  1. Was awfully quiet when we weren''t winning....now pops out to say hello!
  2. Or Klose was the vast improvement - who was already here and my point re Martin is only all the stronger in how easily we replaced him with two cheap untested players. As it happens I think Zimmo is a great addition - I have hoes franke has more to offer. But Martin would look poor in L1 these days so upgrade need not have been major My own feeling is we are a midtavle looking outfit now - we can’t seem to defend and attack together
  3. If this season taught us anything it is that the Russel Martin doubters can never be questioned again. The stats whenever he is out are just so much better than when he is in. I have no issues with him being a good back up and older head to guide the young- but he isn’t going to feature much. So we need a new skipper I say- andtim Klose would excel in the role Think it would be a good move
  4. We have shut up shop but it is limiting us at the other end- I guess if we were down we would need to take on midfielder away and stick two up front? But we do seem to be a few attackers short of solid options....next window we need a good striker for the system we play. Maybe two.
  5. Howson is a gifted footballer but, like many we finally sold on (and a few we still need to) he kinda knows it and feels he is a bit too good for this division. It makes him less driven than a player like Trybull- who has something to prove and is hungry to succeed. In a division of fine margins it makes a lot of difference. And it explains, I think, why Lamberts wannabes were so much better than the later has-beens. How I wish we could offload a certain overly expensive midfielder for this reason. What a joke that he is paid more than any of our current star performers. Add RM to that as well...
  6. He is desperately needed. I think the last few games have shown- beyond any doubt now- that Martin is totally beyond his sell by date as a credible defender at this level. Each time he is out of the team- the defence looks light years ahead of the spells when he is in. No nastiness there- he is a great club man but no longer up to the job. So i would argue the signing was astute- we have cover. The insanity was giving RM a new contract given that most of us could see his number was up two seasons ago. Indeed I wonder where we might have been if we had not played him last year. In the Prem is my honest opinion.
  7. Yes the elusive elixir- which Lambert discovered- was achieving both a strong attack and strong defence. I am cautiously optimistic, since the revival, we might just do it again.....confidence is worth a goal a game in football....though the pessimist in me slightly laments our current forward options. When we were promoted we had several who could start- now we seem to have Oliviera who guarantees goals. That is it.
  8. Everton totally screwed us over. His legs have gone - meaning he no longer is the explosive player he was. It has left us paying massively over the odds for a bang average player who offers nothing to change a game. Further proof that we always do better buying young and up and coming than ageing pros. A very, very expensive mistake
  9. Sorry I meant to start a post to gauge people’s opinions of where we will finish given a roller coaster start to the season, but it seems to have become a dull competition for who can be the most smug clapper “told you so” type. So if that is the game I think westy is winning. Bravo! Well done.
  10. So after a strange old start to the season. With some very low lights and some emerging high lights where do people now think the season will end? Once again we see that confidence is HUGE at this level. I am still not entirely convinced we have the balance between solid defence and cutting attack to mount a play off push. So I am going to say 11th Your thoughts?
  11. I will be honest; I didn''t think we had a hope today and the team proved me wrong. A massive result in the context of this season and credit it where it is due. Today was the day I believed in farke as a coach. I shouldn''t have been such a pessimist really- we always seem to do well against the top teams and struggle to deal with minnows!
  12. This season is a stinker so far. Lady Luck isn''t smiling on us at the moment- two best players out. Boo
  13. I think the next result is massive - biggest game for quite some time. Natives are getting restless and a lot are on the fence but in danger of falling off it... Best sheff Utd and the last result and early season will start to be forgotten and we move away from the wrong end of the table. Lose, especially by more than a goal, and suddenly confidence is gone and we are looking at an appalling start. A draw delays things by a week.
  14. Husband is rubbish. He will end up Playing lower divisions for the rest of his career- with or without us. Franke will return at some point. Probably after we get spanked next and Zimmerman is dropped and Klose has one of his injuries. Three at the back was dropped because we were being ripped to shreds.
  15. 8 points from 7 playing the weaker not stronger sides!! So we are, I fear, in relegation form unless we improve. Personally I think we will - we have too much talent to go down. But I do fear our best will want out come xmas- if that improvement doesn''t come soon. And when we also have to cut the costs again in the summer.... Eek
  16. Investment doesn''t guarantee success - it can be wasted But lack of investment does guarantee decline And there is the rub
  17. We are going backwards at a rate of knots. The board are a busted flush and struggling to compete with teams in a league we should be doing well with. We have been told to embrace change when we only needed a new CB and better manager from last season to remain a top club. Instead we sold talent and purchased, for peanuts, sub standard players. Being a fan doesnt mean refusing to criticise a club when it fails its fans.
  18. The problem is a team that looks less than able to do well in this league. And tactics that seem wrong fitted to the league. And a manager who is a rookie and doesnt understand the league. And a board who are no longer helping the club progress. Where are we to go from here? League 1 is a real possibility given what I have witnessed so far.
  19. And if we get whalloped by Sheff Utd Lakey?
  20. I know some people whose houses are ''a work in progress'' but because they have cheap tools and not enough skill- it will always end up a botch job. The OP is bang on. Given our income over recent seasons, our gate and fantastic away support, our unique geographic draw and our status as a side who recently came down- we are punching well beneath our weight. We have beaten only teams that will be bottom- and have never looked good all season. Because the players are a massive downgrade and the manager is another rookie. You can ALWAYS say- give it time, be realistic about where we are- all the excuses people give when failing in business and life. The successful have ambition and drive and dont settle for second best. We do- the board is tired and spent and dinosaurs in modern football terms belonging to a different era. It is a bit embarrassing watching smaller sides overtake us in terms of vision and investment. Now watch as the clappers turn on me and denounce me for being negative. because- wow- we kept a clean sheet against BURTON- who didn''t even try and score!!
  21. I always quite liked him. It was an era where we had many average players though / just like 2017
  22. Someone on another thread likened him to Clint Easton!! He has lots of technical ability but looks lightweight for the championship. A L1 standard player
  23. I hear You "feed the wolf" however.... ....will you be as measured and patient if we get ripped apart by the top teams in addition to struggling to beat the likes of Burton at home? I really do worry that we will be in big trouble if, at Christmas, we languish bottom half, our better players will want out and the board will need the cash. And then we will look very L1 indeed and could end up there
  24. Sadly I agree. I like Farke but he looks out of his depth and o feel that other managers would get an awful lot more out of the team. Not convinced we have the talent to play the desired tactic and we cannot seem to defend and attack but only one or the other. But in his defence we sold a lot of champ proven quality and made very cheap signings. I still feel some of our new players are naturally L1 or L2 standard as their transfer fee suggests. You can''t make a silk purse from a sows ear
