works hard for the team. He''s not a big time charlie. During the 2010 World Cup, Italy was crying out for Quagliarella to be started because the team lacked imagination, creativity and any kind of spark. When he was introduced, the impact was clear for everyone to see and he also scored arguably the goal of the tournament against Slovakia.

Unfortunately for him, Juve have splashed the cash over the past two summers and no longer need him as he doesn''t fit in with their new direction, hence why he was consigned to more of an impact ''supersub'' role and has now become available. I think even at the rumoured 6/7 mill he''d be well worth the risk purely for the experience and creativity he''d bring to the team. He''d fit in to the work ethic and certainly doesn''t command big wages unlike many other players of his ilk. The only problem I could envisage is that he may not necessarily adapt to the English game, having spent his career playing in Italy. But then we could say that about any of our other foreign imports. If Hughton wants to continue with the 1 up top policy, then Quagliarella would be ideal to play in behind RVW.

Again, sorry to digress, but just thought I''d but my two pennies-worth in. I know some won''t agree, but that''s just my opinion on the matter.

  11. Doubt very much that it would be Becchio, that would mean all our strikers that we had during last season gone! That''s surely too big and too soon a change by anyone''s standards.

I think it would be between Fox, Butterfield or Ayala. Foxy was also the first name that popped up in my head. Think it would be good for him and he''d do well there.

  12. Some amazing work there Mason! Always enjoy looking at your mock ups, some superb designs in there!

I really like that black one with the green horizontal pinstripes, however I do think if the ERREA and AVIVA logos and lettering were white it would work better so as to not merge in with the green stripes in the design. That would defo get the thumbs up from me. :-)
