  1. I think the answer is in the story A local pilot onboard the vessel frantically gave orders, telling the crew to steer the rudder hard to port and drop anchor to keep it from drifting starboard. If they are using pilots to drive boats instead of planes they could get easily confused. There is no big steering wheel on a plane for starters
  2. By talking about a black community into which you have placed all black people you fall unto exactly the same trap as Stuart Webber. Racism won't disappear until you see a person as a unique individual and not as a member of some racial community over which you can patronise
  3. Don't forget, whether we like it or not, the club will have to put out something that Zoe is comfortable to support.
  4. This is the flip side to the racial identity politics coin. Here Weber is applying a characteristic to a whole group of people. In this case alluding to the narrative that young black men are all potential jailbirds It is of course a racist narrative as is the whole critical race theory movement and why we shouldn't fall for the inherent racism that runs through it. People should be seen as individuals.
  5. You're right. He should have said Champagne Socialist. That's socialism for others but not for me.
  6. I'm interested to know why you think women are getting more screwed than men. Previously, women retired on a pension a full five years before men and then went on to have a longer life expectancy and so a longer retirement courtesy of the State. Wouldn't a better description be an alignment with men, which is what many women clamour for? Also I don't know what you mean by 'disadvantaged in the workplace' . Most dangerous or physical jobs are done by men. Most workplace deaths and injuries happen to men. What disadvantages do you see women facing?
  7. Politicisation of the Courts. Bad move.
  8. Why do you say Trumpian when Biden has been President for nearly four years? Has Biden been that insignificant?
  9. You've triggered me now, Gunny. Wasn't there a club a while back whose fans were accused by an opposition director of chanting 'black' when they were actually singing 'fat'? People are gonna see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear.
  10. And save Starmer at the same time.
  11. Lol. UFOs were a thing before Elon was born so that might provide a time frame but we might be in the general area with Musky, who knows?
  12. You are not wrong with what you say but I really do wonder if PR will make a significant difference to the democratic system. I offer two pieces of evidence. Firstly, can we provide examples of countries with PR systems that run significantly better than our system in terms of competence, accountability and corruption, to name just 3 factors?? And are there countries using a PR system that are just as bad or worse than us at governing? Secondly, I think you are quite right in pointing out the infighting within parties is a big distraction from the process of governing and a PR system allows the extremes to peel away and form their own parties without losing the chance of being in power. This has to be a good thing in theory. In practice however, those smaller parties will still join a government coalition and the infighting will still continue albeit as a separate party in a coalition and not a wing of a major party. Won't we end up pretty much where we are now?
  13. Who benefits from the existence of UFOs? Answer that correctly and you will know what they are and where they come from.
  14. Pretty much agree with you Daz, but what on earth triggered the museum to make these nutty comments in the first place ?
  15. I think the source of this story is the Fitzwilliam Museum. The Telegraph on whom you have fixed your sights are merely the messenger
  16. Your knowledge of history is sorely lacking. 2.3 million African people were not kidnapped by white Britons. None were. The Africans were firstly enslaved by their fellow Africans and then SOLD to slave traders who then transported them to the American colonies and the Caribbean. As a result, we might expect that call for reparations by be equally aimed at those African tribes engaged in selling slaves to the traders. As it turns out there is a deafening silence on the subject. One only hopes this play might tell the full truth about slavery. Somehow, I suspect it will serve up the sort of nonsense narrative that Horsefly believes in.
  17. The threats are religious more than political.
  18. Jewish children in London are going to school without their school uniforms on. They are having to change into school uniform once they arrive because it is too dangerous for them to wear the uniform of their Jewish schools on the street. Not just Angela Rayner's children are targeted. Nothing to do with the Budget nor the Conservative party.
  19. Yours is the best answer. However, I'm going for Churchill, saved the world from fascism. Followed closely by Thatcher, saved Europe from communism.
  20. Without doubt it would have been very tough work down the mines and in the newly built factories but we have to remember people chose to leave the land and go to work in the cities, not because someone forced them, but because the pay was better than in agriculture. It still happens today in the developing world, people leaving the land to work in factories and higher incomes. In a few generations they are challenging the developed world - Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China all countries in progress. Interestingly, none of those countries are asking for reparations. Such demands only come from those with victim mindsets
  21. We never should have p'd off Martin O'Neil. Leicester's history would have been ours.
