He’s never going to win much in the air or do anyone for pace, but he didn’t deliver a lot when he had the ball at his feet either.

However, the xG model throws up something interesting. There is only one player in world football since xG records were kept who regularly exceeded the amount of goals the chances they had 'were expected' to score. That's Messi.
That's interesting, does the "chance" start from when the player first gets the ball? If he gets the ball in his own half, then at that point the xG is presumably miniscule, but if he then dribbles himself into a one on one it would be fairly high. Messi scores more of that type of goal than tap ins, so would that account for it?

If we're looking odds-on in January, maybe we should be looking to bring a couple in then with an eye to the next season. This might be time for a bit of ruthlessness with exits, as we probably have too many in-betweeners (like those you mention).

I think that's a but harsh - see his cracking ball for the last goal against Cov - but definitely would like to see him a bit more involved at the top end. No goals or assists since the last promotion season I think?

This was, however, the 3rd best completion % on the team- wonder if people can guess who had higher without looking it up?
Omo / Aarons?

Not sure if this is the case here, but one eye-catching mis-placed pass quite often equals "he gave the ball away all night"

Only 2 new players in the 11 (and 1 on the bench), so not sure that's should be a major factor. A couple in less familiar positions I suppose.

Yes having a DM would help that but I'd still expect to see midfielders doing more in terms of pressing and making life a little more difficult for the Bristol midfield, even if it isn't their natural game.
Agreed, and there seemed to be a number of instances where the ball broke in a 50:50 area and we were really slow to react.
Can't argue with the results obviously, but I hope Smith can actually get us playing to our potential.

Regardless of whether it was a foul or not (it was), we had fairly comfortable possession and fecked it up.

Slightly before my time, but I have a feeling Andy Townsend wasn't massively appreciated here?

I don't think he'll start both Sarge and Pukki, but it looks good to me (although probably not as a 4-4-2). Want to see Sara getting a start at some point, maybe this could be the chance.

Nope, just complete pause for the division. League 1 and below carry on as normal though.
Ridiculous to have it in Qatar for logistical reasons, before you even get into the human right abuses and dodgy bidding process, but there you go.

Missed that they'd got Colwill as well, now he does have a bright future.

The Championship season is paused for the world cup (same as the Prem I think), so it shouldn't be an issue.

As ever it's all a bit binary, either he's a world-class superstar or he'll end up in non-league. He's obviously got a lot of talent, but wasn't a good fit for us. Working under Potter at Brighton is just about the perfect move for him, so he needs to make the most of this opportunity.
I expect he'll probably be a mid level prem squad player for most of his career.

That was a really annoying one as it was a pretty straightforward pass to put Onel in, but it was on his right foot so he delayed. I like him, but he is a bit one footed and does sometimes slow things down at the wrong times.

He wasnt really that brilliant for Werder and the assumption seems to be because they were crap he didn't look amazing. But having watched him for a year now, he's not overly quick or tricky, strong or direct. He doesn't create an awful lot and generally (as we saw tonight in spades) when he does have the chance to do something he's less useful than Onel Hernandez. What is it exactly that makes us (the fans) think he's obviously got more levels to go to?
What if he's just Werders Lee Croft?
Seems hard to fathom how he was valued as a £30m-plus player only a couple of years ago (albeit via TransferMarkt which should probably be taken with a pinch of salt).

Maybe we should pick up his team-mate Victor Wanyama while we're there.

I was wondering whether that might be a viable option. Cantwell - Dowell - Rashica behind Pukki could be pretty tasty.

Block H would have been away fans for all games last season, so presumably no season ticket holder seats there? I'm in block J, so nice to have a buffer zone to the away fans!

We will dominate a lot of games but fail to provide a cutting edge, so will draw too many.
